Murdle Book - Liar/Truth statements feel like "trial and error"

I cant shake this feeling like these 1 liar, 2 truths statements are simply a "trial and error" type. Dont get me wrong, there are some examples where you can immediately tell that they contradict each other but more often I see myself simply running a "trial and error" on which one is false and which ones aren't. I will place a F,T,T - T,F,T and T,T,F scenarios and just run them visually through the grid. Sometimes that is a bit hard so i will use a pencil and visualize the scenario but this just feels wrong and not how logic puzzles should be done. I am comparing this to Puzzle Barons Logic Puzzles app. I have solved a bunch of puzzles there and not one of them had this "true/false"shit. Also, all of them were solvable with just deduction based on the grid. I am curious what are your thoughts on this matter. Am i simply doing these wrong or what? Does it feel a bit like cheating to you as well?

Book 1 Puzzle 47 No one's lying!

Please sleuth gurus, could someone explain what I'm missing.

Everyone's telling the truth. Or everyone can be the liar. I worked out who the killer must be based on the hint, but I don't understand how to get there.

What's wrong with my chart

puzzles with explanations where one person lies

I have now reached the puzzles where explanations are given, and where one of the explanations is incorrect because that person is lying, but I keep getting stuck. I fill in the clues and evidence, but then I get completely lost. I am curious about your methods for the explanations and hope that I can move forward with them. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Today's murdle solution!

I am not sure if we can post solution, but here it is anyways:

  1. We make one contradictory statement as our hypothesis: Brick was in the parking lot.
  2. Then we move on to our first clue, a note which translates to: Kindness was discovered buried beneath bags of beans. So kindness, the weapon, was in the bean room.
  3. According to the suspects' profiles provided in the mansion, the second shortest person is Sir Rulean, so according to the clue, he had a butter knife.
  4. Dr. Crimson is left handed (again, according to the information given in the mansion), so she was in the bathroom.
  5. Lady Violet was indoors, which is the bean room. This means that Lady Violet used kindness as the weapon.
  6. With this, we conclude that Sir Rulean was either in the bathroom or in the courtyard, and neither of these can be true, because Dr. C is in the bathroom, and from our hypothesis, we ruled it out to be false.
  7. This concludes that our hypothesis was wrong, and Sir Rulean was in the courtyard.
  8. After clearing out our notebook, and with the above clue crossed out in our notebook, we move on to the first clue again: kindness was in the bean room, and thus Lady Violet used kindness as the weapon, and she was in the bean room.
  9. Sir Rulean used the butter knife as his weapon, and he was in the courtyard.
  10. Two places are left now, the bathroom and the parking lot. The brick cannot be in the parking lot, so it must be in the bathroom.
  11. Dr. C was in the bathroom, and the brick was in the bathroom, so Dr. C used the brick as her weapon.
  12. We check out the remaining boxes in our notebook, and we are left with Principal Applegreen in the parking lot, with poisoned coffee as his weapon.

what storyline/type of storyline would you really like to see included in murdle?

the murdle books we have so far have tackled so many different settings and storylines. midnight movies, drakonia, (my personal fav) tektopia, and soon a beach (SUMMER 2027 COME FASTER)...but they could do so much more.

i might be biased, but as a music lover myself, i'd love to see a musical storyline of some kind in murdle.

not only would it allow for more opportunities for news locations/weapons (mosh pit/getting crushed under a huge amplifier HELLO??) or suspects (my oc, rockstar larimar!! check her out here), it might also provide a great commentary on the issues of the music industry (like how tektopia was one, on the digital age and AI).

i'd love to hear your guys' ideas! ty!!

Murdle Vol. 2 is just the same?

So I really loved the first Murdle book, and as someone who has already done and loved logic puzzles I really breezed through the first section and really liked the added difficulty in section 2 and then a lot in section 3, and was slightly disappointed by the fact that they reused the difficulty layer from 2 but still happy in section 4!

