So apparently I broke my wife's laptop, and I have to buy it for her

We packed both laptops in one tight bag because we didn't want to carry separate bags while travelling. This brilliant optimization strategy was suggested by me, so yes, I broke it My wife has been surprisingly calm so far, which honestly scares me more than the repair cost.

It was her M1 MacBook Air 2020. Around 5 years old with ~86% battery health. We both are researchers, so the laptop's hardest job was surviving PDFs, thesis typing, 38 Chrome tabs, emotional damage from Zotero and formatting issues

No heavy editing or anything

The laptop still works somehow, but the screen is damaged and I don't trust its long-term survival anymore.

Now I'm trying to fix my mistake as cheaply as possible before my wife remembers this incident during every future argument.

Options currently:

1. Repair the display Costs around 35k. Feels difficult to justify spending that much on a 5-year-old machine with 86% battery health. Best current offer I got is around 12k if I sell/exchange it.

2. Buy Neo-Getting it around 63k after discounts + GST benefit.

3. Hunt for M2/M3/M4 deals

If I somehow get one around 75k with discount + GST benefit, maybe worth stretching the budget slightly and surviving on air and regret for few months.

Important context: We are researchers. So I have knowledge but not the money

So please guide me:

- How inferior is Neo compared to M1 for normal academic/research work?

- Which offers can actually be combined?

- Can GST benefit + student offer work together?

- Is buying Mac during Back to School and selling AirPods still financially smart?

Please help me make the least stupid financial decision after already making the first stupid decision.

Buying the m5 macbook air (24/512) for editing

After using Windows for basically my whole life, I finally got a MacBook Air.

First impressions?
This thing is ridiculously smooth. No random bloatware, no fan sounding like a jet engine, insane battery life, and the trackpad honestly feels illegal compared to most Windows laptops.

But man… the transition is humbling.

I can’t seem to find basic settings, close apps without actually closing them, and every 15 minutes I’m googling something like “how to do this and that”.

For the first time in years, I understand exactly how my parents feel when I try teaching them technology.

Mac users out here casually using gestures with 4 fingers like they’re casting spells while I’m still fighting with Finder.

Still loving it though. Feels premium as hell once you stop trying to use it like a Windows machine.

Bought this at Vijay Sales today with Student Discount (10%), Credit Card (7k) and exchanging my old dell laptop (29k). Absolutely delighted as this was my dream for almost a decade now. This is the first proper laptop that I bought for myself with my own hard earned money. I still remember getting frustrated often with my old laptops, gave me lot of troubles when I wanted to study or even during interviews. I waited for the day to get this and finally I have it in my hands. I just know that I’m gonna make the best use of it.

Planning to take Apple care too for 3 years at least as I have saved a lot of money by exchanging my old laptop. What’s your experience with Apple care? Did you guys take the 3 years option? Did anyone take yearly option until cancelled? Need suggestions on this.

Should I buy MBA M5 24GB 512gb SSD or base variant for engineering and Al/ML?

So the thing is I am an engineering student and I'm confused about which version I should buy....

But the thing is I'm thinking of buying the 24 gb ram and 512 GB SSD variant as I have a 128gb which I used with my ssd to usb c converter which works with my current laptop....Like I'm interested in Artificial intelligence and machine learning and i plan to locally run some models in my laptop and for heavy and basic model training purposes I'll probably use kaggle, colab or even AWS.... But I also want future proof my system like I know macbooks have these things called compression and swap... Like it can compress as much memory as it can to give the best performance but I'm thinking as the ram pricing is high so should give a bit of that apple tax for 24 gigs of ram to futureproof my device or would it be just a waste of money....

I'll probably buy it in the back to school offer...

And the 24 gb ram and 512 GB SSD variant is nowhere available on online stores like Amazon, croma, vijay sales etc.....

And which would be the best deal for me as a student.....

I need a macbook for development purpose, I found this listing on OLX seems like a good deal to me, what do you think
