Another day, another IKEA Alex build - now with 4 displays and 0 debt
2 Alex drawer + Gladys countertop--> where to put monitor arm clamps?
Hi all, does it matter how I mount my monitor clamps? Is option 1 or 2 better & do you think ill need an extra support in the middle? I heard from a buddy that I don't need to add a middle support if the wood is solid wood and not particle board. Picture attached with measurements sry for bad mspaint.
The Perfect Desk v2.0
V2.0 - the functionality update (see last photo for old setup)
I learned many lessons with the cable management on V1, I used those to make v2.
Changes in order of importance:
-Added Second Monitor
-Added Quality Microphone & Boom Arm
-Relocated Speaker Puck Controller To Desk (Behind Coiled KB Cable)
-Utilized A Higher Quality Dual Monitor Arm (Huanuo)
-Used Longer Cables For Monitors, Enough Slack To Move
-Significantly Stronger Under Desk Cable Channel
-Lightbar Plugged Into Monitor USB Instead Of Routing Far
I'm a bit sad I couldn't find a way to hide the cables on the mic and monitor arms, without the mic and boom arm the main monitor has a really cool floating aesthetic too.
I'm definitely glad I installed the RGB strip with v1, it was totally worth it.
Note: I still have the headphones, only left them off the desk for photos

Alex Drawers, Furniture Risers, Saljan countertop.
This is the best my setup has ever looked thanks to the superb cable management harnessing the power of 3d printing, and the lovely ikea ALEX and SALJAN
Two retractable usb c cable reels of course, nothing I hate more than not having charging when I need it.
Used the 3d printed opengrid system on the back of one of my Alex drawers as there is space there anyway from the slightly larger width of the countertop,
absolutely hated my previous anfallare desk that was made of paper, finally I have a desk made of sawdust instead 😆
I drilled holes in the drawer and routed some cables through it, invisible unless you know where to look
IKEA lagkapten leg alternative
Hello all, I have the Alex drawers built and I am currently waiting on the lagkapten to be delivered. I’m not a fan of the middle leg. Would this slotted channel be a good alternative to prevent sag? Or has anyone else got suggestions on what to add instead of a middle leg?
TIA
Enbacken questions
Hi all! I’m planning to do the 98 inch ekbacken over 2 sets of alex drawers. Should I get one or two support legs for the center? I’m thinking I’ll do the Olov in the back of the desk — just not sure if I should double up with such a long table. Thank you!!
Saljan + alex
Im very pleased with it atm. Any ideas of stuff i can add?
Ekbacken desk idea
So I'm considering turning my old room into a home office, and part of it was that I wanted an L-shape desk. The original idea was to use my old 47" Lagkapten and buy another 55" one, and reuse my Alex drawer at the other end, but since I wanted a dual monitor set up and would need to clamp my monitor arm to my desk, I changed my mind about the Lagkaptens since they're honeycomb in the middle.
Now I'm considering using a 74" Ekbacken, Karlby, or Saljan countertop on top of my current Alex and a 2x4 Kallax turned longways on its side. Under the Alex was going to be some furniture legs so I can clean under it easier (my dog pees all over my stuff annoyingly) and under the butcher block was an Olov. I made a mockup of this in Sketchup; I know there's about a 1-inch difference between the butcher block and the Kallax but I can live with it.
My main concern is just the overall weight. Is the Olov leg going to be enough for the middle of the desk to bear weight and keep from sagging? Should I be worried at all about all of the weight on the Kallax and/or Alex drawer? If anyone else has a desk set up like this, I'd love to see it as well since this is my first time trying this coming from a 47" lagkapten/Alex desk.
1 year and a career change later
Upgrade day!
Maybe it’s more like expansion day?
Wanted/needed to generate more desk space so to IKEA is went.
Play on the left, work on the right, hobby in the middle.
Yes, the split level is intentional.
No, the sun pouring through the window won’t be a problem. Hardly ever working at this time of day.
Yes I need to trim the zip ties, but want the make sure everything is just right before I do.
Paint samples on the wall were the final choices. Probably painting near the end of the month.
SKÄLSTA VS TROTTEN
I’m really torn between these two and can’t decide which one to choose. Has anyone used either of them? I’d really appreciate any reviews or opinions!
