Mid hammer Steel Legion

Mid hammer Steel Legion

Been working on this army for a little less than a year. Most I’ve ever painted and happy with the results so far. Hopefully by mid next year I’ll have a fully painted army. All metal minis and classic tanks other than the 3 castellans in the bottom left.

Red scorpions reinforcements zoom in!

we have an ongoing badab campagin going on for the last two years. And I figured it was time for me to pull the trigger and finish these landspeeders I picked up over the past year. I got them on flea markets for like 10 bucks a piece. Now I have some transportation for my scouts and some QRF to intervene against all these tax dodging traitors!

Demo man!

One of the nice things about playing imperial agents and inq28 is that random models fit in nicely as henchmen. I don't have much left over from when I collected as a kid but the 90s metal minis will always be my go to.

Hello everyone, I've never played a tabletop wargame before, only really painted warhammer. Is 3rd edition a good way to learn/play?

Hi, I'm steve, For context, I've been painting for about 2 years, but am currently curious about playing. I'm not to fond of the idea of the modern 40k, so I would like to learn 3rd. But do lots of people still play older editions?

I'm in the UK, a town called Hatfield( should I fet lucky and find a local to play with!)

The White Consuls have arrived!

The start of my 4th Company is here. Just waiting on some decals and need to paint banners. Then it’s on to more vehicles.

How much do people use modern minis in midhammer

Just a general question regarding people’s experiences when using current 40k minis in midhammer games.

I get there’s levels people enjoy, and I’m not here to yuck people’s yum. Much like The Old World, some people love seeing older pewter from a bygone age. Some people like to see new minis using actual proper rules. I’m a big of both!

I’m just curious on other people’s experiences with it, either personal or second hand. As I’m doing nids 4th using 5th rules, I have a lot of leeway in my codex for making suitable representations (leaping dual Scything talon warriors for von ryan leapers, etc).

There’s a few minis which do not have a direct count as, due to new minis fulfilling a new role in the next codex (tervigons, venomthropes etc) models getting a glow up and what not. Some could use a few tweaks to make them match the model. I’m just curious what people do?

Just avoid using them? Its not like the 4th nids book needs much to have a great game as its a very permissible and powerful ruleset already. Im sure armies like chaos marines are the same, no one needs venomcrawlers really!

Houseruling? Using points values from similar units

Straight transfer of rules? Ok for models introduced before the big changes of 8th/the primaris introduction

I’m wanting to avoid any feels bads moments, so just wanting to gain actual opinions and experiences

Assault on Black Reach Captain

I painted this guy over the course of 2 days!
In my Chapters Lore, the Silver Hammers, this is going to be the depiction I use for “Aegis Voss”.
He served as the Iron Cardinal (a role comparable to Chapter Master), from late M34 to mid-late M35.

Advice for a fun 4th Edition Night Lords army?

Hey there! I'm building up some Night Lords that I'm gonna hop into 4th with. Any advice on how to create a list for them? I got a pretty helpful comment on the Night Lords sub earlier too, but I wanted to see what y'all think! I also own a 4th Ed Codex, but several people have told me to get a 3.5 one, is it worth it?

After 23 years the Command Squad arrives...!

Sorry for the phone quality "light box" (i.e. my painting lamp and a white shelf 🤣)

I played 40k briefly when I was 12-15, at the tail end of 3rd and start of 4th edition. Last year I got back into it and started playing a few games with a friend (coincidentally the same who introduced me to 40k when we were kids!). Dug out my old models and love that I now have the patience for painting (and money...) to actually build the collection I wanted.

But anyway... Here's my old 3rd edition command squad I had stored in a box in the loft for nearly 25 years. And 6 months of painting later (I just had my first kid... So scraping together about 30-60 mins of time for painting a day is tough) they have finally made it to the table.

Just really wanted to share them with some people who might appreciate them! Enjoy! For the EMPEROR!

(Yes I know... Drill the barrels... 😅)

I used https://youtu.be/ye-Ytit1Fmk?is=5zCUy9GvxobCFLRj by Miniscape as a rough tutorial for the Techmarine & https://youtu.be/g?is=rQtsCU7C9iUbJUHu by Miniscape for the Apothecary.

Older editions and videos/guides

I'm particularly interested in the older editions of 40k, specifically 3rd, 5th, and 7th.

