Big or unusual things to take photos of in Ipswich?

I have someone visiting from overseas and she's been taking photos of everything haha, she wants to see some big and unusual things to take photos of here (just Ipswich please, not Brisbane/Gold Coast/Logan etc as I do not have the time or energy to head out that way) but I'm drawing a blank! I haven't been in Ipswich long enough to know so can I get some help please 🙏

Update and repost: Ipswichsocials is open (18+)

Hey all 👋

IpswichSocials is live and running, and we’ve already got a couple of activities planned. If you live in the Ipswich region and are 18+, feel free to DM me for a Discord link.

This space is for us Ippy locals to make friends and explore our city (and yes, we will actually go outside Ipswich sometimes lol).

You don’t even have a uterus so why should you get an opinion?

Like literally who asked you?

Anyone interested in an Ipswich social group? Ages 28-38

Hey everyone!

Would anyone be interested in joining an Ipswich social group?

The idea is to get together once a week and do a variety of activities things like hiking, bowling, board games, coffee, markets, trivia, or whatever people are interested in.

We'll post events about a month in advance, so you can come along to whichever ones suit your schedule and interests. There'll also be a Discord server so we can chat, suggest ideas, and organise everything.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know! I'd love to get a friendly community together and meet some new people.

Looking for new friends

Hiya, I’m looking for new friends in or around Ipswich ages 17-21. Trying to find people who are into things that I am (motorbikes, gaming, late night walks. And just having a good time).

A few things about me. I’m 17, gay, I do have my own motorbike specifically a Zontes ZT-125 C1. I play on basically everything. PS, PC, Xbox and VR.

If anyone wants to be friends give a lil DM

ADDED: forgot there’s was a Ipswich in Australia I mean Ipswich, England

Night drives

Hi guys, firstly I'm not a hoon or wanting to tear up the road. I'm just wondering if anyone has some good places for night drives. Maybe good spots to stop and sit in the fresh air. Listen to some music, that kind of thing.

Ipswich qld social group

Hey!

I'm trying to start a social group for people in Ipswich. If you're interested, send me a DM!

I don't know why every other area seems to have an active social group except us. 😂 Let's change that and build one ourselves.

Hey all, this is going to be a crazy ask

Ippy man here. Proudly so. I moved to the US for love. I currently am in Texas with my wife and missing home. So much so that I... maybe booked some flights back in September. I'm looking forward to driving straight from the airport to KFC for some decent chips for once. Anyway my wife has only been to Australia once before. She's an animal lover. I had this crazy idea about like... finding some place she could touch a few of our cute little buggers. Mainly a wombat. I'm sure if she pats one cute little wombat she's going to be all like "okay so when are we moving here". So anyone got any leads on something like that? I would never let her touch a wild animal so is there any animal sanctuary or pets anyone knows of?

Anyway thanks for your help in advance. I can't wait to be home even if only temporary. I haven't heard anything but Yanks for 2 years. I've been telling my wife I can't get Nobbys Nuts off my mind and she has no clue what I'm talking about.

These are Ipswich's 5 protected trees

I travelled to each one and also did a video.

You can see all the more in if you're interested here: https://ipswichinsider.com.au/p/ipswich-protected-trees/

They are protected under Vegetation Protection Orders. If you damage or remove it, you can face penalties up to $146,795 (850 penalty units). Anyone can nominate a tree/vegetation but of course council decides which ones actually get it. Only 5 are on the register since 1997.

M7 street lights

Does anyone remember when sections of the M7 street lights were turned off? I had an early morning drive recently, and it was very foggy. Those lights would have really helped.

Where are you getting your rims touched up?

Turned the wheel into a gutter and scraped the edge ffs.

Any rec’s on a good touch up business in Ipswich? Happy to travel, but mobile would be excellent.

I just walked from Ipswich to the CBD

So I caught the first train out from Roma Street station to Ipswich Station and walked to the starting point around Bunnings West Ipswich

This is my first recorded walk in Brisbane but my third walk having walked to the CBD from Redcliffe and Loganlea. I was originally going to start around 3am by booking a hotel room in Ipswich and then spending the second night in the CBD but I decided against it after realising that the trains could get me there at an acceptable time

I have only visited Ipswich once before so doing this walk gave me a better appreciation of the area. I wouldn't mind doing some shorter walks involving Ipswich as the destination

This is what a short stroll around One Mile can gift you

I love One Mile. I grew up on the edge of Brisbane - South. The wide edge between rural and suburban. One Mile reminds me of that.

Best fruit & veg shop in Ipswich?

Was previously getting stuff from a crazy cheap fruit shop in Darra occasionally when I had appointments around that area, but I'm not heading down that way much anymore and it's a bit much of a drive just to go for cheap fruit.

So I'm asking around here for opinions on the best place to get fruit and veggies in Ipswich. Especially when factoring in quality of the produce, how long it lasts from buying it and price.

Very much sick of buying stuff from my local woolies or coles that goes off anywhere between 1-4 days after buying it 😭

Is anything being done to help the growing campground on Toongarra Road?

For those that don't know where exactly, here is a google maps pin

There's been one campground there for a few months now, and that's fine, homeless people need to be somewhere.

But when I drove past the other day, there's now 2 more tents set up and 3 caravans.

As I said, obviously these people need somewhere to go and be and live, it's not right to harass them...but the facilities to support them, showers, drinking water, etc...things to make people comfortable in society.

Obviously housing is bad, but why isn't Council or State Government doing something to help? Olympics is a couple of years away and we should hopefully be on top of this by then.

Coalfalls clay survivors - my husband fought our 1,200m2 block for two years. Built a free lawn tracking app out of frustration. Posting because locals might find it useful.

We're on one of the older Queenslanders up in Coalfalls with a full 1,200m2 block. Posting because my husband isn't on Reddit and I figure locals on the same clay might get something out of this.

What happened to our lawn:

Curl grubs ate the root system. He treated with Acelepryn and the grubs died. But then he put Barricade pre-emergent down on the recovering lawn, not realising it stops every runner from establishing new roots. Killed his own recovery. $3k+ lesson.

We ripped the front yard out early 2025. Full soil prep on Coalfalls clay:

- pH test: 5.5-6.5 (typical for here)

- Gypsum at 200-500g per m2 to break clay aggregation

- Dolomite to raise pH and add magnesium

- Volcamine Zeolite at 1-2kg per m2 (permanent nutrient retention)

- LawnPride Under Turf Starter

Laid Sir Walter Buffalo DNA Certified. Cyclone Alfred hit three days later. It survived. Front verge is thriving now.

Why I'm posting here specifically:

My husband is a medically retired vet and his notes about what he applied were scattered everywhere. Different apps, notebooks, bags in the shed. He has cognitive decline from service so tracking this stuff across multiple places is genuinely hard. He started building a little app for himself to keep it all in one place.

I turned it into a real product. It's called LawnSuite, it's free, and you can use it right now in your phone browser without installing anything:

app.lawnsuite.com.au

lawnsuite.com.au

It's got 111 Australian products with real label rates, dosage calculator for your lawn area, BOM weather, treatment logging. Built for Australian conditions, not a US app with metric conversion.

Backyard is still dirt. Waiting on Stampede Buffalo to come out for the shaded 632m2 out the back.

Anyone else fighting Coalfalls clay? Would be good to know what's worked for people locally. Also happy to pass on anything my husband learnt the hard way if it saves someone the same mistakes.
