J Dilla in a record store find location

This photo from "Jay Dee's Revenge / Birthright" (2012) by J Dilla.

According with the internet it could have been taken in The Sound Library 165 Orchard St, NYC https://maps.app.goo.gl/FACK23FfZWYZXYDw9 but I think simply It can't be the place, The Sound Library was sited in a semi-basement and the shop in the photo looks in a street level site, please check the street view.

Finished the Last Batch Concept

Idea from my last post. Before yall click the link n go sayin wtv. This is just a lil fun idea I did with all the possible last batch beats floatin, and some others I thought kinda fit. Its prolly the most inaccurate thing ever. But it doesn't hurt to share, its more about listening to dilla beats than actually tryna compile the last batch. Realistically the only ones that I would actually see on the last batch is track 1, 3 maybe 4, 5, 6, 9, 16, and 17. Track 10 and 14 are probably madlib beats cuz of the sound, but i added em cuz one of dillas last raps was on track 10 and houseshoes throws track 14 ina few of his mixes. Track 17 since there's no good quality version, in the middle of the song I throw my own drums and bass over it to enhance it, not switch it too much. Alot of the random beats and intro beats are houseshoes mix snippets that sound like a later dilla type beat, thats why there's fx. Like I said its not rlly that good and def not accurate so u dont gotta tell me that, but mayb some feedback will b coo !! Peace

J Dilla Archive

Hey guys, yesterday I tried to post links to a large archive of Dilla beats that I originally found on Reddit, but has since been taken down. Unfortunately, the links were filtered, so other users couldn't see them. Thus, I've decided to post a link to a Google Doc that contains the links. Here it is:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PuHlPHf86-V8adhlBNPbZj_XXxQuo2xhK_8EiB9A5sk/edit?usp=sharing

Let me know if there are any problems!

J Dilla Archive

Hey guys, I noticed that a large Dilla archive was pulled from Google Drive after 7 years. Luckily, I downloaded it before that! I'll link it in the comments for you.

Calling out everyone selfishly hoarding unreleased Dilla beats - it’s time to release them to the community.

And for all the toxic Dillaheads out there:

Yes, we are 100% (ONE HUNDRED PERCENT) entitled to those beats.

Dilla loved his fans.

“I want people to feel what I feel“

He wanted people to hear his music, not have his work hidden away from the public.

Enough said.

Release the beats.

And for those of you who disagree:

Go ahead and cry in the comments.

SV Fan-tas-tic

Insert only. I finally found a frame that would fit it. Probably the closest I'll get to owning the original tape : ...)

(Shout out to the person that posted the Dilla keepsakes a few weeks back, you inspired the gold gild)

My attempt at J Dilla DD.013

This was by far the trickiest remake ive done so far, the bass is a close as i could get it, the snare and hi hat are reasonably close as well, and the sample is decent, let me know what you think

Has the vocal intro sample in J Dilla's "On And On" ever been identified?

I'm trying to identify the overlapping male/female voices at the beginning of J Dilla's "On And On Instrumental" (0:00–0:25).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piK_WyuzTOQ

I've spent some time isolating the intro and trying to make out the words. To my ears it sounds something like:

>"You said that ... to make you smile ... on and on ... you said that you were giving up ..."

The voices are layered and filtered enough that I don't trust that transcription, so I'm hoping someone might recognize the source instead.

I also found another version of the beat that seems to contain more of the same vocal before it gets chopped, but I still haven't been able to identify where it's from:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3q51-pk_d8

I think the main musical sample is Lenny Breau – "That's All" (1969)

Sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSNmORs5Eds
Breakdown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1Itpi3cg80

It appears to be the same source used in Dilla's "Secrets of the Sand"

However, the intro voices don't seem to come from that recording, so I'm specifically looking for the vocal sample at the start—not the main musical sample.

I've seen people mention Erykah Badu, Teena Marie, Tina Glover and Dwele, but I haven't found a specific track that matches the intro.

Have the vocal lyrics ever been identified? If anyone remembers an old forum discussion, sample breakdown, has a lead on the source, or any thoughts I'd really appreciate.
