Media coverage of Netball

I wrote the following to The Age today

I logged on to read today's sports section with growing disbelief. Every story was about men, Formula 1, tennis, AFL, NRL, horse racing, soccer, cricket. The one story featuring a woman was about an American WNBA player. One woman. From another country.
Meanwhile, right here in Melbourne, the Mavericks played the Vixens at John Cain Arena yesterday before a sold-out crowd. Real Melburnians, in large numbers, turned out to watch elite women's sport live. Your sports desk didn't think it worth a mention.
Between these two Melbourne clubs sit six Australian Diamonds players, six members of our national netball team, competing at world-class level in our own city. They deserved to be in your pages today.
The argument that women's sport doesn't attract readers is a self-fulfilling prophecy. When a local derby sells out, the audience is clearly there. Your coverage just hasn't caught up.

Melbourne is a proud sporting city, and half it's population is women. We deserve better.

We have to start making noise and pointing out the dismal coverage Super Netball in Australia gets from our media.

“Rant over” 😊

How close are Jamaica to a World Cup win

They were rubbish against Australia earlier this year, but they played their B team.

JFN, Sterling Humphrey, and Wilson are damn near picks 1, 2 and 3 in a World 7 and even if you dispute that, they're still in a World starting 7.

I know JFN is out right now, but if those three were available, what more would they need to win a world cup or Comm Games?

They're better than those Feb scorelines. For mine, I reckon a strong WA or C could swing it.

Based on no real information

I think Courtney Bruce will return to Fever. Again, this is based on nothing but my thoughts when watching games, I think CB isn’t happy about sharing the limelight with Burger. Ash had a good game this week and has extra height so might see more court time. Fever need a better GK - and is Sunday back next season? Could happen!

Charlie Bell & Holly Comyns clash

Hooowee, these two were going at it in the Pulse vs Tactix game in NZ’s ANZ Premiership. I’ve never seen anything quite like it! It seemed personal. I wonder if their paths have ever crossed previously in their Aussie pathways. Does anyone know?

(edited as one kind commenter pointed out I had wrongly stated Stars instead of Tactix)

SSN could be renamed

So Suncorp is reportedly leaving their partnership with Netball Australia. Therefore the super netball could be called something else coming into next year season.
