What size DOT do you prefer

Kinda new to shooting matchs and one thing I’ve learned is i definitely like the option to be able to dim or brighten a dot but i hadn’t figured out if i like a 2 moa dot or up to a 6 moa dot. For those of you that have shot idpa for awile. What size dot have ya settled into after trying some. Just kind of curious if size matters much lol

Basic guide for 1st match?

Before I reinvent the wheel, can anyone link a great document or video to share with first time shooters before the match?

I’m thinking basic safety and IDPA rules, so they know where & when to handle guns, as well as the general process of shooting a stage & pasting.

Stage scenarios - have fun with it MDs and should there be any?

Mods - I am sharing this because it is IDPA adjacent and my intent is to inspire MDs who may be reading this to have more fun with stage briefs but also discuss whether it should continue to be a thing - my reasons are simple as to why I think it shouldn’t - match flow. If each scenario at a major is 30 seconds and the stage is count is 12 stages - that’s 6 minutes approximately - 3 in the morning rotation and 3 PM - it builds in a buffer to the schedule naturally if you kept the same rotation that could absorb some squad back up and prevent - to an extent - some of the risk of lunch getting cut short. My other argument is that the typical “ you were doing x and then a gang appeared and you have to execute an entire gang” type stuff doesn’t enhance competitor experience. In the earlier days of IDPA when MDs could force wacky non-shooting stuff that was fun - it served a purpose - now it doesn’t.

So the point of discussion is should stage scenarios be a thing?

On the other side - the PCSL concealment match with Hunter Constantine opted to include them and each one is hilarious. This - if you have to do it - I think is the way it should be done because it enhances competitor experience though costs time.

Here’s one from the match books as a sample - it’s worthy of the read because they are all funny.

“according to the ancient tradition before you shoot the targets someone must read you a story about why you are shooting the targets. This is that story. Solve the problem”

Finally got my Rival, what’s next?!

After waiting and watching, one finally posted in a buy/sell group and I picked it up this morning! Took it directly to the range and it shoots great (love that trigger)

I have an optic to throw on it, besides needing to give it a good cleaning (the seller wayyyyy over oiled it as you can see on the trigger), I need to add some things (my backup gun in the CO division). Would love any pointers/companies/links for:

- Magwell, I’m thinking aluminum? (he didn’t have the original anymore)

- Mag base pads that play nice with the magwell

- Mags! (Only came with 2)

- Mag release - this one protrudes in a way that it’s interfering with my grip

- Anything else I may not be thinking of

Edited to add/ask: I’ll be running 124g ammo through it, anything pinned to upgrade internally (springs, etc) or is stock fine for now?

Newer to guns, never owned a Canik, super excited to have this one, finally!

TIA!!

gear question - two piece belt setup

I have a 2 piece belt setup that i have for SHTF and for range days.

I did my first level 1 IDPA match a couple of weeks ago and they were cool with my belt during the match.

i’m signed up for another match coming up but haven’t had the chance to get a proper set up.

are clubs usually cool with letting newbies shoot their first couple matches with whatever set up they have? i want to shoot a couple more matches before i invest in a proper setup

i know there is an exception in the rules regarding LEO and active duty military, however
not sure if that applies to me since i’m a vet now.

Magazine stowed on magnet on belt during CoF

At a higher level match (3 or 4)

Stage is a standards stage, 3 targets, loaded to div capacity. CoF is 2 shots ea to head strong hand only, then 2 shots body weak hand only.

Obviously reload needed for most divisions.

Can the shooter unload a magazine with ammo still in it and stow on a magnet on their belt?

Does it matter if the magnet is in front (not concealed under garment) or in back/under garment?

And part b - does the answer change on a regular stage with an unloaded table start that has all loading devices on table?

Just curious.
