Hello, my question is basically the title. How do I learn Dota. I tried several times to get into the game but every time i fail at the start i just dont get what i have to do and dont even see what i could improve or work on. Every game I just load in and press random buttons untill i see the vitory or defeat screen. I am compleatly lost.

Coming back to Dota after 1 year — Divine 2 carry switching to offlane, need some advice

Hey guys,

I’m coming back to Dota after about a year away. Before I quit, I was Divine 2 and mainly played carry, but this time I’ve decided to switch roles and play offlane.

Since I’ve been away for a while and I’m still pretty new to the offlane role, I’d really appreciate your help, especially with these heroes:

Timbersaw, Beastmaster, Brewmaster, Death Prophet, and Mars.

I already know how to play these heroes, so I’m mainly looking for advice on their item builds(i wanna know every single one of item builds), skill builds, and how to adapt them to different matchups.

I’d love to know the different item builds you can go for on each hero, what items you should buy against certain heroes, how you should level your abilities, and whether there are any matchups where you should approach the game or build your hero differently.

I’d also really appreciate it if you could recommend some high-level offlaners, YouTubers, or streamers who are really good at offlane and actually explain what they’re doing and why.

Thanks in advance!

(Heral 1) What did I do wrong to lose?

Game ID: 8954553199 (I'm the necro from Radiant team)

So I'm trying to improve to leave herald rank but this kind of games makes me feel I play so bad, because even been fed af the enemy team was able to win us.

reddit.com

Is there an AI I can download that's more role specific?

I want to learn how to be a better support but the bots are not picking carries.

If I do a pick a carry hero, they don't support properly.

I'm at a loss on how to better navigate this.

6.5k ( formerly 9k ) mmr player offering FREE coaching

Hello everyone, i've made these posts regularly for a while now so it's nothing new, i have some free time and i'd love to give back to the community by helping some of the people that aren't able to afford coaching usually.

I'm a 9K mmr coach and i've been coaching since 2018, i've helped over 200 students get to enjoy the game more and reach their goals while having a less stressful, more enjoyable relationship with dota. a big part of how i coach is centered around fun and feeling good, my philosophy with coaching is that for most people, the deterrent isn't the ability to learn, nor is it mechanical skill, but it's almost always consistency, and the biggest enemy of consistency is not having a good time when playing dota.

often times people force themselves to play meta heroes, to play specific roles, to do things they don't really enjoy because they believe that is the optimal way to rank up, and what i want to do is help people realize that this isn't necessarily the way to go, that you can rank up and achieve your goals while having fun, the hundreds of people i've coached are proof of that, and i am proof of that myself, as i've always just played what i enjoyed no matter what.

Feel free to dm me to chat and schedule something together, thank you for reading!

How do you guys make Centaur work mid/late game?

Divine 3 here and primarily play pos3, TI saw almost every 2nd game having a CW pos3 but I have come to the understanding that he is a very team dependent hero.

I am always having a good lane yet once the game progresses mid/late game, I miss Pos3 like Axe/Slardar/Doom who do pretty well against BKB carriers as I feel the threat to carry reduces drastically, and eventually need to aim supports first.

I am looking to understand from the pros here on their POV of how do they plan for the mid/late game and close it out and single handedly shut down the game.
If you can share views on itemization too that would be great.

I do fairly well with the hero unless enemy has a LS/Timber/Necro .

[Or I might just be overthinking and it was an unlucky streak of 3 bad games where my cores were trash lol]

Earth spirit mid kaya vs veil

Kaya:+16 Intelligence+10% Spell Damage Amp+20% Mana Regen Amp
Veil+10 Intelligence+175 Health+18% Spell Lifesteal (Hero)+3.6% Spell Lifesteal (Creep) Active: Weakens nearby enemies by applying a debuff that amplifies any spell damage they take.

I'm not really sure about this, but isn't Veil of Discord better than Kaya for Earth Spirit mid? If not, is it at least viable as a situational item?

It makes you a bit more durable and provides additional spell damage for you and your allies in exchange for mana regen. To solve the mana issues, you could just backpack the Veil and use Bottle, or in pro games, backpack the Veil and use Arcane Boots from your allies.
Is it also possible to go for veil > bkb> shivas/octarinecore/ continue bloodstone instead of kaya> bkb> sange kaya

I'm open to debate because I don't really play the hero.

How to leave Herald 1?

