Light in the painting is out! What are your thoughts?

At first I thought ok, this is a nice slow ballad that’s soft and chill. But when the drums came in OMG. So beautiful. Completely changed the vibe. If this is any indication, this album is going to wreck me lol.

Similarities between Drunk, Running and The light in the painting

I've been listening to the new single on repeat today and couldn't help but notice how similar these two songs are. Sure enough, it's in the same key, almost the same BPM, and the chord progression in the last instrumental might even be the same. I lined them up and they sound beautiful together. It's amazing to me how artists can take these similar elements and make two completely different songs.

Common motifs and phrases in Lizzy's albums

I was listening to "The light in the painting" (gorgeous) and started thinking again about the thematic and lyrical similarities between the songs in each project of hers, specifically repeated phrases and melodies.

In Give Me a Minute, the melody from the title track is woven into other songs off the album, and the project as a whole has the repeated theme of being unsure and not knowing how to communicate or process something and then needing time to figure it out.

The songs off five seconds flat have a much angrier and sarcastic undertone or encapsulate anger concealing grief, and I think the repeated phrase "what a shame" really drives that home, whether it's said in an ironic or sincere way.

The songs off Older repeat the phrase "over and over" several times which fits in with the album's themes: looking back often on how time has passed, but also the feeling of dread and how we anticipate something ending horribly over and over, leading to us barely enjoying the present moment.

In these songs from Angel, the idea of Lizzy imagining herself standing in someone's doorway has occurred twice, and there are several lyrics about feeling someone through nature or the simplest parts of the human experience, or the reverse, feeling the forces of nature through your lover. Lots of imagery about traveling and journeying but in a way that feels spiritual and imaginative. While her past lyrics have described emotions and events in a very blunt and realistic way, I think she'll be writing in a significantly more poetic and metaphorical style to really explain how loving is like a spiritual experience or a dream (but she's obviously done this before with songs like "weird", "ceilings", "Force of Nature"). Lots of Joni influence that really shines through, I love it.

I'm curious to hear what others are thinking.

Light In The Painting Chord Changes 1:41 to 1:49

Defining moment. chord changes from 1:41 to 1:49 set up the entire song, fusing the opening and subsequent movements, taking us to a place where only Lizzy can take us.

"Angel" is her first album title that doesn't relate to time

I was once telling one of my friends about Lizzy, since she's one of my favorite artists, and she pointed out that "Give Me a Minute," "five seconds flat," and "Older" all relate to time or the passage of it. I had never noticed that before but I thought it was a really interesting lens to view how that affected the themes of her work.

With this in mind, how do you think the new album will differ or reflect new areas of growth for Lizzy? I'm very excited to listen x

sad (but still excited) do we think there will be a restock?

As the rest of us, I’m SUPER excited for her upcoming album… it’s happening way sooner than anticipated! I’m from the US. I have a CD collection and would LOVE to add a signed version of angel to it. I did already pre-order the regular CD version (still grateful and excited) but was wondering if anyone thinks they might restock in the future? I’m hoping so! I know they restocked signed CD’s with Role Model’s new album. fingers crossed! anywho, any specific tracks you’re hoping to hear in this release? I’m excited for the new single!!! ⊹** **˖

Rsd vinyl?

Not sure if anyone else noticed but initially the link from Lizzy bio showed an RSD pre order which is now removed. So do we think we’re getting one?
