My first IMAX experience. Odyssey

I saw in IMAX 2d why is so that theatre did not satisfy my expectations. In india theatres are shitty even a premium format like imax is meh👎 , the flaws i found brightness was low ( the brightness i saw on my phone was not there) sharpness image seems out of focus they did not calibrated the projection system for a very long time guess, it was focus okaish

(Kaam chalaw) Not pixel perfect.(Apart from film has some focus issue itself).

Next what do you call screening/ fringing effect rainbow/RGB like effect on white subtitles.

Last on the upper left & right side of screen it seemed dust like appearance a fog like appearance. Plus two middle line at the center.

Sound was amazing btw it was too loud, bass 😘 in thunder scenes it feels like sky has burst open (ऐसा लगता छत फट गया)

Venue - IMAX Rajouri garden inox vishal mall.

I’ve watched The Odyssey in 5 different formats — here’s how I’d rank them

I’m A/V Geek, travel from Mumbai India to London UK to experience 5 different formats.
After watching The Odyssey in 5 different formats, I finally have a pretty good idea of how much the presentation changes the experience.
My ranking is based purely on my personal experience of picture, immersion, colour, dynamic range and sound — not simply on which format is technically “superior.”

🥇 1. IMAX 70mm (BFI IMAX) — the best overall experience
Immersion: 10/10
Picture: 10/10
Colour: 9.5/10
Dynamic range: 9.5/10
Sound: 8/10
This is still the king for me.
The 1.43:1 IMAX presentation completely changes the scale of the movie. The image fills so much more of your field of view that it genuinely feels like you’re inside the film rather than watching a gigantic screen.
The 15/70 film presentation has an incredible organic sharpness and texture. Colours look very natural and the image has that unmistakable large-format-film character.
My only criticism is the sound. It wasn’t bad at all, but compared with some of the premium digital systems I’ve experienced, I found the audio less impressive than the picture.
Overall: 10/10

🥈 2. Dolby Cinema — best digital presentation
Immersion: 8.5/10
Picture: 10/10
Colour: 10/10
Dynamic range: 10/10
Sound: 9.5/10
This was probably the most impressive digital presentation I’ve seen.
The contrast, blacks, highlights and colour volume are fantastic. Dark scenes in particular look incredible.
The main disadvantage is the framing. Depending on the Dolby auditorium, you’re watching the film in a flatter or wider presentation rather than the full 1.43:1 IMAX frame, so you don’t get the same vertical immersion as IMAX 70mm.
And one correction to something I’ve seen repeated online: The Odyssey does not have a native Dolby Atmos mix. Nolan’s theatrical soundtrack is based around a 5.1 mix, even when the film is presented in a Dolby Cinema auditorium.
So for me, Dolby wins on digital picture quality, not because it has an Atmos mix.
Overall: 9.5/10

🥉 3. Standard 35mm film (Barbican)
Immersion: 8/10
Picture: 8/10
Colour: 8/10
Dynamic range: 7.5/10
Sound: 8/10
Still a great experience, but once you’ve seen the full 1.43:1 IMAX 70mm presentation, the difference is obvious.
The wider framing makes the movie feel less enormous and you lose that incredible vertical IMAX composition.
It’s still film, and there’s something special about seeing The Odyssey projected from a physical film print, but for this particular movie I think the format sacrifices too much of what makes the IMAX presentation special.
Overall: 8/10

4. Vue EPIC — surprisingly beautiful
Immersion: 8/10
Picture: 9/10
Colour: 9.5/10
Dynamic range: 9.5/10
Sound: 7.5/10
This one surprised me.
The colour and dynamic range were excellent. In some scenes I actually preferred the look to standard digital IMAX.
It doesn’t have the sheer physical immersion of IMAX 70mm, and the audio wasn’t as impressive as the best IMAX/Dolby auditorium I’ve experienced, but visually it was a very pleasing presentation.
If someone told me they couldn’t get to an IMAX 70mm screening, I’d absolutely recommend trying a good EPIC auditorium rather than just going to the nearest standard screen.
Overall: 8.5/10

5. IMAX Digital — good sound, disappointing picture
Immersion: 7.5/10
Picture: 6.5/10
Colour: 7/10
Dynamic range: 7/10
Sound: 9/10
This was probably my least favourite presentation.
The large IMAX screen still gives you that sense of scale, and the 12-channel IMAX sound system can be seriously impressive.
But compared with the 70mm film presentation and Dolby’s digital projection, I found the picture noticeably less impressive — particularly in terms of sharpness, contrast and overall image quality.
The funny thing is that the sound was one of its strongest points.
Overall: 7/10

Curious to hear what’s your ranking?