Context: I played the 100 hours required to unlock ranked > I play ranked games until getting a rank (One of the worst experiences, people play worst than in normal games) > I get Herald 1 rank > I play like 10 more games were 1 out of 10 games I get a decent team, the other 9 games were ppl trolling without buying or playing carries as supports.... I've tried playing 1v9 heroes to carry all the games but sometimes is just impossible...

Tbh I don't know how to rank up like this... Most players here must be banned... there's players with +1k wins that don't even know how to play, looks like they have bought the account just to unlock rankeds...

What should I do to leave this hell rank full of bots?

I made a free coaching tool for drawing over gameplay VODs without the need to upload anything

I built this web app because I got regular coaching and seeing how simple epic pen is and how annoying it is to review footage that isnt uploaded to youtube, i figured i could do better, and so I built this and added a ton of useful features!

You can load a local video without uploading them to the server, or paste a video URL. Then you can draw over the footage, theres a variety of tools, including emotes and the ability to save drawings into save slots for easy loading. The video player has been designed to be customizable to whatever controls you prefer. You can not only change the keybinds but also how big the different skips are, (default is frame-by-frame, 1s 3s and 10s). Another feature is being able to put down markers (and label them), and it will update every second how long ago that moment was.

No account needed, and videos and drawings dont get uploaded to the server, pretty much everything is saved in your browser. You can even install it as an app so it works offline!

It's called Replay Whiteboard, and you can try it here: https://whiteboard.nymphokittiac.com/

I’d especially like feedback from people who do coaching or regular VOD reviews. What features would make this more useful for you? I made this app for Omega Strikers specifically, but made it in a way where it works for any game. Im very open for feedback and would love to hear what you guys think!

Turbo player wanting to better understand TI Meta

I've been playing this game on and off for 15 years and still love it, but lately turbo has been my go ti with friends and the meta is very different. Watching TI now, it was interesting how heroes need to be picked/banned and also the unpicked ones, hoping to understand better.

-I love centaur but whenever I play him, it sort of feels like a worse slardar? Both stun in area, but centaurs passive is almost nonexisting while slardar is so strong. Is it because of the aghs save? I can see an argument for ult too

-Timbersaw, how is this hero still picked after losing the 2 chakrams? The new aghs seems so dull and I was never a fan of the flamethrower.

-IO carry, I guess thats enough for itself, what is this?

-How is PA not picked? I understand competitive meta is very different than standard games, but that hero always felt strong to me.

-Is Ember Spirit physical still viable? Love the hero and still stuck in the 2015 builds of rapiers/deadalus, but seeing pros play with aghs got me so interested.

-Why is kotl mid so popular? I hate getting it in my team, feels so much weaker compared to others, is it really just aghs?

-Why is Hoodwink the most picked hero? Also feels to me there would be better options for the same role

-Lastly, what happened to silencer? How is 12 seconds of silence global not strong enough to be picked once?

Comment on any you want! I'm just looking to learn and put my pov which is wrong, I'm not defending them, thats why I'm looking for answers, thanks!

Realtalk guys, in 2k mmr, as an average player, is it really a looong way to rank up as Hard support? or i am just not giting gud.

Sometimes there are days that i have really bad games where people just run-down defending towers as a solo hero vs 5 enemies sieging. It was really disappointing. Also some days I feel that when we are behind early game causes the cores to farm very conservatively in the jungle resulting to delayed battlefury. I also encountered a PA farmed diffusal first item which I never had seen in my entire life and also got pissed for having seen her skirmishing every now and then and having 7 deaths straight. Maybe it is just Dark Carnival season when players from different walks of life are swarming? Sometimes i just wanna play offlane but I feel very uncomfortable. I usually play ET,Venge,Undy.

Which heroes to add to my arsenal?

After being stuck in Guardian for a good while as a primarily support player, I'm interested in switching over to a Pos 1 main. Right now, the two Pos 1's I'm most comfortable with are Faceless Void and Drow.

So far I've found that Drow is super easy to win with but FV is really not. Teammates get way too tilted way too easily with an FV because they think I farm too much, I don't land literally perfect chronos every time or I'm not strong enough soon enough.

So, I'm looking for other melee hero suggestions for Pos 1, but not Jugg or Ursa because they're too ubiquitous. Sven and Alch seem interesting, but I'm interested in everyone else's thoughts about 1 or 2 other heroes to start playing and getting accustomed with.
