1000 sqft Shipping Container Home in Seattle - A Creative Two-Story Design (six 20 ft containers)

Located in Seattle, Washington, this inventive 1,000-square-foot container house turns six used 20-foot shipping containers into a compact yet highly personalized home. Four containers form the lower level while two are stacked above, creating a two-story layout that preserves much of the original containers' industrial character on the outside. Inside, a coastal and nautical design theme gives the compact rooms personality, while portable furniture and thoughtful planning help make the limited floor area feel more flexible. The home also includes a large outdoor patio that effectively extends its living space and was designed with the possibility of future expansion, illustrating how modular container construction can combine affordability, adaptability, and unconventional architectural character. https://www.prefabcontainerhomes.org/2021/07/1000-sqft-shipping-container-home.html

Modular help in Southern NJ!

Hello! I’m just looking for a process timeline to build a modular. I’ve scoured numerous posts on this thread and others and just wondering if someone could help point me in a general direction! This is my first time ever really talking about buying a house, let alone building one. My parents are also not around so I don’t really have someone to turn to about this stuff.

  1. What should the general process be to build a modular home in NJ? I don’t own land currently, but I’ve looked at a few properties, but I’m scared to pull the trigger.

  2. Who do you contact first? Bank, GC, realtor, township/municipality for permits?

  3. How do you know how much is good to have saved, without getting a pre approval from a lender?

  4. Any recommendations for modular companies? I’ve only spoken with one (Supreme Modular in Hammonton) who I felt was helpful, but I’ve since heard some negative things about recently.

Again, please be kind to me and thank you everyone for any assistance/guidance!!

I built a free directory of 33 prefab & modular home manufacturers, with a delivery map and 98 YouTube reviews

Been deep in the prefab rabbit hole for a while and kept running into the same problem: no single place to compare manufacturers side-by-side, see who actually delivers to your state, and find honest video reviews that aren't just manufacturer promo content.

So I built one: modernist.live

What's in it:

  • 33 manufacturers profiled: price range, sq footage, delivery type, certifications, lead time
  • Delivery map — drop a pin and see which builders ship to your area
  • 98 field reviews pulled from Kerry Tarnow, Levi Kelly Tours, Living Big In A Tiny House, and Kirsten Dirksen — so you can watch the actual walkthroughs before you contact anyone

Happy to answer questions about any of the manufacturers listed. I've watched a lot of videos at this point.
