Is Folly Field safe?

I am a single 54 year old women and am considering buying a condo in the Folly Field area of Hilton Head and want to know if this area is considered safe. I vacationed in that area many years ago and it seemed safe and have been vacationing on the island in Forest Beach and Sea Pines for the last 10 years so am not as familiar with Folly Field anymore.

Hotel/pool day pass

Anyone know which resorts offer a day pass for their pool area? The pool at our condo is not very clean at all and we have two disappointed teens.

Multiple people shot at Coligny

Heard gun shots just before fireworks in the area started. Tons of cops swarmed in and I saw at least three ambulances leave the scene. Anyone else have more details?

Daufuskie Island Worth it??

I’m trying to plan a bachelor trip for me and my buddies for end of next may. I have been to Daufuskie Island a few times back in like 06-08 and it was a pretty cool experience ( my fam likes quiet places and fishing so this was perfect for us ). However, me and my buddies are quite into golfing now. I remember there being a few course on Daufuskie but have heard rumors of places there going bankrupt???? If anyone knows anything about the condition of this island these days, any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Why did Marley’s Shrimp Shack close?

It was so good! We went in 2021,22, and 23’ and we loved going there. I loved sitting at the inside bar and eating and watching the cook.

Why did they close? Any ideas? It was always very busy during lunch and dinner.

Same-Day Shibumi Shade Rental?

Literally here right now. Our townhouse came with one of those two-stick lean-to shades and today was frustrating, to say the least.

Looked into buying a Shibumi Shade, but $300+ on Amazon was a bit rough. Figured "surely someone has thought to buy a bunch and rent them out. Turns out I was right, but I'm having trouble finding a good/trustworthy place.

Google showed me two:

https://www.getawaygearrentals.com/ - tried calling the # on the website, it's some girl named Tam's voicemail. Texted with no answer.

https://www.travelingbaby.com/ - no phone number listed, loads of locations across the country, so seems like they sub-contract it out. However, the additional fees were outrageous. The listing clearly says $16.50/day, or $33 for two days, but then when I got to the cart, somehow it was $80?

Surely there's a locally-owned company that does this?

Can't bike to go parasailing, only allowed to drive.

Biked across the sland to get to Sea Pines to go to a booked parasailing reservation. Parasailing I paid for. Guess what? Bikes aren't allowed if you are not staying there. Im actually ok with that, maybe just gotta pay. Nope.... You can only get through in a car. Mind you, plenty of bike paths. Safe for bikes. I said I would pay for two full car passes, for our two bikes. Nope. Cars only (yes there are bike paths along the road). No where on the parasailing website does it say this. I'm not upset about that, im upset about the stupid rule. Even paying a car fee for two bikes is not allowed. Ridiculous. Honestly it's so stupid im never coming back to this island.

Edit: we were on regular bikes, not electric.

Hilton Head Island Golf

We are traveling to HHI in a few weeks to primarily golf. With the drought and heat this summer, how are the conditions of the courses on the island? Specifically Palmetto dunes and Sea Pines courses..

electric bike and trailer?

I see that some electric bikes (under 20mph) are allowed on paths and the beach. But what about a trailer? Is it possible to take a bike and trailer and ride down to the beach and out on it and setup a chair and umbrella?

Fruit stands/farm stands

Here visiting for the holiday. Are there any good local roadside fruit/farm stands to get some peaches and corn and whatever else we can source from a small local farm?

I’m keeping my eyes peeled on the roads, but haven’t seen one yet.

4th of July Fireworks Info

I've been to the island a dozen times but have never been there for 4th of July before. Any advice for fireworks? I see Harbour Town and Shelter Cove have them but assume it's absolutely crazy to get near them. Do people shoot off fireworks off the beach?

Authentic low country boil/seafood within an hour of HHI?

What are the best spots (assumedly off-island if need be) for true low country boil? Any small snacks / guy with modest accomodations near the water?

Curious if there's anything in the area that's a zero-frills kind of place, maybe you order at a counter, and pumps out the best seafood/boils?

Sheriff Dept fees per household and per hotel going forward

Apparently been debate about charging residents for the town using the county sheriff department services. Seems set that it's now approved and going to be about $167 per home, business pays based off square footage and hotels pay $81 per room. It is hard to disagree, only HHI the Sea Islands (Dataw, St. Helena, Fripp, Cat) and Okatie use the county services as Beaufort and Bluffton have dedicated forces. Coligny Beach super busy?

We stayed at the Beach House in late June last year and it was very calm and relaxing. We just finished up our week here and it was packed! Is there something going on this week or is this beach just more busy in June? I was just curious.

Anybody have info on the Mall At Shelter Cove?

I was recently in the SC area and noticed that the outdoor shopping center felt like a mall of some sort. After further investigation, I found that I was standing in what was once the Mall at Shelter Cove. I found out that this mall closed in 2013 but kept the Belk store still intact. The photo I took ( 1st photo) is what seems to be the old mall entrance (2nd photo) but just redone.

It’s just insane to see what time does to these places

Has anyone visited the mall before it closed? Does anyone have any photos? Do you think my photo of the Belk entrance matches the old mall entrance?

Windsor or villamare?

We have narrowed it down to these two places. Which is better for kids. Kids are really young (6, 3 and 4 months). Which condo has a better pool and close to beach? We prefer somewhere with lots of families so our kids have others to play with.

Visiting Hilton Head with an RV

Hello All,

I'm visiting the island for a few days on 4th of July weekend and will be staying at a closeby RV resort (Hilton Head National RV resort), which is unfortunately about 10 miles from the island. I don't have a separate car to visit the island, but still want to visit the beach. Is there any RV parking I can pay for without inconveniencing locals or parking illegally? Alternatively, some larger parking from where we can catch a bus or something similar? Thank you!