My mom saw that I liked the book and got me the next, but now I have to do puzzles that are really easy again, and I’m looking through the rest of the book and it’s just repeating the same difficulty progression as the last! The mystery isn’t as strong in the second book and they repeat most of the jokes! Should I just skip past the easy puzzles? They make me not want to solve the book because the lying ones are really tedious. Does anyone else feel this way?

A little math lesson for those new to Murdle, plus additional tips

The mini Murdle already has some good tips, but it can be confusing. I know it took me a long time to get logic puzzles and how they work. So I'm taking you back to high school math.

Let's take a clue for example. "A metal weapon was carried by a left-handed person."

A=A, B=B, or a thing is itself. Sir Rulean=Knight or Blue eyes. The chainsaw=metal. You know that if the Duchess is the only left-handed suspect, the clue about a left-handed person must be referring to her. Same for the chainsaw. Duchess Vermilion has the chainsaw.

A does not = B. If Vermilion has the chainsaw, then Sir Rulean did not have the chainsaw.

C=D. The rug was at the cliffs.

If A=B and B does not equal C, A does not equal C. So now we look at what we know. If the Duchess has the chainsaw and the rug was at the cliffs, then the chainsaw was not at the cliffs and neither was Vermillion.

If either A=C or B=C, then A does not equal B. Either/or clues can give you a lot of information. If Vermilion was at the cliffs or the chainsaw was at the cliffs, then Vermillion did not have the chainsaw because of she did, they would both be true

Tips:

Always start with what you know. Put a check with the straightforward clues and an x in any other box that does not apply (or circles or different colors or dots, whatever your system is).

Think about what else the clue is telling you and what it rules out. If a left-handed person carried a weapon, what does that say about the right-handed person?

I always fill in my grid as I go. So if a clue gives me new information, I compare that to what I already have and what else it tells me.

Save either/or clues for the end. "Either Sir Rulean was at the docks or Sister Lapis was at the cliffs." will be more clear once you have more information about which weapon they had and the location of the weapons.

Statements: start by looking for contradictions. Does a statement directly contradict the grid? Or do two statements contradict each other?

Finally, I've found that with very few exceptions that if I've filled in a lot of the grid before getting to the suspects' statements, I've made a mistake somewhere and I need to recheck it.

I hope this helps!

New to Murdle

I love trying new hobbies and recently discovered Murdle. I decided to try out the online puzzles to see if I would enjoy logic puzzles before committing to a book. You guys, I've been trying to solve the daily puzzles for 4 days now and I never get anything right except for the answers that have already been provided. 🤣 I don't think I understand fully how to go about solving these puzzles or maybe I'm just stupid. But it has been alot of fun trying to solve the puzzles.

*Edit* After reading the comments I realized that I had to tap on the cards to get more information. So using the grid made more sense now that I actually understood what to do. I also had never used any of the clues provided. Anyway, I attempted the mini. I still failed (lol, I think I got a little too excited so I didn't fill out the entire grid because I thought I had the answer. I'll take my time and think it through for tomorrow's puzzle) but at least I now have a better understanding of the game. Thanks everyone!

Murdle 3 Puzzle 44 Ancient Code

I solved the puzzle, but when reading the passage under the answer in the back of the book. There’s a scramble of letters in an ancient code. Can anyone direct me where to figure out how to solve the ancient code? This is my first Murdle book even though it’s volume 3. I couldn’t find 1 or 2 at the store so I’m sorry if it’s found in an earlier volume! Thank you!

Murdle V1, second difficulty level

Hi, I need some help to understand the riddles in the second part.
How do you figure out which statement is wrong? I feel like it’s just try and error but that can’t be the only way right? Am I missing something??

Very grateful for any advice!

Help with the rules

Hello guys, I just bought the murdle book! Had never heard of it before and saw it in a bookshop so I didn't know there was an online version. What are the rules exactly of murdle? Is there always only 1 person in a room and do they all always have a different object/weapon? It's not specified in the book.
