Every day, more and more people show up complaining that their accounts got hacked, and the funny part is that it’s always the same excuse.

It’s bizarre what’s happening in the Microslop subs. Every day I see someone complaining that their account got hacked, then you ask why and the dumbass downloaded “Furry Hentai Promiscuous 3” from some totally sketchy and unsafe website, and now wants to blame the company for being stupid enough to do that. Like, if you want to access shady websites, at least have the decency not to use your personal computer with all your information on it. It’s like trying to rob a gang member with a butter knife he’ll probably beat you up and rob you instead. I get that a lot of people create an account and never even look at the security tab, but damn, if you don’t want to deal with that stuff, at least download things from official websites, half of these “hacks” wouldn’t even happen if people stopped downloading random garbage from shady websites.

my laptop is bricked for 30 days because my old email got deleted.

i changed my secondary email today because my old one was deleted due it it being for an organisation that i am no longer a part of. i open my laptop and it gives me an error saying that i have to reset my pin??? which would be fine if i didnt have to access my microsoft account security info to do that which is now locked for 30 days due to the secondary email change. after slamming my head into a wall i decide that my work is probably online somewhere and go ahead and attempt to factory reset my device. it asks me for a bitlocker encryption code, which i cannot access FOR 30 DAYS BECAUSE I CHANGED MY SECONDARY EMAIL, MY LAPTOP IS A PAPERWEIGHT FOR THE NEXT 30 DAYS. next week i have exams, they are primarily online and i do not have the money to buy a new laptop. im so fed up with microsoft they really just turned my laptop into useless scrap
Edit: i ended up doing a data wipe in the dell bios and am now installing linux as i should have earlier haha

Factory resetting thanks to OneDrive

OneDrive I don't like it. Also I tried deleting the app and the associated folder, I unlinked it, but I was supposed to find the hidden settings on the cloud button that say I want my stuff stored to my PC before unlinking. Anyways it made duplicate folders. I spent 4 hours trying to find the real folders by checking locations, etc, then figured out the paths was messed up so bad I needed to use the registry. Yeah, no thanks, I already spent 4 hours, Im not using the registry now. I just got this laptop, Ill just factory reset it. It was my first Windows device. I guess this is an iniatation of sorts?

Edit: Guys just cuz I had this problem doesnt mean Im too dumb for Linux, I just got this OS and I didnt even know what a registry was until yesterday. Stop gatekeeping the OS's lol. People can learn

Was trying to what was taking up space on C and oh boy...

I recently installed a dual boot system with ubuntu, which was taking less space than expected where as on Windows, my C drive would always fill up even without updates so I decided to see what is up using the spacesniffer tool and oh boy, the bloat here had me rolling on the floor.

My Microsoft account may have been hacked.

Idk what happened but I have received multiple “single-use code” requests in the last few hours. It’s on an old account and I can’t remember the password, and every time I request a reset I don’t receive anything. Is there something wrong or is Microsoft just being stupid as always? (Btw, former windows user asking. I’ve been using Linux the past few years, and I just want to be safe in case there was a breach I don’t know about)

P.S.
this is the only sub I’ve been able to post this on. I’m new to Reddit, so idk why. If you’re able to answer my question though, thank you so much!!

Microsoft forced Lenovo to put a Copilot key on my laptop. I run Linux. It does nothing. We paid for their advertisement on hardware we own.

Lenovo LOQ, Linux Mint user here. That shiny Copilot key? Completely dead. Does absolutely nothing.

Microsoft made this key mandatory for OEM certification — so Lenovo had no choice. They literally removed the right Ctrl key that existed for 30 years and replaced it with a branded Microsoft button.

EU banned IE bundling in 2009. But a permanent AI logo burned into physical hardware? Crickets.

You can uninstall software. You cannot remove a key from your keyboard.

This is hardware-level vendor lock-in and nobody's talking about it.

Can’t “disable” Windows Edge unless in Europe(?)

TLDR; Windows Edge and other features “silently” re-enabled after being disabled(?)

I want to start off by saying that I’m not some tech guru, expert, or even have a job in the field. But I do have a curiosity, and know how to Google things or watch a few YouTube videos. So again, if I say something “wrong,” please keep that in mind.

