Looking for people to chat about books with!
I am a 26(f) and I've recently discovered my love for horror fiction. I'm not sure why I love it so much, and find myself in the bookstore reading a blurb, and only becoming enthralled if the premise is morbid and creepy. I don't have too many friends as I feel really surrounded by superficial people that are disgusted by horror literature and film. Or they miss the nuance entirely and take everything at face value. Throughout my life I was mostly exposed to nonfiction due to seeing this as a more productive way of time. But then it transitioned into self-help books which have been really practical in some cases.. but also I became kind of tired of this "hijacking life" concept where I was taking in this info all the time.
Do you guys have any book recommendations? I like all things spooky and messed up - but I truly value each story and not in a compulsive way. I just want to honor each amazing story that engages the senses in a non heteronormative way. I'm also looking for friends to read books with.
Horror has restored so much joy into my life. Is that ironic? It started with movies, I'm not a big gore fan. I love a good thriller, legal suspense, and true crime. Eventually the narratives become tired in the same package: limited series, notable name, psycho MIL (boy mom), final girl, and female sacrifice. Horror fiction has brought a new lense and outlet for the stories that we need!
