I converted the iPhone Duo into a PokéDex!

Hi all, I’m the developer. I’ve been building DexDuo, a fan-made Dex app designed around the iPhone Duo’s fold, and wanted to share it here first since you’re the people who’ll actually use the phone or are interested.

How it uses the Duo

  • Closed: the outer screen becomes the red lid, with the big blue lens drawn right around the real camera.
  • Unfold it: the Dex powers on across both halves, sprite screen on the left, keypad and description on the right, split exactly on the fold. A robot voice reads the entry and the blue lens flashes with it.
  • Fold it halfway: a data screen sweeps open with stats, abilities, moves, evolutions, type matchups and where to find it. Open it flat and you’re back to the keypad.

Other stuff

  • All 1,025 entries, in English and Spanish (voice included), and it works offline.
  • Track catches per game across 37 regional Dexes. Each completed Dex earns its own region trophy, with a little celebration.
  • Team builder with shared weaknesses, and a silhouette quiz (like the anime!)
  • Works on any iPhone too: tap the lid to open it, and turn sideways to see both halves.

Price: free. An optional one-time Plus unlock adds tracking, trophies, the team builder, case colors, extra voices and iCloud sync. No ads, no subscription, no tracking.

  1. Does the halfway fold for details feel natural, or would you rather have a different pose do something?

Scalper iPhone Duo

Please do not buy the iPhone duo at scalper prices. Just looked this one up. This person wants you to buy this 256gb model for a ~1000 more than what it cost and still has to ship to you.I hope people actually buy these intent to scalp and lose money.

Showcase: Twofold, classic games designed for iPhone Duo

Hi everyone! I'm a solo developer and I've built Twofold, a set of classic games for two people to play on iPhone Duo.

The fold does the work a cardboard screen does in a board game. Half-fold the Duo and the raised screen covers your board like the lid of a game box, while your side lies flat in front of you. When your turn is over, fold it shut. The outer screen tells the next player it's their turn, and their side stays covered when they open it until they tap Reveal. You never have to look away or cover the screen with your hand.

The games:

- Broadside: hide your fleet and sink your opponent's

- Who's Who: ask yes or no questions to find their secret person

- Liar's Dice: hide your dice, raise the bid and call their bluff (2 to 4 players)

- Codebreaker: hide a colour code and crack your opponent's in fewer guesses

- Fog of War: chess where you only see what your pieces can reach

- Chess and Four in a Row: lay the Duo flat between you

Every game also has a computer opponent on Easy, Medium or Hard, and it runs on any iPhone or iPad, where a Pass button stands in for the fold.

You can try every game once for free. After that it's US$1.99 to unlock a game or US$4.99 for all of them, including the games I add later. It's a one-time purchase, with no ads and no account.

It's on pre-order now and comes out on 23 October, the same day as the Duo. Crazy Eights is next, with more games for three and four players after that.

Is anybody worried about the performance and cooling of the iPhone Duo?

Looking at the phone, it looks pretty thin, has anybody who used a Fold 8 or something similar break down their experiences with foldable phone performance? I want to use this phone for video editing, gaming and heavy use, due to the massive display being far more suitable for me than a Pro Max.

Who else noticed where the usb-c is?

Disappointing that the usb-c is not on the magsafe-able display side, how would someone mount their magsafe ssd’s now? (specifically the open-form!)

Zipf’s Law?

I want to secure one Duo on release day, I don’t mind the storage nor the color, and was wondering which combo would be the safest bet.

So if I don’t have enough “insider information” I always follow Zipf’s Law. So 80% of the people will buy 20% of the options (256gb) the other 20% would buy the 80% of the options (512gb,1T,2T). Apple must know this and I imagine they produce more of the lower storage models (I would imagine this works in their favor too to sell more iCloud Storage subscriptions). So I think it would be quiet balanced out of the gate. However…

I would stay around 512GB-1T

256gb would sell out quick
2T would be low supply

Then as for colors, obviously it is not a hard rule but I am guessing woman would prefer the white one as opposed to the dark one, men I have found anecdotally that they prefer the dark one but wont mind a white one. Also I am willing to bet that most people/scalpers setting up the preorder and are willing to wake up early to do them, are men. Also many woman (anecdotally) prefer the 18pro’s camera anyway.

White model on 512-1T would be the safest bet in my opinion.

While the dark one in 256GB might be the hardest to get on release day.

Do you agree? Do you think there is something I might be missing?

I built a journal that opens like a book on iPhone Duo.

I'm building Everkept, a private journal for iPhone an, and I've spent the last few weeks getting it ready for the Duo.

Each day is a table: you put photos, a few words, a voice note or some handwriting on it, and it seals at midnight. Folded, the Duo shows today, like any iPhone. Open it and it becomes a book:

  • Today: the same date a year ago on the left, today on the right
  • Archive: the calendar on the right, and the day you tap opens whole on the left
  • Echoes: every year you kept this date, with the one in front open on the left
  • Ask: ask your journal a question, and the day it found opens on the left

The tabs and tools sit in the Duo's own bar on the right edge, so nothing ends up in the fold.

It's private: no account, no ads, no tracking. Your journal stays on your phone and in your own iCloud, and Ask runs on the device with Apple Intelligence.

The screenshots are from the iPhone Duo simulator. I'd love to hear what feels off, especially from anyone getting a Duo on launch day.

iPhone Duo Telephoto Lens

Since we know that the iPhone Duo won't be housing a telephoto lens, do you guys use an external zoom lens for the main camera? I owned iPhone 16 Pro Max previously and I can't live without the zoom lens. I really like the Reeflex Ultra Telephoto but they only work in iPhone 17/18 Pro and Pro Max for telephoto lens not for the main camera. Sandmarc's x6 and x10 seem blurry when some tech reviewers test it on YouTube. Sandmarc's telephoto lens and cases are already available for the Duo. Is there any zoom lens that you can recommend?