A good alternative to IMAX for Brand New Day

I watched Spider-Man Brand New Day (second watch) in Onyx Diner at Inox Megaplex Inorbit Mall and I'm so glad I went for this screen because it was the best standard screen experience for me in a long time. Here's why I think y'all should watch it at this theater (assuming y'all don't want to go for the special formats) :

Aspect Ratio: The Flat aspect ratio was literally perfect for this movie and it was there for the entire runtime which was pretty dang cool (I believe this is the only non-imax screen that can play this AR, correct me if I'm wrong).

Colours And Clarity: This was honestly the best part about the screen; the crisp pixels were nice, the colours were so vibrant and the deep-blacks were really impressive, just like an OLED Screen!

Sound: Usually Hollywood movies don't feel loud to me in normal screens because they probably don't calibrate it properly but I can say that in this auditorium, that was NOT the case. The sound was literally perfect. The bass is amazing and the dialogue is clear. Keep in mind though, it's dolby 7.1, not Atmos (personally I don't mind this).

Cons: There was a tiny amount of dead pixels for 2 minutes near the top right of the screen (this happened during a really important scene so it kind of took me it out of the moment) and then never happened again. There's also a very slightly dark rectangular patch of pixels near the bottom-center left which is most of the times hard to notice but once you see it you can't unsee it so that's kind of a bummer but not a big deal.

Apart from a few downsides, I have no complaints and I'd totally watch another movie (preferably in flat AR) here.

Edit: People are saying the screen looks small, thats because I took it with a wide-angle lens. Its around the same size as a regular screen. Should've mentioned it before, my bad.

Does anyone know if PVR at Elegante Mall, NSP is accepting gift cards?

Also, can multiple gift cards be used together in a single transaction offline? For example, if I have 2–3 gift cards, can I combine their balances to pay for one booking?

**🚨 ALERT, Mumbai Folks: SCAM Happening at IMAX Inorbit Malad, Mumbai**

Want to talk about a scam going on at PVR/INOX Inorbit Malad/Ghatkopar involving IMAX presentation. Creating this post to make fellow patrons vigilant.

As some of you know, Mumbai has 7 IMAX screens, of which 5 are equipped with laser projection: Miraj Wadala, PVR Palladium, IMAX BKC, IMAX SkyCity and IMAX Eros. The remaining 2, Inorbit Malad and INOX Ghatkopar, still use the older Xenon projection system.

This post is specifically about those two Xenon IMAX venues.

What is IMAX Xenon?

IMAX Xenon is the older generation of digital IMAX projection. Unlike a standard cinema projector, a dual-Xenon IMAX system uses two Xenon projectors working together.

The presentation can still look significantly brighter and more impressive than a regular multiplex screen. However, compared with newer IMAX Laser systems, Xenon generally has weaker contrast, less vibrant colours, softer fine detail and greyer blacks. If you've experienced both systems, the difference can be quite noticeable.

If you've never watched IMAX Laser, Xenon can still be an impressive experience. But once you've experienced a good IMAX Laser presentation, going back to Xenon can be difficult.

Now, coming to the actual issue

There have been repeated reports of cinema operators running only one of the two Xenon projectors during 2D IMAX presentations, potentially to reduce operating costs. Doing so can significantly affect the presentation, particularly brightness and overall image quality.

If you notice that only one projector is operating during the actual IMAX feature presentation, raise the issue with the Floor Manager immediately. IMAX tickets aren't cheap, and patrons are paying for the advertised IMAX presentation, so you have every right to question whether the system is being operated correctly.

Inorbit Malad and INOX Ghatkopar have been reported by patrons for this issue.

One excuse you may hear from staff is:

>"Both projectors are only used for 3D. For 2D, only one projector is used."

