Lock layout question

I have a really annoying issue I cannot find the solution to, and I don't understand how I'm the only one with this issue. I CONSTANTLY have an issue when I am dragging media from the sequence section (on my layout it's on bottom left) to the timeline (middle bottom) where the layout windows will just start moving around INSTEAD of the clip I am trying to drag. It happens SO OFTEN I have to constantly reload my layout. This happens I would say 5 out of 10 times when dragging a clip to the time line. I have googled for hours trying to figure out how to lock the layout to prevent this to no avail. Why is this happening? Can you not lock the layout? (Linux, mint, cinnamon, kdenlive 26.04.1)

How to Render videos Faster On Linux Mint?

Hello. I switched to Linux a while ago and have been finding great Linux alternatives to software I used to use on Windows.

I like to make YouTube Videos discussing anime and other things as a hobby. Kdenlive is the only Linux Alternative to the video editing software I used before that works really well and is easy to get used to (My old video editing Software was Filmora 9). There is still one major problem I have with it though. Rendering videos takes forever. I have an NVIDIA graphics card (RTX 4060Ti) and on windows Filmora had a checkbox that would enable GPU accelerated rendering. I would be able to render a half hour long video in 10 or 15 min.

However when I made a test video on Kdenlive I did not see an option for this and the rendering estimation said 1 hour for a ten min video ( I wanted it rendered as an Mp4 at 1080p 30fps, I used effects I commonly used in YouTube videos I made with Filmora such as croping, zooming and Chroma Key/Green Screening). Since I sometime make longer videos and use more effects this makes me worry about the length of time this will take for bigger videos.

TLDR: Is there a way to enable enable GPU acceleration in KdenLive on Linux Mint or just any advice you can give me to speed up the Rendering?

Fuji Velvia 50 Inspired Look: Advanced 10-bit HEVC BT.2020 LOG Grading Pipeline

This workflow is specifically optimized for high-end mobile acquisition pipelines and tested on source files with the following specifications:

  • Resolution: 4K UHD (3840×2160) at 30fps
  • Codec: HEVC / H.265 (~46 Mbps)
  • Colorspace: ITU-R BT.2020 wide color gamut
  • Pixel Format: 10-bit yuv420p10le source files

By leveraging 10-bit BT.2020 footage, the grading pipeline can aggressively compress tonal response and enhance color separation and saturation while minimizing visible banding and digital artifacts.

The look emphasizes:

  • Rich landscape contrast
  • Dense blacks
  • Vibrant foliage rendering
  • Warm cinematic highlights
  • Slide-film inspired color density

Designed primarily for smartphone LOG workflows inside Kdenlive.

The Technical Breakdown (Scopes Analysis):

  1. Crushed Shadows (Hard Clip): Stacking the creative LUT twice multiplies the RGB cube values, driving the minimum black levels straight to absolute zero (Red: 0, Green: 2, Blue: 0). This accurately replicates the narrow exposure latitude and deep, ink-black shadow drop characteristic of Velvia slide film.
  2. Warm Highlights: The RGB Parade shows a clear Red-heavy dominance in the highlights (R: 220, G: 190, B: 187), giving landscape elements, soil, and stone textures a rich, amber warmth.
  3. The Chromatic Axis: The Vectorscope reveals a tight, stylized stretch strictly along the Yellow-Green (Yl-G) to Cyan (Cy) axis, cleanly separating the warm foliage from the deeply polarized teal skies without introducing digital chroma muddying.

The Effect Stack Order & Parameters (Crucial):

  1. Apply LUT (Cinematic/Creative Look) — 1st Instance
  2. Apply LUT (Cinematic/Creative Look) — 2nd Instance. VERY IMPORTANT: This double-stack drives the aggressive contrast expansion and dense color packing directly from the flat LOG source.
  3. Soft Glow (Blend Mode: Screen / Shadows: 0.00 / Blur: 0.50 / Brightness: 0.50 / Sharpness: 0.85). Generates a subtle, creamy lens halation strictly on the post-LUT highlights (e.g., metallic and sky reflections).
  4. Gaussian Blur (StepsX: 1, Planes: YUV, Vertical Sigma: -1). Just a touch to strip away the harsh, artificial micro-contrast and digital over-sharpening typical of small mobile sensors.
  5. Video Noise Generator (Replicating organic film grain structure. Component #0 Strength: 3 to 4 (Luminance-only grain, perfectly scaled for 4K delivery). Component #1 & #2 Strength: 0 (Eliminating artificial digital RGB/chroma noise). All components noise seed: -1 (Ensures active, dynamic frame-by-frame grain movement). Flag Component 0: Uniform Noise

Download XML from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1THx7Tp_axM06dIrLq-OCr7FHfS6XS_6N/view?usp=sharing

Inside the XML, the LUT paths are pointing to a local Windows directory (c:/Program Files/.../CINEMATIC.cube). After installing this custom effect, make sure to click on the two Apply LUT effects in your Kdenlive interface and manually re-link them to your own copy of the CINEMATIC.cube LUT file, otherwise the color transformation will not apply!

