opinions about horsegiirl?
opinions about Horsegirll? I love techno, I grew up in the rave party network traveling from one squat party, to a warehouse, to a taz, to berghain. At the same time, though I was conservative with my musical preferences, I opened myself a lot more to the avantgarde pop scene (Arca, NUXXE, Eatheater). I've randomly seen the project of Horsegirl, and I found it a bit weird not in a good way. I don't wanna arrive to conclusions based on my instincts, at the same time I don't really care about having a reason to dig in this figure success . What I want to know is : is the techno scene welcoming this kind of artists? Is the rave culture becoming a viral tiktok dance? (I would like to remind you photos weren't aloud in raves) what's in this artist of so obscenely attractive? - animal masks are worn since centuries in cults, rituals etc, she's not serving taste but it looks like child birthday party, but adult with better drugs and mainly she is using concept deeply rooted in a culture which isn't vaguely related to her. I'm not a purist, actually my music tendencies indeed confirm that I've a wide spectrum, and I'm definetly into mutation changes and development, with the awareness that the result might be also negative, but that's tasteless and uncospicuos. Deconstruction is not random damage, but precision. To deconstruct something, you need to understand its structure first. You need to know where the load-bearing parts are. Otherwise you are not “deconstructing,” you are just breaking furniture in a room you didn’t design. Very avant-garde, if the avant-garde were a toddler with access to Ableton. It takes a culture that had pressure, danger, anonymity, bodily transformation, social function, and underground intelligence, then translates it into something easier, cuter, more consumable. And once that version circulates widely, people start thinking that is the thing. That's damaging. It makes rave look like a theme, not a lived condition. The worst part is not even that it is silly. Silliness can be radical. Absurdity can be holy. Carnival can be violent and transformative. The problem is that this kind of silliness seems to remove the teeth. Animal masks in ritual can mean possession, death, becoming-other, sex, hunting, spirit, sacrifice, shame, anonymity, cosmic inversion. Here it becomes: **recognizable gimmick.**That is not mutation. That is domestication.
