Hello,

I have an internet with speed of 250Mbps and Mullvad is always ON for my devices. Lately, I noticed a lot of buffering specially for 4K content. So I run a speed test, and even if I am connecting to a server in the same country, the speed is fluctuating and does not exceed 98Mbps.

The buffering goes away the moment I turn off Mullvad.

Is this a general problem or maybe only me? I will not speak about servers in other countries as the speed follows to below 50Mbps.

I've been using Mullvad for about 5 years with no complaints. For reasons related to the recent news, I'm curious about potential alternatives. I chose Mullvad initially because it's cheap, it hasn't gotten caught storing data, and the UI is about as simple as possible.
I'm not really interested in discussing the incident itself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thx thx thx

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions. My subscription doesn't go up until October so I've got some time to look into the other services mentioned. I've liked my time with Mullvad, shame I gotta move on.

Does anyone know if the Stealth/Obfuscation features on Mullvad is enough to bypass the censorship?

I've heard that some people had issues even with Obfuscation enabled so I just wanted to make sure Mullvad would be enough

This has only started happening over the past few days so I'm not sure if it's related to an update, if it's a bug or a feature, etc.

I usually keep my VPN on 24/7 and just forget that it's even there because I need it to look at anything on social media nowadays. The past couple of days I've come across a 'verify your age' post and then noticed that the VPN has switched itself off.

It's only a matter of closing whatever app I'm on, switching the VPN back on, and opening it again. But I don't really like opening the apps at all without a VPN because I want it to always think I'm in the US or wherever I'm pretending to be 😅

I guess I just need to get in the habit of checking that it's still on but I have a dumb ADHD brain lol. Is this happening to anyone else? Is it normal?

I use all.DNS.mullvad.net for DNS blocks - I see that the reddit is one of the major social media that is not blocked - any reason behind it ?

I'll be going to China for a couple of weeks and unfortunately my course enrollments for my university is also in this period so I need a reliable vpn to catch all my courses (the timing is very competitive).

I will also be using an esim just in case the vpn stopped working. Anyone have experience using mullvad in china? What are the fastest servers to connect to?

Sites I need for research, shopping, games, even reddit just detect the vpn being on and don't let me in or don't load. I understand they are blocking known public ips, is there some way around this that doesnt mean im turning the vpn on and off every 10 minutes??

Hey, quick question about Mullvad's 5-device limit.

If I use one account on up to 5 devices, are those devices in any way linked from the outside? Like, could an ISP or any else tell that theses connections belong to the same Mullvad account?

Or are all 5 devices basically treated as completely separate connections with no shared identifier that would make them related?

Just trying to understand how it works technically.

When I use Mullvad on Windows 11, the connection drops after about 25 minutes to an hour on any server. The kill switch then activates, and the VPN reconnects. The app is updated, I’ve tried different ports and all anti-censorship methods, and the only settings enabled are “Quantum resistance” and the DNS content blockers (Daita is off).

Getting censured on this sub is crazy. Even if you agree with the CEO’s actions, why not let users talk about it? The only other old post that the mods have not deleted is the one defending the CEO lol.

I wanted to understand why that happens. Is that because youtube blocks when it sees a VPN connection? If so, why other providers work? My friend has no problem with another provider being in the same country as me.

We all know what's been happening the last few days with respect to the rollout. The tried and true Netherlands is no longer working anymore and I'm not about to give my information any time soon.

What nearby exit node is workable

Recently I realized there's an option to filter the servers to only show Mullvads owned servers and hide their rented servers. I assume using these servers comes with a bit higher safety than using rented servers: the problem: All owned servers in my country get blocked on youtube unless you login, and embedded videos don't even work even if you are logged in.

I want to use an IP from my homecountry though for daily browsing to avoid issues with accounts/logins. So: Is there any different way like a script or something to circumvent Youtubes block which says "you might be a bot please login"?

Forgive me for my ignorance, but can someone please explain to me why this recent donation is a bad thing (specifically for us as users)? I am non-Swedish and dont know anything about the guy he donated to; however, other than disagreeing with the move politically, why/does this affect us as users?

Does this imply any less privacy/online security for us?
