Using a Local Account in W11 instead of a Msoft Account

I am so so so angry. Just got a new PC and in the process of getting it set up. I was forced to create Microsoft account to get started but was able to make a Local Account and that is all I am using. I signed out but didn't yet delete the MS account. Maybe I knew deep down I would need it later.

I bought a 1-time purchase of Office 2024 to avoid the subscription baloney. I was annoyed that I had to buy it via the MS account. But bought it, installed it, and signed out of MS account again. Since when do you need an account to buy software. I have never needed to in the past. Go to website->pay money->download->install-> use. (admittedly I haven't bought software in a while)

today I went to use Word and could not. I had to login to MS account (not an easy thing, the login sequence is so stupid), enter the key and activate (even though I "installed" it yesterday while logged in. The product is tied to the account. So I can't even freakin use Word without being logged into the account!!!! that is making me very angry!!

So angry I am actually considering looking into Word/Excel alternatives so I can throw out the $191 dollars worth of crap and sign out and delete the MS account. But I hate change and I love Word/Excel so I probably won't. maybe this rant will help.

Ask for help I did, moderators block it, they do. r/WindowsHelp

Windows powershell, as it has to, does not do what I tell it, why isn’t there any run always option…
Naturally I would screenshot, and ask on Reddit, as searching does not work. I see Microsoft help and post a simple yet viable description title and picture.
Ai moderation on their subreddit immediately flags it, probably because I was new. I was thinking that moderation would let it through as it is a windows problem and the rules did not state anything against powershell.
I look at my phone an hour later, no dm, no message, just blocked without reason.
A windows help subreddit that does not help, typical.

Forced to add additional authentication to my outlook email.

Today I signed into my outlook email which I use daily and have done for multiple years across many devices, when all of a sudden Microsoft decides “Actually, you now need to tie this to a new email and we will send you a code every single time you want to log in from a different client or location.”

Fucking rat bastards, there is no option to skip or continue without doing this. An additional pain in my arse for what reason? I don’t want this extra bs, I frequently sign in from different devices and locations, I don’t want to be babysat from Microsoft. It is a fucking email, not nuclear weapon codes, it already has 2FA but apparantly that is no longer enough. Where does it end? Next year they will be asking me to go out and get a tattoo on my inner rectum which they will scan from a photo so they know that it is still me. All so I can see a reciept for something I bought online, or verify another fucking code for the millionth time for some other piece of shit website.

I hate the state of the modern internet. Take me back to a simpler time, I’d rather be responsible for my own safety and be more likely to get phished or hacked over this shite any day, it is getting beyond a joke.

Microsoft will now send its own engineers to work inside other companies

Microsoft has announced a new unit called Microsoft Frontier Company. It is investing 2.5 billion dollars in it. The main idea is simple. Microsoft will place its own engineers inside customer companies to build and deploy AI systems for them.

Reason

Microsoft's commercial chief Judson Althoff said customers are at very different stages and are still figuring out AI. There is pressure too. CNBC reports that Microsoft's Copilot assistant has not caught on well in businesses, and the stock is down 21 percent this year. Competitors are doing the same thing. Amazon committed 1 billion dollars just two days earlier. OpenAI and Anthropic started their own versions back in May.

Big Shift

The shift is clear. Organizations are moving from building the smartest models to proving who can deliver real results inside real companies.

Analysis

If we analyze, we can see Microsoft chose hands-on service work over its old habit of selling software and walking away. That likely means slower and costlier revenue, but much deeper customer relationships. Customers get expert help, though they also tie themselves closer to one vendor.

What do you think?

Would you let another company's engineers sit inside your business? And is this really new, or just consulting with a fancier name?

I think, we actually need to stop hating booth OS

Every operating system has its flaws. For example, Linux presents challenges regarding ease of use, driver issues, kernel instability, or incompatibility with certain programs. Windows has issues with RAM usage, background processes, and updates. But we shouldn't just complain about these problems. We should fix them. Windows can be optimized, and Linux can be fixed using the command line. We should respect one another rather than fighting; after all, we are all human. Stop hating both sides.

I am trying to build a local, private, AI-first operating system and want to get y'all's thoughts.

Hi! Long time lurker here. As the title says, I am trying to build a local, private, AI-first operating system and want to see if there is any interest.

Running local models right now is great, but the AI is basically trapped inside a chat window or a terminal. It doesn’t know what files you are working on, it can’t organize your folders, and it can’t actually automate your computer. It’s just an isolated app. We have Claude Cowork, but you are bound by Anthropic/Claude.

I want to take the AI out of the chat box and bake it directly into the desktop environment.