Lately, I haven’t been feeling good about all these “anti-privacy” practices by big tech, and I’m generally a private person (I don’t even have social media/deleted them after high school 10 years ago [Reddit doesn’t count]). It’s not that I want to do bad things, I just don’t want my dick pics on the cloud, at best 🤷🏽‍♂️ that can be data-mined in the future like a sort of “new-age” fossil.

Naturally, that led me down to just trying to figure out how to make my devices and tech more secure and private, at the operating level, and even further as I learn. This has led me down a rabbit hole of home-networking, the awareness of data brokers, etc. Again, not an expert. But basically, YouTube and Google implied, or I at least assumed, that I would be able to turn some of these features off as a middle ground, before just changing OS’s, devices, etc. This led me to researching and carefully following de-installation guides, and even “registry edit” guides I could make, or even run through a 3rd party app everyone else uses, and change/disable some things.

I opted for the “basic” installer, and a few “extra” tidbits like disabling Edge and telemetry. I even followed other guides and downloaded an AI-free, light browser called Brave. I even reduced my 16GB Ram PC from having a 50% utilization in background processes just from being on, to 25% after all the edits I made, and restarting my laptop.

Again, not an expert, but I’m pretty sure I had experienced some degrees of success. However, come to find out, Microsoft Edge was “re-enabled” silently, even though I ALSO turned off auto-updates at the registry level, at least for a year. I think I even set that for “automatic / security” updates that are not something you should be normally able to toggle. This is insane, and when I Googled it again, that’s when Google basically told me “get f*****,” and that I had to “trick my device” into thinking I was from Europe, where it’s ILLEGAL for Windows to do the exact thing they just did to me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Month long customer service nightmare.

Around April 24th my families entire shared OneDrive plan all dropped down to 5GB rather than the 1TB that had been paid for (and should have remained active for another 6-7 months.)

My entire families computers, phones, etc. are connected to OneDrive. So, when the service stopped, it caused massive frustration across all of our devices, etc. One of my family members uses their Hotmail address as their primary, and had to buy an additional 100GB of storage for that account so they would continue receiving/sending emails as the storage cap was artificially exceeded.

I opened a support ticket on April 26th.

I spent the next entire next month chatting and emailing from two of the family accounts DAILY getting sent around in a circle to keep re-providing a proof of purchase (because their system said there was no active subscription) and re-provide logs over, and over, and over again through broken systems that were not working properly. (I'm a programmer, this wasn't a me problem.)

By the 15th of May, I asked for a supervisor from both accounts. The support agent simply stopped responding to me entirely.

On the 16th, I received the above email where they finally acknowledged the problem was theirs and service had been restored. I still wanted to speak to a supervisor to explain my frustration with the entire process of how I was redirected between 6 different support agents that weren't talking to each other, was directed to open ticket after ticket after ticket, bounced between departments, and how their macOS "Contact Support" option from inside the app doesn't actually send the logs, etc.

The agent never told me the service had been restored. Just that automated email. In my mind, that means the support tickets should still be open as I never acknowledges it was working again.

It is now the 20th. This is absolutely unacceptable customer service.

Microsoft forced to bring back Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM as it scrambles to keep prices down amidst RAM crisis: New device fails to meet Copilot+ PC requirements

The reason PCs can barely run shit is because of AI. stop trying to put ai on it anyways.

Microslop wont let me switch emails forcing me to use my personal account to sign in to my schools SSO.

Yeah bro, but what if I want to switch accounts? No. Okay, ill sign out of live. Still makes me sign in with my personal email. Literally no option to change accounts and have to open a private window. This shouldn't be this hard...

Never felt so good to use my home PC

Using Linux Mint now. It's amazing.

No backslash dir paths.

Can find home dir with ~/. Installed everything within 1hr.

No software I use professionally doesn't support the OS.

I was able to "set up" the OS in 3 minutes. No login, 2FA, key BS, etc. No "Please wait.." for 10 minutes while it does ... something?

Symlink a 2nd drive to ~/DDrive. Objectively better than what Windows provides.

Tilix is pretty close to iTerm2 with ZSH.

Did I mention no backslash dir paths? That's big to me. The key placement on a qwerty is not made for this.

Just want you guys to know I'm loving life over here.

If I spent another day watching Windows take 8 seconds to open Aseprite (a caveman's art program), I would've flipped.

