Thoughts on parasocial freaks amongst the fandom obsessed with prying into Joseph Anderson's personal life?
I've only recently gotten into watching Joseph Anderson's videos thru Umineko, but I've noticed some people posting quite invasive comments relating to his marriage/divorce with Mouse or Lili and fishing for rumors or speculation on his detailed whereabouts as if entitled to such information, which speaks to a broader pathology of Internet culture. As more of our social lives become mediated through digital vessels, people increasingly import a caricaturized version of norms from genuine interpersonal relationships into fundamentally one-sided ones as well as a profound invesment previosuly reserved for personal matters into an obsession with a simualcra that replaces them.
I've seen people argue that because they've invested hundreds of hours into Joe's content, they either deserve overt 'transparency' about the circumstances that lead him into taking a break or feel as if perusing amongts the community for gossip is a worthwhile endeavour. Which is not merely mistaken but rests on a profoundly unhealthy understanding of what the relationship between creator and audience actually is, a creator choosing to not further disclose on certain private matters should not turn conjecture about them socially acceptable, much less when he's clearly stated he may explain it all in due time and wishes for us to not pry on it.
The healthiest creator-audience relationship is one where both sides remember what it actually is: appreciation for someone's work, not ownership over the person who made it. And the healthiest relationship with such work is one were the appreciation remains as it should: fulfilling enough, not an totem to suplant real life with.
Thoughts on Joseph Anderson's recent break/personal issues?
Let me preface this thread by saying I've been a fan of Joseph Anderson (a "Joester") since approximately 2017 when I first happened across his The Witness video. As many of us, we've grown with Joseph Anderson over the years, laughed with him, raged, cried, and so forth. We have grown to become personally involved in his life. His divorce shocked us. His relationship with Mouse (that controlling jerk who forced him to change to UmiPro halfway through Umineko that changed the font and UI and nearly ruined the series) that thankfully ended. Etc. etc.
Naturally, we are not entitled for Joseph Anderson to answer why he took a break. It is accepted for him to step aside and leave us for a month and return without answering why he left. But we are entitled to speculate WHY this happened.
So, Joesters, why did he step away? What happened?
Why has Joaeph Anderson refused to read donation messages, claiming there are certain messages he cannot bear to read aloud? Personally, I believe these are messages that might wish him well--he is not well, and might feel emotional if he has to read these messages out loud.
Is it related to the divorce? Has Lili had a bipolar moment and stopped taking care of things? (Trying to avoid the K word that's been banned on this subreddit.) Did Joseph Anderson get into another relationship that ended? (I don't think this is it, because he seems to be able to pragmatically Move On from relationships as seen with the Mouse incident.)
Why, bros?
Is joe a commie
so today I was watching my favorite streamer play 007 first blood or something and he's riffing and raffing with the chat that I didn't have open because I was at the office doing important work for a corporation. To my complete and utter shock, the topic of the conversation turns to the idea of willingly wasting resources because corporations are the biggest consumers of resources and one person changing their behavior won't do anything. Now, this logic works all on its own without bringing up the illusive, ethereal, "nefarious" corporations, who were not named (and their behaviors were not named either) but it begs the question - why do corporations use so many resources in the first place? is it perhaps because they're selling a product to regular every day consumers like me or you? Are you telling me that they are only following consumer behavior and not just putting everything into a fire pit? The fault lies entirely with the consumer, actually. So what's the deal with the corporation hate? I had thought he was an intelligent man. Maybe he's fallen for the slopulist movement going on right now in which case he becomes my third favorite streamer instead of my first. or maybe he really is a full blown commie now.
Joe, if you care to issue an apology, I'll delete this post.
The People review Life is Strange: Joe reads Reviews SUPERCUT
You love Joe, but hate all his opinions? This is the video for you! A compilation of Joe reading *other people's* opinions on the Life is Strange games. Silences and tangents are cut out, so it's roughly one hour of hyper-compressed Bad Takes.
This is a small follow up to the video I posted yesterday, because a few people in the youtube comments indicated interest in a Supercut like this. I do not plan to spam the subreddit with Mid-Effort compilations like this every day.
My next video will be compiling all of Joe's Micro Reviews on Stream Games he has done since the end of 2022. It'll still take a while.
Lastly, I am still holding out for a Cairn playthrough.
Joseph Anderson reviews Life is Strange Games SUPERCUT
This is a compilation of Joe sharing his thoughts on every single Life is Strange game after completing it.
Hi, it's me again, the guy who released the 10 Hour Dark Souls Hypercut a few weeks ago (viewable here). This is part of a larger project to compile every single Joseph Anderson Micro-Review (so the stream segments where he talks about a game after beating it) into one video.
Q: What value does this video provide?
A: This is by far and away the best way to get Joe's thoughts on every Life is Strange game. Not only does it save you the time to actually look for every single last stream of each game and *then* look for the section where he reviews it, no, I have also edited each segment to cut out long silences (which are abundant, since these reviews come after 6+ hour stream sessions), remove Donation-Readouts which have nothing to do with the games, including other tangents, I have adjusted volume to be universally pleasant between all games (some were WAY louder than others) and more!
Q: What is the best Life is Strange Game?
A: Before the Storm is the best one. It is, undeniably, YA-Slop (and so is the first one). However, video games as a medium have *so little* YA material, that it, somehow, becomes YA-Gem. Yes, I played it when I was 15. The second best is Life is Strange 1. I also played Captain Spirit, which I liked, and Life is Strange 2 Episode 1, which I *also* liked. I watched Joe play the entirety of Double Exposure and Reunion, which both looked AWFUL.
Q: Anything else you want to say?
A: I am *still* holding out for Joe to stream Cairn. It's peak.
Remember when Joe didn’t have Chat on the screen
Joe should put chat on the middle of the screen and just ignore messages complaining about it.
canadian centrist gets brutally ethics-mogged by european with a bachelor's in philosophy, sad!
my opinion of Forgotten City has considerably improved with this second stream, the writing got much better. Looking forward to the finale!
Best way to watch the Umineko streams?
I dont know if some member of the community in the past made a godlike video or something, or should i just watch the non official channel 45 parts playlist, guide me to the umineko gold please
Where can I find the list of upcoming streams/games
I’m sure this gets asked often and I missed something obvious so sorry about that, but do we know what the next games that joe plays will be?
tbh still forever wishing for just one full stream of joe playing vtmb as a malkavian
i know this ship has probably long sailed but i just started my first playthrough of vtmb as a malkavian after watching joe’s streams from a while ago and holy shit dude, all i can think about is joe reading all the great dialogue options in his yusuke voice. even the little taste that we got of it at the end of the final stream was amazing lmao
also i feel like these streams are pretty underrated and i kinda wish someone would make a highlights video for them
