Recommend a year?

I’m looking to buy a Hilux between 2010-2023, I would like petrol as we have lots of petrol tools on the farm. Do any years or spans of years stand out as the most robust/reliable? Thanks!

Pereira Colombia

🇨🇴💔 EN MEDIO DEL DESASTRE POR EL TERREMOTO EN COLOMBIA, UNA TOYOTA HILUX SALE DE LOS ESCOMBROS PRÁCTICAMENTE INTACTA. 🚙💪

$1,785 for a 10,000km Major Service on a 2025 Hilux — Normal?

Hi everyone,

I have a 2025 Toyota Hilux with only around 40,000km on it. I recently had it serviced in Sydney and the bill came to $1,785.

I was expecting a much lower cost, as my previous regular services have generally been around $300–$400.

Just trying to understand whether $1,785 is normal these days or unusually expensive.

Is labour usually charged separately for a major service? They charged me $900 just for labour.

Thanks!

Rear Tube Bumper?

Does anyone know where one can buy a rear tube bumper like the one I had on my 78 back in the day?

This was the moment I regretfully let my truck go, but my little brother (far right) was so inspired by it that he found an excellent 78 of his own fairly recently! We are looking for parts...

2025 Toyota Hilux with only 40000km — is $1,785 for a major service normal, or am I being overcharged? What are others paying? Sydney, Australia

2012 hilux horn not working

Hey guys the horn on my hilux isn’t working, any ideas?
I’ve checked the fuse all good. I’ve made sure the horn works when applying voltage, the horn works. I’ve heard it can be the clock spring but my horn doesn’t work when turning corners and my cruise control and buttons on the steering wheel are working normally which I’ve heard usually go when it’s the clock spring, thanks

Hiking boots

Hello,

Im going to new zealand for a month during the summer period, have never done hiking so i dont own any shoes for it i was wondering if someone could recommend a few pairs, preferable cheap or easily found second hand, or if anyone is selling theirs on depop etc. Im planning on going on a few runs including a range from 5-20km on top of every day hiking so what is a shoe I pack for both hiking and running.

My Hilux in its natural habitat.

I do maintenance work on radio stations in the austrian alps and the best part is that all the roads up there are not really roads. (2021 2.8L Invincible)

What’s your opinion?

I’ve got this ‘91 ln106 Hilux that I picked up overseas. Returned not too long ago and am considering shipping it home (CO). It’s mechanically sound, 3y engine, has 201km (~126k miles), 4x4 with manual locking hubs, 5-speed, crew cab, pristine interior (no cracks in dash/seats always covered from what I can tell), solid frame, minor exterior rust on one door, 50mm lift, had some beauty marks on the exterior but nothing too major..

I’ve got a ‘21 Ranger here that I love but would consider selling and driving this, or just get the ln here and sell it..

What do you think it’s worth state-side? What would you do?

If you think it’s worth bringing home, any suggestions on shipping from NZ?

Thanks all

Whining noise under acceleration.

Toyota 1KD FTV hilux has been making this whining noise that gets louder under acceleration. I suspect it’s the turbo but could also be a boost leak. Any thoughts?

TRC/VSC lights on and flashing

2012 Toyota Hilux SR, 3.0L 1KD-FTV manual.

Did the young and dumb mistake of playing in the mud at glasshouse mountains. First red battery light started coming on intermittently, then later stayed on along with the VSC/traction warning lights. This happened around the time I shifted from back into 2H to go home. The 4WD system itself seems to be mechanically disengaging properly — the green 4WD light goes out in 2H, I’ve driven at highway speed and done tight turns with no binding, noises or other signs that the front drivetrain is still engaged (also just jacked it up and front wheels don’t move.

I thoroughly cleaned the mud from underneath and around the engine bay, cleaned the alternator, ADD actuator/connector and front/rear wheel speed sensors with contact cleaner, and checked the visible wiring. After cleaning the alternator, the battery light disappeared and charging now looks normal: 13.1 V engine off, 14.1 V at idle and 13.8 V at idle with spotlights, demister, A/C, UHF and the dual-battery system in use.

The remaining issue is that the VSC/traction warning lights are still on (the traction control flashing). The car otherwise drives completely normally in 2H. Has anyone had a similar issue after mud/water exposure on an N70 Hilux? I’m thinking the next step is to scan, I’ve seen some people have this issue and it was just silt in the front diff actuator?

The previous owner tax is genuinely doing my head in (n70)

Spent my entire sunday morning under the ute just trying to drop the old bash plates to check some bushes. Why is it that every time I touch this thing I find it held together by stripped roofing screws and an alarming amount of structural silicone?

Swear the bloke who owned this before me was physically allergic to using proper hardware. took me two hours of swearing and a blowtorch just to get one side free. Half the threads are completely chewed out.

Ended up just lying in the dirt and ordering a complete new underbody kit and mounting hardware from road runner offroad on my phone cause I literally had to cut the old stuff off with an angle grinder.

does anyone else just automatically multiply the estimated time for a job by 4 when dealing with a used hilux? genuinely need a beer tbh