Is there a more efficient way to group clips than this?

I'm trying to put all these clips side by side without any blank space. are there any shortcuts for this thing, where I could press a couple of keys and they all line up neatly, one after the other?

colora lost from videos/images from iPhone

When i import a video or photo taken on my iPhone to kdenlive, it loses all it’s colors and in the rendered video looks very ”dull”. When importing the videos kdenlive asked to transcode them to an edit friendly format, don’t know if this has something to do with it.

However, would be nice to get the original color profile back. Anyone know why this is happening?

[Plasma 6] I built a dynamic neon clock widget using Qt6 & QML (Life is Strange inspired)

Hey everyone,

I pushed out a Plasma 6 clock widget a couple days ago and figured I’d post it here too. It started as me messing around with a Life is Strange inspired neon look, then slowly turned into an actual plasmoid instead of another abandoned QML experiment sitting in a folder somewhere.

Everything’s written in Qt6/QML. The glow uses MultiEffect, and the butterflies are vector animations because the early versions felt heavier than they had any right to be once blur/compositor effects kicked in.

I wired the settings directly into Plasma’s config window, so you can disable animations, switch themes around, mess with glow decay values, etc. The OLED burn-in paranoia is real.

If you use darker desktop themes or monochrome setups it’ll probably blend in better than on super colorful layouts.

KDE Store:

Mostly posting this because I want other people to break it and tell me what’s wrong with it. Especially on Wayland.

My music video proudly made in KDEnlive! Any tips for improving my VHS emulation?

I don't love the default VHS effect (maybe I still don't know how to use it properly), but I have a workflow to create VHS-like videos I've been improving for years :)

I've been using KDEnlive for almost a decade now, and I still have so much more to learn about it. Any tips are welcome :)

Really cheap laptop for basic video editing

Basically the title. I'm wanting to get a cheap laptop for use with video editing while sitting on the couch.

It can be refurbished.

I just want to know what are some good options for just a couple hundred or so. (preferably under $200 and no more than $500... if I can figure out a way to save up to that much)

Kdenlive UI/UX is really painful and frustrating, which is really too bad

I always try and use open source solutions (I also do monthly donations for the ones that I use regularly), both for practical reasons (no tracking, general focus on making a good product, ability to get in touch with the devs) and for philosophical reasons (open source is the future, current model will eventually feel quaint like the pre-WW1 empires of Europe).

However, the future is not yet here and we have to be realistic about the strengths and weaknesses of open source solutions. There will of course be pain points and we have to be patient and constructive about them.

That being said, I feel that my experience with Kdenlive goes beyond reasonable paint points.

I am relatively tech savvy (use headless linux for a home server, comfortable with ffmpeg) and I have a modicum of experience with video (mainly encoding and upscaling with Topaz AI). Not a "high end prosumer" by any means, but also not a complete noob.

With Kdenlive I straight away failed to even input two videos on my timeline. I eventually figured it out (even LLMs weren't very helpful) and went through some needed processes, but then Kdenlive crashed. I tried to cut up the timeline into chunks to reduce the likelihood of crashes, but I wasn't able to deploy cuts on both video streams at the same points.

Decided to start from scratch. So started a new project and once again I wasn't able to input two video streams. At this point I gave up and uninstalled Kdenlive.

I understand that NL video editing is a pretty complex area, but I feel like I am target segment for an application like Kdenlive.

I don't think I should be struggling with something as basic as adding in a second video track to the timeline...

Not my intention to just rage, just some genuine, "stream of consciousness" feedback.

Error: The File Or Folder Does Not Exist (Win 11)

I'm having a weird issue now where trying to save a new project shows an error saying "File could not be found", and trying to overwrite an existing project shows the error from the title. I have to state that I'm on the latest version, updating was the first thing I tried when this error showed up.

I tried saving on Desktop instead of my projects folder and it worked fine, but I'm not sure what could be causing my projects folder specifically to show this error. The folder exist and the root is correct, I tried with and without a / at the end, tried replacing / with \ and nothing.

As far as I can tell there are no permission problems with my Videos folder so I'm really confused, I edited a video like 2-3 weeks ago like normal and this issue wasn't a thing.