I’m calling the project Theia, built on Linux for ARM chips. I would say there are three main benefits:

  1. OS-level access: The model can actually interact with your system, manage your files, and automate daily tasks natively.
  2. Total privacy: Microsoft Copilot has system access, but it tracks you. Theia runs 100% offline. No cloud, no telemetry, no forced updates.
  3. None of the Windows bloat: No more asking you to make an account just to sign in to Windows. No more wasting RAM and all the bloat associated with Windows. No more ads or Copilot being shoved into your face.

Before I lock myself in a room for a year to code the core of this, I want to see if this is something the local LLM community actually cares about. Do you guys prefer keeping your models separated as apps, or do you want an OS built entirely around them?

I put up a quick page to measure real interest. The page is https://theia-os.pages.dev/

Would also love to get your guys' thoughts in the comments section below!

My experience with Bazzite

So, I read some comments on Reddit talking about Bazzite being a good Linux distro for gaming so I decided to give it a go. I downloaded the .iso, created a bootable usb-key and installed it besides my existing Windows 11 installations.

I've been hearing so many good stories about how stable Linux is. But I managed to crash it within 2 minutes. All it took was to enable HDR support for my main display. This has always worked under Windows but it doesn't under Bazzite. It does work for the OLED-TV that is also hooked up to the PC.

Ok, no HDR support for my main display, I can live with that. I proceeded to log in to Steam. I thought I'd just add the drives were my Steam games are installed in order to be able to start them from Steam. Nope. NTFS is not supported. I can browse my drives and see the game files but this is not enough for Bazzite.

Apparently, there is NO file-system that is supported on both Windows and Linux. You can run Steam games but, apparently, you'll have to re-format your games-drive and re-download your games in order to play them. If you do that, you can probably no longer play your games under Windows. So, creating a dual boot situation is not that useful if you care about gaming.

At some point I had some errands to run. I went outside but left my computer on. I came back to find the computer had powered off so I powered it back on. Now my keyboard was completely unresponsive. The RGB does not even light up. Turns out my USB-port was destroyed.

I rebooted my machine and booted it into Windows 11. My main screen didn't look to good, as if someone had washed it with bleach. Went into the display settings and turned off HDR support. Now my screen looks alright. Turned it back on and the screen went bad again. Conclusion: HDR on main display: destroyed.

All of this after just a couple of hours of Bazzite. What else can I expect? Is it even smart to keep using it?

Windows' market share is below 60% for the first time, while Linux's market share is at a yearly high

Linux market share is 4.39 percent. But there is 21.45 percent unknown. I think majority of them are Linux User. If only the anti-cheat issue in those online games were resolved, seeing 10% figures would be well within reach.

why is microsoft support the most useless thing to exist?

you’d think being a multi trillion dollar company, these people would at least try to help customers use their useless AI integrated products—but no. i have to talk to AI and blank discussion forums.

oh my god.

Volume thing in windows 11

I updated to window 11 recently, safe to say that it’s shit and i hate it, this shit took my favourite feature
In windows 10 there used to be this thing where you see the audio playing and you can pause it without leaving the tab you’re using. (Second picture)
Now it’s this minimalistic number thing that serves the very minimum of purpose (first picture)

Is there a way to play with some settings and get the audio with the same function? I don’t want to switch tabs to change the music and end up in a 5 minute loop of my laptop glitching and lagging while playing a fucking youtube video in the background

(Not sure if im posting in the right subreddit or using the right flare, if im wrong an assistance would be appreciated)

Why does Bing Search suck at LinkedIn?

I often look up people's LinkedIn profiles as part of my job search, but they never show up in Bing! Microsoft OWNS LINKEDIN- it should be the FIRST thing that comes up when I search someone's FIRST+LAST + JOB TITLE.

Why am I having to scroll around to find their LinkedIn account? Or I get here's a link 30+ people who have a similar name. OH you know exactly who you are looking for- well HERES: "30+ Dred Scotts accounts" - when I want Fred Shots.

Google always has it right at the top- easy peasy.

Microsoft- you own BOTH- MAKE IT BETTER!!!!! I don't care about Freddy's personal shooting blog- I'm looking for a professional profile of a completely different person.

Seriously wtf.

Sorry, rant over. Anyone else have this problem?

Why is windows networking so bad?

I logged into my windows tonight. I dual boot, can't even remember why now but it started with needing the access the network share on my linux device. Its a samba share, on a ubuntu machine. Works fine connecting from cachyos. But windows keeps telling me the password is wrong?? WTF is this? Its the exact same credential's I login with on cachy but windows dislikes it. What the hell is this? I literally spent so long troubleshooting this i forgot why i originally needed to connect to the network share in the first place.