That is not how a dual-Xenon IMAX system is designed to operate.

How dual-Xenon IMAX works

2D presentation:

Both Projector 1 and Projector 2 are used. Both projectors display essentially the same 2D image, which is precisely superimposed. The images are offset by approximately half a pixel, contributing to the system's increased perceived resolution and brightness.

3D presentation:

Both projectors are also used, but they display different images. One projector presents the left-eye image, while the other presents the right-eye image.

So don't simply accept the explanation that "2D only uses one projector." If a staff member makes that claim, politely ask them to verify the projection setup with the projectionist or technical team.

If you encounter this at IMAX Inorbit Malad or IMAX Ghatkopar, call it out and raise a complaint with the Floor Manager. Don't just assume that one projector being off is normal.

I'm attaching some sample images below to help patrons understand what to look for.

[Kindly note: Trailers and advertisements may be shown using a single projector which is okay and normal, but both projectors should be operating during the actual movie presentation.]

Odyssey - 2k Xenon (malad) vs 4k laser (Palladium)

Mumbai Folk!

Curious to know if anyone has watched The Odyssey in both PVR Palladium (4K Laser projection) and in another IMAX (2K Dual Xenon Projection)

I’ve watched different films in both, but never the same one to be able to compare it directly.

Hence curious if anyone has done with exercise for the same film, Odyssey or otherwise.

How does Wadala Miraj IMAX compare to these two?

Do drop in your thoughts. Thanks in advance frendz!

Watched BND in PXL Kolkata and was disappointed.

After watching all the major movies in IMAX, I thought of watching BND in PXL Kolkata because of the flat screen. But I was disappointed with the 3d, seat arrangement and picture quality.

How was your experience with PXL? Is PXL always this inferior to IMAX or it’s the case with just this movie or theatre?

As Doomsday will not get any IMAX screen, I was planning to watch it on a flat screen (PXL - only one in Kolkata). Now I’m sceptical about it.

Going to watch The Odyssey tomorrow. 2nd time in PVR ICON Phoenix Palladium Lower Parel. 1st time was Oppenheimer top row middle seat. This time middle row middle seat. For those who have already watched in middle row middle seat, how's the experience?

![img](5dqif4b6hoih1)

Coming from Panvel just to witness the best possible experience. For those who have already watched in this theater with middle row and middle seat, please share your experience. I was also thinking to try Wadala IMAX but that has 5-channel IMAX Audio System whereas Lower Parel has 12-channel IMAX Audio System, So compromising a little bit of screen size was not a big deal.

Spiderman - Brand New Day at PVR PXL Oberoi Mall

Since Spiderman Brand New Day is not released in Imax, the next best option is PVR PXL

Watched Spiderman Brand New Day at PVR PXL at Oberoi Mall Goregaon. It was a goood experience.

Large screen, around 30ft wide & 20-25 ft tall, has great sound supported by Dolby Atmos.

The only drawback was I felt the screen was a bit unclean or blurry in some bright scenes, but apart from that great experience.

If not IMAX PVR PXL at Oberoi Mall is your next best option

Pune's Aundh IMAX needs to be upgraded.

Pune's Aundh IMAX is definitley due for a renovation/upgrade.

Opening around the same time as Palazzo IMAX, Chennai..

It was Pune's first and for many years, only IMAX theatre. Yet while Palazzo has since received major upgrades with IMAX XT Laser projection, 12-channel sound, refreshed interiors, and modern seating, Aundh has remained largely unchanged. It's beginning to show its age, with moviegoers increasingly reporting projector glitches very frequently, with the presentation just stopping randomly and people waiting for 30+ mins for the issue to be resolved, and other technical issues that disturb their movie experience.

After yrs of serving as Pune's only IMAX destination, it deserves the same level of treatment and modernization that its counterpart has already received. The theatre is still very popular among audiences, it sells almost the same amount of tickets as the Wakad Laser IMAX, and goes basically housefull for all releases. The 2K Dual Xenon system is really starting to show its signs of age, opening in September of 2016, the theatre will complete 10 yrs of using the same projectors next month, this is the same time Nexus Palazzo, Chennai got it's upgrade.

And i think it definitley deserves a projector and sound upgrade, well if not sound at least make this theatre Laser.
