Going on a date with Bae

|Queen's Night Life Series

Melissa and Aiden arrive at the second restaurant.

Melissa: Ok so I am sure this place will be better. The parking lot is somewhat empty.

Aiden: Did you look up the menu?

Melissa: Haha I did, and it is not as popular as your choice and not as expensive.

Aiden: Babe I wanted to do something nice for you.

Melissa: I appreciate the gesture, but we need to be smarter with our money and this new baby.

Aiden: Babe I have been pulling extra shifts to take you out.

Melissa: I really do not want to argue. I am far to famished for that. Can we get inside?

Aiden: Lead the way my lady.

[Research] Calling All Machinimators

Hi everyone,

I am a PhD student conducting research on digital games, prosumption, and participatory culture. As part of my doctoral thesis, I’m looking to understand the "why" and "how" behind the content you create within games through in-game production. I’ve put together a set of semi-structured interview questions to map out the journey of a creator. I am reaching out to this community because your experiences are central to my research. If you’d like to contribute, you can answer as many or as few of these questions as you feel comfortable with, either in the comments below or via DM. All responses will be kept confidential and used solely for academic purposes.

The Interview Questions

1. Background & Journey: When and how did you start playing games, and what do they mean to you? When/how did you start creating content?

2. Production Practices: What kind of content do you create? Where/Do you share your creation? (Steam, Instagram, YouTube etc.) How does your usual workflow progress?

3. Motivations (Psychological & Sociocultural): What do you enjoy most about the creation process? How does your work (creation progress) influence your gaming experience? How would you describe your relationship with the gaming community? What does it mean to you to see your work evaluated or used by others?

4. Economic Aspects & Future: Does creating content provide any financial gain for you? How would the prospect of monetization (or official support) change your workflow? For you personally, what could game companies do to encourage more in-game production? What kind of initiatives would actually make you create more? Would you be interested in paid content creation if provided the opportunity by developers?

5. Evolution: How has your motivation changed over time, and how has creating content transformed your perspective on games? What is your vision for the future of production in digital games?

Every insight is valuable to me! Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and helping me with my doctoral research.

Note: If you have any questions about the study, feel free to ask below or via DM!
