The Character Assassination of Jacob van Rooyen by the Coward Ken Hinkley

The Character Assassination of Jacob van Rooyen by the Coward Ken Hinkley

Will freely admit this is not an unbiased piece, but I hope it does a reasonable job laying out what I think the potential grounds for appeal are (as well as some more general partisan moaning)

Replacement for Roo

What are people's thoughts? Obviously a spot to take for someone to make 23. I think we should bring in someone capable of running the wing (or play someone like Sharp there) and play them around 50% game time in the spot. This would allow Langford to go forward around 50%.

He has shown he can take a strong contested grab and even better kick straight for goal. If he can play a metre off his defender it could work.

If not this week then it might make a great ploy come first week of finals to throw off the opposition.

Demons to appeal van Rooyen suspension

MELBOURNE has decided to appeal Jacob van Rooyen's three-game suspension at the AFL Tribunal.

The young Demon spearhead was handed the sanction after his spoiling attempt made contact with the head of Aliir Aliir during the second term of Saturday night’s clash with the Power.

The incident was assessed as careless conduct, high impact and severe impact.

van Rooyen will front the tribunal on Tuesday night.

In-demand Demon rejects free agency move, signs five-year deal

TOM SPARROW has rejected a lucrative long-term offer from Port Adelaide to sign a five-year deal to remain at Melbourne.

Sparrow, an unrestricted free agent, had been in the Power's sights all season and took his time to make his decision, while producing a career-best season under new Demons coach Steven King.

The 26-year-old has averaged 22.5 disposals and 3.7 clearances as Melbourne remains in the top-four mix ahead of the final round of the home and away season.

He had 16 touches and a goal in the Demons' 76-point win over the Power at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Demons list manager Tim Lamb said the club was thrilled to retain the 2021 premiership player.

"Tom has grown into one of the competitions most impactful midfielders, while also establishing himself as a valued leader within the club," Lamb said.

"We look forward to seeing what Tom will continue to bring to the program over the next five years."

Power coach Josh Carr all but conceded on Friday last week that his club's chase of Sparrow had failed.

"Good on him. He's had a great year and they've had a great year and they're obviously a good football club that looks like they're on the up," Port coach Josh Carr said when asked about reports that Sparrow was about to re-sign with the Demons.

"So if that's the case, then well done."

Trade discussion.

Now that we've re-signed tom sparrow which im over the moon about, on to the next step of thr trade season etc, now that bailey Humphrey has re-signed with gold coast which I'm in 2 mind frame's, yeah he's a gun player and would of been nice to have on out list, the other side is , awesome we now have picks to trade or use in the draft which is equally exciting that we would of used to Humphrey.

I'm sure calshear dear won't cost us a lot given he's out of contract and his trade value isn't all that high should he choose us. So the question is, are/do we chase zak butters, given where our list is, do we actually need him as good as he is?

MATCH REVIEW: Young Demon learns fate for swinging arm on Aliir

3 weeks…wonder if we’ll see the club challenge it to get it down to 2

Views on JVR?

I’ve rewatched it again and again, I don’t feel there was much he could do while he was in the air? Perhaps I’m wrong?

I feel the whack on Windsor was also pretty bad and no talking about that. The only difference was one was knocked out the other was not.

What do you think the MRO will come back with? If you get a week do you take that? If they come back with any more it needs to be disputed.

RHDI 6.0: Melbourne can still finish anywhere from third to ninth — every run-home scenario explained

I’ve gone through Melbourne’s remaining ladder scenarios and tried to make the final fortnight as simple as possible.

The short version: two wins guarantee a top-six finish and wildcard-weekend bye. From there, results involving Hawthorn, Brisbane and Adelaide determine whether Melbourne finishes third, fourth, fifth or sixth.

I’ve also broken down what happens if the Demons go 1–1 or 0–2, plus the five Round 23 games that matter most.

I did not expect the Freo fan to be this salty

I get it we were on the wrong end of some truly shit umpiring against GC but jeez some of them are carrying on like this is the biggest robbery. They even got a dodgy soft one to give them a chance from backchat and they stuffed it up. The Fritta mark, every freeze frame that shows the boundary line shows he was in, now they’re crying about Kozzie getting fined for staging getting a free in front of goal after they even got more goals from frees (which of course was all correct and totally correct).

They are the best team in the league, they’ve had no injuries, but instead of sitting back and just saying “yep good game, see you in finals” they have a cry about Fritta being in the car park.

And for any visiting Freo fans, yeah I know it’s not all of you, but it does appear to be the majority of media surrounding it.

Anyway, I’m having a laugh and shake of the head at their salty tears.

I like the new bald, angry Harrison Petty

Seeing him give some lip to Freo over the weekend, get in their faces, charge at the ball like a menace. I don't know if it's the shedding of the disappearing locks, but I like this new Petty that's like a raging bull.

Hope to see more of it.