Are there particular sites and youtube channels or specific people online I can look out for, for guides/how-to/game plays I can observe to learn more about each of those systems?

Just finished my this midhammer deathwing terminator

I bought my buddy’s old dark angel army for a great price, been spending hours stripping paint with LA Awesome and a toothbrush. The smell of that degreaser almost makes me nauseous at this point lol. But finally getting to the point where I can start repainting them. Zooming in I see I have a lottt of room to improve, which just motivates me more but I do see some details I’m fairly proud of too.

Also I realized he put the crux terminatus on the wrong side on all of them but I can live with that.

I honestly love the old sculpts and smaller scales. Primaris scale feels borderline action figure to me. I know it’s insane levels of nostalgia bias but midhammer just feels more like “warhammer 40k model” and less “random sci-fi toy”. I know it’s kinda dumb but that’s just how I feel.

Kasrkin ready to Kasr for their kin.

Finished off the squad's special weapons and leader, got em all based. I bought these right away when they came out, and they've patiently waited all these years for me to start painting again. Hope I did them justice.

4th Edition Orks Army?

Hello and welcome to the most esoteric/edge-case post you'll see this week!

A buddy and I who have played 40k off and I since the late 90s played our first "patrol" level game. With 5th Edition rules. (I'm using the 4th Ed Orks Codex) We settled on 400 points. Tyranid vs Lamenters. It was an absolute blast.

I road that hype towards the Armageddon box - At some point I'll probably part with the Marines half, but that's not what you're here for.

My question: Does anyone have a suggestion for recent models proxying for 4th edition Orks? Boyz, Grots & Warboss are easy. Any folks who've played for a while have suggestions for the Bigboss, Painboy or Bannermob? I'm also not sure what the closest Wartrakk and Big Mek equivalents are.

While you're here, if we play some escalation games, probably scaling to 750 and then 1000 points, any suggestions for fleshing the list out?

Thanks for your thoughts fellow Gits :)

4th Edition Gets Hot

Weird question for the Warhammer veterans. I'm reading the 4th Ed rulebook for some games of 4th Ed on Tabletop Simulator with friends. The Gets Hot rule on page 30 mentions; 1 shot=1s hurt, 2 shots=1s and 2s hurt..... Then 3 shots=1s 2s AND 3s hurt.

Does anyone remember anything that has Gets Hot and has 3 shots? Because I'm drawing a blank. It's been a long time and I'm probably just forgetting something

Mordian Iron Guard

Made some Mordians out of a few different sprues/kits I had lying around when the urge to make them hit me. Thumbing through the 3rd ed rulebook and codex is going to have me skipping through too many projects at this rate 😂

6th Ed Astral Claws Tactical Squad

The first of two tactical squads for my 6th Edition Astral Claws force that are getting used for a local Badab escalation campaign!

While not exactly old/mid-hammer models.... I wanted to kind of have the look of Mk7 Marines, but didn't want their old small scale. So I decided to use the Heresy Mk.3 bodies, and gave them the Mk. 7 helmets and arms/ bolters (which surprisingly fit very well!). The belt fed bolters are from the old Chaos Marines, but with the Chaos icons scratched off.

The Lion vambrace is from an AOS kit, and the plan is for all regular Sargeants to have it (along with the gold helmet). While Veterans will get an extra Lion knee pad as well.

The missile launcher I think is my favourite of the bunch. The launcher itself is from the new Scout kit (it had some nicer details), and the backpack was converted. I took the old missile launcher backpack, and cut away the stowed arm and repositioned it to be reloading (while giving it a spare missile I had lying around).

Only thing I wish came out a bit better was the pigments on the legs. But it was first time ever using them, so bit of a learning experience.

Oh... and don't mind the one marine with red eyes... they were the initial test scheme model aha. As much as I liked the red, green definitely was the better choice in my opinion.

4th edition army list example and mystery

I found an old list (4th edition) of warhamner 40k game. Dark Angels (mine) vs Khorne berserkers (opponent). "Presidio" (Secure Area?) I think was the scenario (City of Death expansion?). I thought it was nice to share it, even if it is in Italian. For a few days now, however, I have been trying to understand why I hand-marked those scores at the end, does anyone remember if there were any additional points that can explain the total? Units marked with an x were annihilated, those with a diagonal slash were halved. By hand it is written which units they have eliminated.
