rockandrollgarage.comThe lovely “If This World Were Mine” is trending on a music app I built, all about sharing the music you love.
Hey all! Just wanted to share a cool thing. I built a social media app called Corus for sharing the music you love and today “If This World Were Mine” by Marvin and Tammi Terrell started trending. It was posted by a cool user named Arielle and the love came flowing in from the community. I thought that was awesome because it’s a lesser known track, but so good and worth listening to if you haven’t heard it in a while.
The idea of the app is to discover music from real people again. Imagine instagram except you don’t share images or reels, only the music/art you love. You curate your ultimate playlist and follow people to hear their recommendations. Then you match with people who share the same taste and get a feed of their song picks each day. Already 47 others have shared Marvin so if you’re interested in joining, just search Marvin Gaye and follow all the others sharing their favorite tracks. Happy to answer any questions at all. Hopefully see you there :)
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough [full version on YouTube]
Bass part originally played by James Jamerson. Much has been said about his sound and style: plucking with just his index finger (“The Hook”), the Precision Bass with flatwound strings and high action, the foam mute at the bridge, the chromatic runs and frequent use of open strings etc. But rarely have I seen mentioned what is absolutely essential, at least in this tune: due to his right hand playing position with the middle, ring, and little finger resting on the pickup cover, his thumb was floating above the strings, making it very easy for him to mute the lower open strings with it.
Find the complete song on YouTube. The sheet music is available through my website.
