Thread for small businesses that have been effected my the power outages

I want to share small businesses that were effected by the power outages this week to make sure we drum up extra support for them. It should be of First Energy and CPP to help them but I’m sure they are useless. And insurance can take forever.

I have a small list I noticed from social media but I know I’m definitely missing places

Rood Food and Pie
Gingham Market
Brewella’s
Dahlia Coffee
Heart of Gold
Proof Public House
Cleveland Bagel Company
Lakewood Garden Center

Who is else is there? Thanks!

Which Giant Eagle?

I’m somewhat new to the area and typically shop at Heinen’s. I shop their sales to help with the higher cost overall, but they have the best produce department. Even better than Lucky’s, IMO. I was wondering which of the 2 Giant Eagles is better for picking up a few things when I don’t want to drive to Heinen’s or they are closed. Is one cleaner? Better produce? Nicer employees? I live pretty much equal distance from both. Or is Lucky’s pretty much the same price-wise and I should just go there? It seems more expensive to me.

How to pay for bus/train tickets?

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I just moved to the area two days ago. I don’t drive, so when my boyfriend is at work I’ll be taking public transportation everywhere. Silly question: what’s the best way to pay for it? I know back in Pittsburgh we had an app for it, or we could buy physical tickets or pay with cash if we preferred. Is it the same way here?

EDIT: thanks for the suggestions everyone! I downloaded the transit app and it looks really easy to use so I think that’ll be my go to :)

Did Park row lose power ?

Does anyone know if Park row (or the surrounding streets) have lost power over the last couple days? We don't get back home til tomorrow and I'd like to know what we're walking into. Don't really trust the outage map to be accurate.

Email I just got from FirstEngergy

What a joke. No apology, no course of action… just telling us we need to conserve energy to avoid this from being a common occurrence. Why don’t they just do their jobs? 🙄

Shooting at Lakewood City Center/Marcs Plaza.

There was a shooting at Marc’s Plaza just a few minutes ago. The gunman is still at large. He was a black male last seen walking down Warren towards Franklin wearing a black backpack. I would suggest staying clear from the area.

Update: There was also a report of a white male who was shooting at a car that had kids in it.

4:09 pm - Lakewood Police have one suspect in custody and waiting for a witness to identify.

4:16 pm - There’s a lot of radio silence, I think they’re using cell phones to communicate or possibly another channel.

Note: This information is what is being heard over the police scanner.

Free Water for Lakewood Residents

Don't worry everyone, FirstEnergy is offering free water! They're also asking us to conserve electricity.

I'd much rather they fix the grid, personally.

From FirstEnergy: > We understand the frustration and hardship recent outages have caused for Lakewood residents, especially during this period of extreme heat. The heat wave has created extreme conditions across our region, driving extraordinary electricity demand and placing significant strain on electric infrastructure.

> As the extreme heat continues through the holiday weekend, we’re asking customers to conserve electricity when possible – especially between 3 and 6 p.m. daily when demand is typically highest. Using less electricity can help protect the system and prevent additional outages – and help you manage energy costs during this time of high use.

> If you should experience an outage, free water is available at the following Giant Eagle locations beginning at 4:00 p.m. on July 3 through Sunday evening, July 5.

> 14100 Detroit Ave. 3050 W 117th 22160 Center Ridge Rd.

> Additionally, local cooling centers are open and available for those who need a place to cool off and charge devices:

> Gunning Rec Center, 16700 Puritas Ave Cove Community Center, 12525 Lake Ave

Power outage..

This has been happening for over 20 years of living here. However this is by far the worst and longest power outage. I have neighbors who have been in their cars for 6 hours bc they have new born babies, kids and no where to go. What the fuck is happening here? What about the elderly? People who work nights and can’t be with their pets? Lakewood taxes are so high. Cost of living? So fucking high! Small businesses and their employees losing income. It’s a holiday weekend and a record breaking heat wave. But instead they build massive apartment buildings to house thousands and can’t even keep up with the power grid. Why would anyone pay to live there?

The Power Issues Long-Term

To preface this post: fuck FirstEnergy. They have been negligent and are only attempting to fix things because of pressure put on them. I file a PUCO complaint every single time there's a power issue.

With that said, I'd like to express some optimism: I do think things will get better eventually.

From what I understand, these transformers are designed to address the core power issues we're seeing. However, they aren't online yet; the first one (noted above) won't be active until "later this year".

Planned power outage after being without power the previous 21 hours?

Just got this voicemail. Normally I’d say fine, they’re incompetent but I can handle an hour. But this is coming after already being without power for almost 24 hrs? Just emptied my fridge of all food items, most of them in the freezer as well since they were mostly thawed. My house downstairs was just over 90, upstairs just under 100. Power has been back on for me for 50 minutes now, this is not the voicemail I wanted to get.

Which Lakewood is this?

So I joined this thinking this was for Lakewood Colorado. Is it? I tried to look through post to figure out what state this is for and I am more confused.
