Gorgeous Hike

This was on Friday the 14th. Dead mans Peak. Hot, but a little windy 💯 worth it. Enjoyed an MRE and Some ol smokey moonshine to round out this beautiful overnight hike, and when the sunrise 🌄 came I had fruit punch whiskey for Breakfast. Awesome 🏜️

Flock Cameras in the high desert

Many Flock cameras appear to have been installed in the high desert area over the past few months. I don't recall seeing any local public notices, news, or public comments about this. They seemed to have just quietly appeared. I don't follow city or county meetings so maybe I missed any public information on the decision to install these and that may be my own fault for not paying closer attention to our city and county governments. If anyone has further information on who approved the installation of these cameras, I would be interested. Most appear to be on public property.

Is this something the public really wants? My understanding is Flock has created a searchable database for law enforcement.(No search warrant needed) Do we want to be tracked everywhere we go? Do we trust our governments with this data? Do we trust government not to misuse this data? At least I can choose not to use Google or leave my phone at home, but there's no way to opt out of Flock tracking.

fall semester is almost about to start. looking forward to returning to school, been awhile since I last was at school.

would anyone like to hang out who also goes to VVC or stays near by there. Im currently undecided on a major but leaning toward social media marketing.

im 25 turning 26 next month, so would also like to make friends before hand to have a celebration 😅

Looking for honest feedback!

My husband and I are currently living down the hill (near Raging Waters) with our two young kids. We’re in a 2 bed, 1 bath renting for $1,750/mo. We're super grateful for the affordable rent right now, but we're outgrowing it fast and our 3-year goal is to buy our own home.

Realistically, buying down the hill just isn’t in the cards for our generation—the prices are out of control. We’ve been looking at moving up to the High Desert (Spring Valley Lake area) where we can actually afford a great 3-4 bedroom single-story with a yard for the kids.

He’s an operator, so we know he’s going to be driving regardless depending on where he’s working.

For those who have made the move up the hill with a young family:

• How is the transition for raising kids up there? (Community vibes, parks, schools, family life).

• For operators / trades members: How brutal is managing the Cajon Pass commute on a daily basis when you’re working down the hill? Is the trade-off of having a real home and yard worth the extra commute time?

• Anything you wish you knew before making the jump from down the hill?

Appreciate any insight, tips, or food for thought appreciated!

Stolen dog

Someone stole my neighbors dog from his backyard on the 15th if anybody knows anything please let me know. Or if it’s in the dog shelter please keep your eyes out. So his name is Milo and they have a daily routine where they let him go outside and play occasionally since he’s a house dog and in the span of 10 minutes he was gone and there’s no where he can get out from he’s a very small dog and doesn’t like to jump yet either.

Is the Vineyards neighborhood in Apple Valley safe?

I occasionally see houses for sale in that neighborhood and I like that it has sidewalks and I can definitely see my future kids playing outside without worrying about cars too much. But crime maps often show that area as not being that safe. Any input from those familiar with the area would be greatly appreciated!

Considering moving from Riverside to Lake LA

I have a buddy that lives in Lake LA and I just absolutely love it out there! As a city boy through and through, it is nice to get away from the city every once in a while for a more tranquil, community-oriented, mom-and-pop shop environment.

I understand that moving there means I’d have to travel far for work or find work in nearby Palmdale/Lancaster, but I don’t mind that—for now, until I finish school. I also understand that moving there means no McDonalds, no Ralphs, no Starbucks, etc., and that if I want to go to places like that, I’d have to travel to Palmdale/Lancaster for that. Again, I don’t mind that at all.

I look forwards to the responses, good or bad.

Edit: for what it’s worth, I’m not from Riverside originally I’m from Santa Ana, so when I say I’m from the city, I’m FROM the city lmao

Traffic lights/intersections

We never talk about it but what are the worst intersections/lights in the high desert?

I’ll go first:

  1. bear valley/Hesperia. the turn light gives you like 3 cars worth of time before yellow.

  2. bear valley going towards mall over I 15, gets stopped up and everyone gets stuck in intersection.

  3. Seneca and La Paz, confusing intersection.

what do you think?

Rural living

I just saw a rental listing.

>Rural Country horse property, 15 miles to shopping. well >water. 2 miles to bus stop for school.
>Unpaved Access road. Must have 4x4 Winter access.

I am really interested how is the living like this?
How do you interact with neighbors?
Do you carry?
Are you afraid if you leave the house that someone would break in?
Do your kids walk from the school bus home?
Do you drink well water?
