Joining as a dual citizen

I’m posting here because I’d like to know if anyone has had a similar experience or if anyone is considering to attempt what I’d like to. I am a dual citizen, born in Connecticut to a Canadian family from New Brunswick. I currently live in Connecticut but my wife and I(who is also a dual citizen with her family being from Quebec) are considering moving to Canada. I served in the United States Navy for 5 years and was unfortunately medically discharged, but of course under honorable conditions. With that being said, I’d like to join RCMP. I plan on more than likely moving to New Brunswick as much of my family lives there. I understand I’ll have to obtain a Canadian drivers licence after establishing a residence before even being able to apply to RCMP. I know this was a lot so I understand it’s probably rare someone has gone through something similar but I’m curious. What are the odds I’ll be accepted? What should I expect in the process? Anything helps and is appreciated, thank you

Edit: by the way, my age is 31

24 month contract with CAF - Applying now ?

Hey all, I recently had the chance to train with some guys from the RCMP and it pushed me to pursue a career with them after my time in the military.

They told me it would be ok to apply 24 months out as the process is usually 12-16-18 months approx. as I would like to take their word for it, is there a chance my file gets deferred or closed should I get an offer within the next 12 months while still being under contract for another year hypothetically.

Thanks for all the responses in advance.

Collections

If i have an account in my credit reports that went into collections that was resolved and paid for from two years ago and now have decent credit with no other forms of debt would i still be automatically disqualified from applying for the rcmp?

Medical conditions

So I am in the process of applying and was reading the medical requirements where it lists the condituons yoi have to declare. I have IBS. It definitely impacts my day to day but I have leaned to live with it function as a normal human being appart from going to the bathroom a couple more times a day. I will definitely discolse it but is that something that would disqualify me or should I keep going with my application?

Posting locations after depot training

Hey all,

Looking at applying as I believe this is the career for me but have questions for recent people who have just got out of depot.

Did you get the town/city you wanted, or close? I’m not fully set on getting my home town or somewhere close to it, just curious on how well they work with you.

Would be a dream to get banff for a posting, or somewhere in southern Alberta as well.

Was just curious from recent recruits on where they got posted compared to what they requested.

Thank you!

How much does your previous career help with getting into specialized units?

Hey everyone,

I’m a software engineer with a few years of experience, and my long-term goal would be to eventually work in a specialized unit where my previous experience could be useful.

For those who joined the RCMP after working in another field, how much does your previous career actually help when it comes to getting into specialized units?

In my case, I’m wondering if having a software engineering/IT background can realistically give me an advantage, or if once you become a regular member, everyone is pretty much starting from the same place.

I’d also be curious to know how realistic it is to get into a specialized unit, roughly how many years it can take, and whether having a specific background can help you get posted somewhere you actually want to be.

I’m mainly trying to get a realistic idea of what I can expect. I know there are no guarantees, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually gone through it.

Thanks!

RCMP Depot start date deferral due to contract with the CAF

Does anyone know if you can request a certain day to begin depot due to obligations being under contract with the CAF ?

Thanks in advance.
