Okay so.. ive always had a passion for acting, but ive never went to any classes..only school plays.... the thing is i think of myself as a more witty, comical type of interpreter, is really hard for me to get serious..i think that might be exactly the reason why i was given this role, as to kind of challenge myself? but im finding it hard to tame.

For context im 17, this year i decided to try out musical threatre, surprisingly, this year's play is one i know very well, Heathers! when the auditions were announced, i expressed my interest on playing ram or kurt, but i was the only one approached specifically by the teachers and told that they really wanted me to do JD, so they straight up gave me the role even after auditioning.

Its a bit funny because JD is actually my least favourite character of the play, i know that to be good at threatre u gotta let yourself be a little cringe, but for jd i just cant take him seriously and its becoming an issue because we had practice last week and i just kept laughing and cringing at all the lines, i think this can be fixed with time, but my main problem is that, due to the way i percieve jd, i feel like im overexaggerating his body language and speech, as i present very smug and ''badass'' when im acting as him, a bit like the movie jd, but i cant really.. decypher or understand the musical's jd.. hes like serious but also chill? kind of monotone in a way(?

I guess what im asking for is general tips from people who have played him, aswell as tips from people with experience in musical threatre.. i love acting but to be honest im lacking a lot of info on how it works when doing a play..thank you!! i really hope this post is appropiate, i dont use reddit much either ):

I’m about to commission a friend to paint either bleach a shirt of the JD’s. First one is Simon Gordon then I’m going down the list. If yall have some good pictures of him or any of the other JD’s it’d be much appreciated!

I'd say during the duet parts of "Seventeen".

So I just searched up on Google who are the understudies for characters and it said for JD the understudies are Devon Lewis and Cade Ostermeyer which I don’t know if it’s true, but it also says that Sarah Al bazali covers, Heather Duke and Miss Flemming which I know is not true so it’s crazy

What are some props from the show that one could possible make at home just for fun?

wouldnt is be AMAZING for the original 2014 cast who created the roles to do a short stint off broadway before closing?? why haven’t they done this? the people in the cast are basically the same age as the barrett Ryan Jessica Elle Alice and the whole ensemble. I would pay triple to see this.

I originally saw Heather’s with Lorna and Casey and thought they were incredible, but Casey’s performance truly blew me away. I loved that he was funny and dark and just simply perfect for the role. Then Koohoo came along and absolutely slayed the role. I have now seen heathers 4 times. The last time I saw the performance was my favorite of all and I’m wondering what everyone who has seen Heathers with the previous casts thinks of the most recent cast. I obviously want to see it again because it’s the best, but there’s a part of me that’s unsure I should maybe leave it on my last high.

All of the actors and actresses on this show are exemplary and I know John and Isabella are as well - just trying to make this decision. Also I have already spent a lot of money on the show lol.
