Every morning at 9:06, I hear a blip sound from my iMac. It's not a calendar notification. I've never heard the sound any other time. I have no clue what it's for.
27 inch, 2019, Sequoia OS
Any thoughts?
Just grabbed all three of these out of some ladies garbage lol they’re model a1224 and a1225 and the tower is a pro a1289. Wondering what specific cords I will need to test them or if I should just resell them and what they might be worth to someone in a tested or untested state
What the hell could this be? For the past few days, my excellent Retina display (iMac 2023 M3) has had this strange spot in the upper-right-center area (roughly near the menu bar). It’s very small and doesn't look like anything I’d normally expect to see. It’s not quite a dead pixel, not quite a dead insect, and not quite a speck of dust—so what could it be? All I can say is that it might have happened during last week's heatwave, when I put the iMac under a heavy load for about half an hour. Moisture from condensation, or what?
Hi friends
I have iMac 2015 a1419 doesn’t turning on
After disassembled the display I found only led 1 and led 2 turned on and the fan is spinning but the iMac doesn’t work, where the problem is ? What should i check?
Thank you
I had changed my user account password to nothing now. But now when I start up the computer, at the login screen, I can't just hit "enter" because when I do it gives me that Forgotten Password and that apple iD hint.
It happens Everytime I leave the password part blank and hit enter.
Can anyone help me?
Hi everyone,
I want to replace my iMac 2017 and found a iMac m4 baseline settings for £950, second hand, and a Mac mini, £650 second hand. I need to use the computer for occasional video editing and working from home. The monitors for the Mac mini are really expensive. I need advice pls! What do you think?
I wanna get an iMac but I’m wondering how good they are for playing sims. I am also writing a thesis at the moment so I always have heaps of documents open etc. I have an older ultra gear monitor I can connect it to for helping with that.
With the gaming aspect I was wondering if there is much of a difference between the M4 models. The only game I reckon I’d play on there is sims. I have some CC in my game and a maybe like half the packs. I’m currently playing on an M2 MacBook Air and it runs fine but I want it to run perfect.
Is it also a good idea to perhaps just wait until the new iMac gets discussed? Idk
Got a brand new iMac for my work from home gig. I’m looking for the best quality wireless headset for my call center gig. We run “Gladly” for the call program but as top producer I need a better headset. My current Logitech model people keep saying I have this bad echo behind me at times. Other calls it isn’t an issue but I can’t be missing out on potential sales calls. Suggestions from the masses?
Hey gang! Been digging deep into this and wondering if anyone had any insight. Basically the title says it all. Apple was of no help. The took my comp and ran diagnostics on it for 2 weeks (pretty sure they just forgot about it) and said the Hard Drive has failed. So now instead of me actually doing the swap and replacing with a SSD; I just want to
Try and recover what I may not have backed up… So I’m going to open it up and remove the HD and I got an external dock station to try and mount the drive and gain access to whatever was on it… I know this is a 50/50 situation but does anyone have any success stories with this? From what I’ve gathered the SSD portion isn’t really going to have too many files on it so I just want to try and get what I can get basically and then chuck this thing into the fire etc. thank you so much in advance!
I saw another r/imac thread where folks had discovered this software, RetinaRelay, which was released, I believe, late May 2026
There is a free, 7-day trial, no credit card required and I have been trying it out since last Thursday.
Our 27" iMacs are all Intel Macs and so even the latest model, 2020, will not be able to update to macOS 27. I have read that OpenCore will also be unable to function once macOS 27 comes out.
I purchased an M5 MB Air and an Apple TB4 cable to connect the two Macs using the Air in clamshell mode to Mirror, not Extend the Air's screen. The results were just satisfactory, but the developer released a beta on Monday and now the results are superb. The only problem I am having is solving the problem of waking from sleep and reestablishing a connection.
I thought that perhaps a thread devoted to RetinaRelay might be useful as a way to exchange info on folks' experience with what seems to be the best way to keep using our old iMacs.
It is 2014 model, runs well with Ps cs3 app, perfect.
The internet uses ArticFox .
Very durable even now as well as iPhone and Samsung A series models.
How about current model ? Durable ? Thanks.
Apple's 2017 iMac press release says "The new 4K and 5K screens offer 500 nits of brightness, an increase of 43 percent on the previous model, as well as a 1200:1 contrast ratio. The displays also have 10-bit dithering, and are capable of supporting a billion colors."
I just color profiled my late 2015 5K model using an X-rite spectro and got:
490 nits, 1150:1 contrast, 100% sRGB, 88% Adbobe, 99.8% DCI-P3
Given manufacturing tolerances this is basically the same performance as newer models.
Also, macOS tells me I have 30-bit color (so 10 bit per channel).
Maybe some lucky 2015 owners got the higher performing panels, but Apple didn't announce it until they were confident every iMac sold would get those panels?
I was carrying my 2019 27" iMac and accidentally chipped the screen with a corner of the magic keyboard, it still works fine, its just super annoying since this machine was flawless otherwise.
looking for advice to revive my old iMac i still have as a spare for work while at home. i read in another forum about being able to boot it up via an external SSD and that would significantly increase it performance.
i recently reformatted it&there is some improvement in the lag but it still runs quite slow, other than that it works fine. was wondering if anyone has done so that can provide me with how to do it?
This is follow up from previous post https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/s/6tsdJFHPOR
So I purchased 2x displays during Amazon prime days in UK and Amazon messed up: instead of nano-texture they sent me standard glass for vesa the other box I haven’t opened yet. They said they don’t have nano-texture anymore so they will need few days to think what to do but in meantime they said it’s fine to test monitor.
So here it is for anyone who never had this 3 screens side by side - enjoy!
...About to buy two monitors for my 4 port iMac M4, what exactly does USB C DP Alternative mean, and would connecting this display MSI 27" Full HD 144Hz IPS AMD FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) 1ms USB-C Built-in Speaker Computer Monitor for both Work and Gaming PRO MP272 E14C - Newegg.com work natively with the two of the iMac USB C ports straight from the box?
