Still stuck in Riven

Hi all again, I had to create a new post so I could add my updated scribble. Please someone tell me if I am on the right track with this. I don't understand how what the order of the totems are when the last stone lifted has to be no.6 when there is obviously an 8 in the mix. Any help would be great fully appreciated, I am pulling my very thining hair out with this!!! Cheers,

I know I'm not the only one that can't get rid of the originals

I've had these since I originally bought them as they were released. Who's with me?

Atrus is offering you any of the Myst Universe books for your personal use, which one do you choose?

Hypothetical fun question. Atrus comes to you and as a reward for all your hard work and support offers you ownership of any one of the worlds you have visited in your travels. He'd also plans to teach you the art of writing worlds as his sons are gone, Yeesha has gone kooky and wants to pass this along as a gift to you to preserve the knowledge.

Which world in the Myst universe (any game, any world) would you choose, and assuming you knew how to expand this world, what changes would you write in?

He also sternly warns you that if you betray his trust and write in questionable things Gehn would approve of, be warned.

Stuck in Riven

Hi fellow explorers, I am seriously hoping someone can help me. I am stuck in the puzzle regarding the ring of stones with the animal totems on them. I have watched heap of YouTube clips but nothing seams to work. I have attached what I think are correct details of numbers and animals but clearly I am wrong somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Anybody thinks this place belongs in a Myst game? [Repost with better image]

Wat Phu Phrao Temple in Thailand near the border of Laos.

Looks like it's straight out of Uru.

It seems like the original Riven is better than the remake.

The remake does not have the FMV performances of the actors and I think it hurts it. They should have kept that.

Still, the remake is more immersive. It may be fun to play in VR.

Russian Myst Book

Recently, I came across a book in a second-hand bookstore that I simply couldn't walk past.

It's an old Russian edition of Myst: The Book of Atrus!

With original illustrations by artists S. Merkulov (cover) and A. Yeremin (black-and-white drawings).

As far as I can tell, this is a licensed translation, which, given the year (1997), sounds pretty wild.

Here's a brief description from the back cover:

"It's not easy at age 14 to learn from your father that you can create new worlds! Young Atr worships his father and sees him as his ideal. But a real shock awaits him: the object of his adoration turns out to be a cold and cruel cynic. The conflict between father and son escalates when the beautiful Katran appears..."

Notable quirks:

· The book is simply titled "MYST."("МИСТ")

· I've only flipped through it so far, but from what I can tell, there's no mention anywhere that this is connected to a game series.

· Atrus is rendered as "Atr," and Gehn is called "Gen" (a literal rendering of his name). D'ni called D'ni. ("Атр", "Ген", "Д'ни")

· Otherwise, the translation is pretty good, though I haven't done a side-by-side comparison yet.

In any case, this is a very interesting artifact. And I got it pretty cheap (~$6).

Looking for play testers

--- *** ALL KEYS USED *** --- Very sorry, all the keys are used now. Original post below:

Hi Folks, you might remember me posting a while ago, about my 'Myst adjacent' game

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4556080/The_Clock_the_Queen_and_the_Door_on_the_Beach/

I'm looking for testers, and have a handful of keys to give away. You get access to a full pre-release copy of the game. If you find bugs ( you shouldn't ), great, but what I'm really looking for is, feedback from people who like this sort of game.

To be clear, it's not a Myst clone, there is no Lore, or book reading, but it does have a story of sorts and the same kind of feel.

If you're interested, please drop a comment in this thread, and I'll PM you a key. If you'd rather wait until it's released, it would help immensely if you wishlist it :)

Adapting Myst to a Stage Play

Hello everyone,

Theater has been a part of my life ever since I started high school. Myst is also one of my favorite games of all time.

I have been dipping my toes into amateur playwriting and directing. Last summer, I directed and produced The Secret Garden, one of my favorite shows of all time, at a local theater.

Today, I was contemplating set design and how a beautiful or interesting set can make or break a show. In particular, I love incorporating things like hidden entrances and other stage magic. And I thought of Myst, with all of its unique mechanical devices, otherworldly machines and places, the extremely cool and unique way the games present their worlds and how the interactivity of those places and objects are a core part of the game’s storytelling.

And I began to wonder about the potential of adapting Myst to the stage… of course, it would need to be reshaped quite a bit, and given the lonely nature and feel of the game, I was of course picturing a very small cast, potentially only four people (The Player, Sirrus, Achenar, and Atrus). I was also contemplating the possibility of having the main character (player character) actually be split into two characters in order to facilitate more interaction and dialogue during scenes- although I am not sure if that would really make sense in the story.

Anyway, my main reason for finding this so intriguing , as I said, is the potential for a really cool visual experience - a well built Myst set featuring some of the iconic puzzle pieces such as the constellation chair could be insanely cool. But I certainly do see many challenges as far as storytelling goes , given the differences in medium.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts!

Can Someone Please Explain This?

How is the Moiety getting these moths to be attracted to this one spot and in the shape of the animal pictogram? For that matter how did they make sure only the flowers in the tree would be bloomed to form the pictogram of the beetle??

At first I thought when I found the sight-glass that since the white 'invisible ink' they used is made from the juices of a mushed up fruit, and since the moths were also attracted to the spilled paint bucket, that meant the fruit is a natural food of the moths and they're attracted to it. Maybe they glow white too because the juices get stuck to their wings when they fly around and land in it.

But there's no juices laid out on the ground here to attract the moths, so why the hell do they just all hang out here in this shape?

It just seems beneath the legacy of Riven to have something so gamey that doesn't actually make real-life sense..

Looking for a funny (crack) video

It was a bunch of memey clips, with some funny music and stuff, intercut together.

All I remember is a segment that was a bunch of Atrus clips set to "Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number so call me maybe".

Can't find it anymore.

Help please? Thank you

Possibility of URU VR standalone

I’m p active on the oculus quest and virtual reality subs. There has been a crazy influx of people porting things like half life 2, vice city, original Medal of Honor, super Mario 64 and Morrowind to the quest standalone. I think a lot of this is people using Claude code or something similar to do a lot of the tedious work and then refining the result. Curious if anyone with the tech skills knows how feasible it would be to port uru into a standalone quest version. The headset can absolutely handle the game itself and there is an open source version of the plasma engine (openuru) so I think it’s possible. Anyone have any opinions? Obviously private multiplayer servers would be amazing but I’d even be happy to explore the cavern in VR single player.

So What The Actual Hell Even Is This Thing?

I'm very torn about the change to Gehn's relationship with the starfield. It was such an ominous dangerous thing in his eyes in the original it's really hard to imagine he'd venture out into it and walk around on floating platforms.

But regardless what I really want to know is what the hell this is.

Yeah it's cool they took the round planet/rock from the old Riven Cyan-logo back in the day and made it a literal thing in the game world now, but some explanation of it's significance would definitely be appreciated. What IS this big ass rock, why is it affixed to a set place in space enough that something can be anchored to and rotated around it?

I know the distractingly obvious light-house lamp ripoff is supposed to be the device that charges the fire-marbles.. but WHY does it charge the fire marbles? What exactly is it generating energy from? From the sphere? From the starfield itself? Why does Gehn need to be in the starfield to generate power for the marbles?

Looking for a save game for realMyst Masterpiece Edition.

Does anyone know where I can get a save that is right up to when you get the Green Book and have the white page for it? I need a save right at the end so I can do Rime and the extra content.

I found a site that should have the saves, but it will not let me download for some reason.

Edit. I found a save at this point. It is on this website. You have to download all the saves to get it.

The individual saves don't seem to work, but the autosave does and it is at right when you get the white page.

You are holding it in your hand.