You don't need Mac, you just need not Windows.

See ya after I make 50 million dollars on my non Windows machine!

EDIT: And yeah Claude Code stopped essentially deleting tokens thank god. Enjoy your slow Claude Code you sloppy Windows users!

Dumbass stupid Windows Xbox controller support

I have had this issue for YEARS. I came from Xbox to my gaming PC and so I use a series X controller cause I’m used to it but holy FUCK Windows cannot handle it. It’s Microsoft hardware with Microsoft software how can it not work.

It constantly disconnects every 30 minutes or so or the controller will just turn off and this happens ON BLUETOOTH AND WHEN PLUGGED IN. If anything wired is somehow WORSE because for some reason it just gets confused and will disconnect and reconnect randomly.

AND to top it all off I run a dual-booted system with Fedora Linux and I have NO PROBLEMS USING IT IN LINUX IT NEVER DISCONNECTS.

HOW CAN A MICROSOFT CONTROLLER WORK BETTER ON LINUX THAN WINDOWS WHAT THE FUCK

Anyways if anyone has any suggestions that’d be great, otherwise I’m gonna throw this controller against a wall and buy a cheaper, better quality, hall-effect controller. (Non-Microshit controller recommendations would also be appreciated).

I am done with Microsoft

So for almost 2 months I have played Microsoft's little game of oh just verify your account and you will hear back within 48hrs.

It all started when Microsoft through an algorithm I suppose, locked my account to include my Xbox gamertag that has 18 yrs worth of purchases and playtime. This happened once last year in September so I followed their lead and got my account back, added all new contact info emails and numbers. But when they locked me out this time it reverted to asking for old information that I obviously don't have. The email they wanted was ironically permanently locked by them 3 yrs ago because someone was spamming my login attempting to access it.

So for a while now I've played their game of escalate to this person, escalate to another person yada yada. I have verified my account over and over for them. Two reps have told me that I'm questions were answered perfectly. One told me he couldn't find any reason at all for the account being locked. Xbox reps finally did another escalation and gave me a link that they guaranteed would work if this didn't. The issue I've had all along is that even though the original email was changed last year, they are sending the link to it to change password etc and gain entry. I assume this as I haven't received a single response from the verification step that I've taken every time I was asked to, even when showing them that it hasn't worked.

Finally today I got in touch with whoever has my old cellphone number and was able to get back into my account with the verification code that was sent to them (thank you and fuck Microsoft). When I logged in it offered to delete all aliases and start over which I clicked. Then it said oh wait keep a spare email before moving forward (only 1 works). I then get hit with a wall to verify code on the email that doesn't work. Manage to get around this and change the email to a known working email.

They now say no changes can be made until 6/18 including adding 2fa even when using their app. I'm at my end with Microsoft. All this for nothing at all honestly. I haven't done anything wrong. Was unaware of the tactics I should play to keep this from happening like already having 2fa and turning off email and text codes to keep spamming from happening. I'm not super literate with computers like many on here so I could be missing something.

This has been a royal pain in my ass over absolutely nothing and I still have to wait another month to truly see if I'll have access back. Given that my emails showed today as updated last year, yet it asked for old deleted ones on the verification when I was fully locked out, I will not be returning to the Xbox platform. It's sad to see this being a life long Xbox gamer. My intentions are to build a gaming PC but first research how well Linux will run it with steam and of course modding communities for games such as borderlands 2. I've seen people bashing Xbox and Microsoft for quite a while now for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately I just got mine and will not be returning.

Microsoft broke my account, won't fix it, won't respond, still charges me.

Error Code: Drowned. Minecraft Bedrock. Nintendo Switch. For weeks.

Can't log into my Microsoft account. No Realms, no Marketplace, nothing. Tried everything. Unlinked, relinked, DNS, restarts. Nothing.

Tested on my brother's PS5 with the same account. Same error. So it's not my Switch, not my network, not Minecraft. It's Microsoft's servers being broken for my specific account.

Contacted support. Their bot — their actual bot — told me "chat and phone support are not available for sign-in issues.

Realms subscription? Still being charged. Every month. That part works perfectly.

Weeks of silence. Zero human response. A bot that actively refuses to help. And a subscription that keeps billing me for a service I can't access.

Microsoft everyone. 👏
