Trying to solve a problem I had selling websites to local businesses
For a long time I was doing what everyone does when they try to sell websites to local businesses. I was sending cold DMs, portfolio links, following up over and over and in most cases was ghosted.
What ended up working much better was stopping trying to explain the value and just showing people something real connected to their actual business. Now before I contact someone I already have a version of their homepage made using their actual business info, photos and reviews. Then I send them screenshots of it instead of a standard pitch.
The conversation changes immediately because they are not trying to imagine what a better website could look like for them anymore. They are looking at their own business presented in a way that already feels finished.
I also learned pretty quickly that quoting 1k-2k upfront kills a lot of deals with small businesses even when they like what I sent them. So I switched to either a small one time payment since most of the work is already done, or a monthly plan that covers hosting, edits, support and basic SEO.
The main problem after that was time. Building custom previews manually for every lead took forever. So I made a tool for myself that pulls in the business info, reviews and photos automatically, generates a personalized website draft and then writes the outreach email for me. I can still tweak everything manually but it turned something that used to take hours into a few minutes.
That tool eventually became https://pitchpin.app/
Ask me anything 😄
