Looking for Long-Lost Halo Friends
Hey everyone,
This is probably a long shot(not a quad shot), but I've been thinking a lot about the old Halo days(as we do) and wanted to see if I could reconnect with some people who were a huge part of my life during that era.
I was heavily involved in the competitive Halo scene from Halo 2 through Halo 4. I primarily played Halo 3, where I spent most of my time in MLG playlists, customs, scrims, doubles, and GameBattles. I was also a mute player, so while many people may not remember hearing me, they might remember playing with me. Despite not using a mic, I was active in competitive circles and scrim communities. (This is something that I don’t normally share anymore, but this is unique and could potentially jog memories.)
The biggest reason I'm posting is because these people genuinely helped me through some difficult years. Without some of the friendships and communities I found through Halo, I'm honestly not sure I'd be here today. I'd love the opportunity to thank some of them.
(Spam of memories, excluding the memories of countless hours of practicing Plat to box flag juggling, and S1 to S2 with the oddball)
Some memories that might help identify the circles I ran with:
Halo 3 MLG playlist grinder. Regularly played scrims and GameBattles. Including the forbidden fruit of after midnight MLG ranked play, a lot of neighbor, LT. Wasp, cloudy cloud; moments.
My fileshare was either empty or flaming people who were on leaderboards and claimed to be the very best… smoking Rippinheads in lone wolves, Smiley in Team Slayer, etc, etc. I even had an overkill on the Pitt in doubles against Dominator, poor guy.
Frequent participant in the late-night "After Midnight" MLG queues.
Mostly solo queued and made a lot of new accounts. Even on my most notable account, I would solo queue for my 50s.
Endwish was probably my most recognizable account. It was essentially a ranked-only "butterfly" account with multiple 50s and no social history. I also had butterfly 50s, such as Valentine’s Day doubles, Team Objective, etc. I even recall participating in a community hub to team captain and run BtB. ( big Skype group, team captain would pick players then we would queue, not win trading but keeping the playlist active at a high level.)
Played with and against many recognizable competitive players of the era.
Have memories of games involving players like Formal, Ninja, Neighbor, Cloudy Cloud, Lt. Wasp, Towelieee, Yhslaw, orge twins; Tom the Cat… etc.
During Halo Reach, I briefly scrimmed on a team with Formal and a player named Renegade Drizzy during the GameBattles era, before Formal became one of the biggest names in Halo. I ultimately faded away during reach. This from what I know was when he first started dabbling in halo, definitely a different era. We did not get along and this was short term. Renegade Drizzy facilitated the introduction. If my memory recalls they were call of duty kids.
During Halo 4, I returned and played under Applebottom / Abbigail and Cybernetic Chic, again focusing on competitive play and scrims.
In Halo 4, there was a player who essentially acted as my mentor, helping me get into scrims and vouching for me with teams. I'd love to find him, but unfortunately I can't remember his gamertag. He organized a lot of scrim play, wasn’t the best player but very well liked in the community.
I remember frequently playing with someone named "Canadian BR." That my mentor introduced me too due to our skill sets complimenting each other.
One random memory: we scrimmed against Ninja in Halo 4 and managed to make him rage quit after a rough game. It's one of those memories that stuck with me all these years. The crashout was priceless.
There was another player that I queued with that was very focused on halo tracker or whatever it might of been called and the leaderboards, he hovered in the top 10, and him and I were like a couple; always queuing together. I remember we would often help “a criminal” when it came to competitive, whom was rank 1 on this leaderboard. We stopped when a criminal started to host boot. (I do not remember his gamertag)
Here are some gamertags I do remember;
"Freeeeeeezeeeee"
(or some variation)
I remember having a close Xbox Live friend with a gamertag that was essentially "Freeze" stretched to the maximum character limit. I don't remember the exact ratio of E's and Z's, but it was something along those lines. Him and I would duo nearly every day for what seemed like years. I remember helping him get his 50 in MLG, one of the final 50s he wanted. I also remember that I personally had a vendetta against the Suddoth twins, and freeze helped me snipe their MLG games. Like taking candy from a baby.
Ben
He was involved with graphics work for MLG players and teams. His gamertag changed often, but I remember versions of it being something like:
Itz Ben, Ben Does Graphics or something very similar.
Previous gamertags I used and can remember; that someone might also remember playing along side me!
Pandora Pangea (Halo 2)
Technicity (Halo 2–Halo 3) (most played)
Endwish (Halo 3) (most recognizable)
Girl with BR (Halo 3)
Grenadette (halo 3)
Cybernetic Chic (Halo 3–Halo 4)
Applebottom (Halo 4)
Abbigail (Halo 4)
SexySide (Halo 3–Halo 4)
SmexySide (Halo 3)
EW Chairthrow3r (Halo 3) (for the meme)
Harafumi
Astrikuna
Gurueshi
Onnafumi
If any of this sounds familiar, if you knew any of these people, or if you were part of the old Halo 3 MLG/GameBattles scene and remember any of these names, I'd love to hear from you.
Even if you're not one of the people I'm looking for, any advice on where else to post this would be greatly appreciated.
Or if you’re someone who remembers me! Maybe you can help connect the memory dots.
Thanks for reading. It's funny how a bunch of people met through a video game 15+ years ago can still mean so much.
Sincerely, your local wort commenter.
