moving to NB, need vet (and other) recs
i’m moving to New Bedford with my partner and two dogs in a few weeks for work. we’ve got an apartment locked down and are getting our stuff packed up.
i’m wondering if anyone has good veterinarian, dog trainer and doggy daycare/boarding recommendations? doesn’t need to be all-in-one, although that would be amazing.
i have a 5 month old puppy who probably can do with some prof. training and a good vet to suggest food changes for allergies etc — and a senior dog who doesn’t need much but a good vet for vaccinations and a trainer for older dogs (just to reinforce the basics).
looking for a vet whose fairly conservative in terms of treatments, i.e. i want someone who isn’t going to jump to the most invasive, complicated / expensive treatment upon first glance (hard i know).
and as a side note: i’ll take any good running route, restaurant, bar or must-do recommendations for the city and surrounding areas.
thanks in advance, looking forward to moving in.
Anyone recognize this thief?
This woman stole from Little Compton Flowers. Does anyone recognize her? She should go back and pay them before this gets worse for her.

Rat Issue in North End
My family has had a rat problem on Illinois St for the past few years. It has really gotten worse this year, when my dad took a picture of a rat in blind daylight. There are 2 slum landlords on our street, one right next to our house. The other house has a roof that could collapse any minute, and the front yard looks ugly. There are also chickens and roosters in our neighborhood, which I believe is illegal to have roosters in the city. My mom spoke at the meeting at Pulaski last night, and she talked to Ian Abreu on the phone. My Grandma, who lives on Ohio Street has also seen rats in the area. If you have seen rats in different parts of the city please let me know. They are usually scavenging yards from Illinois to Appleton Street, along Metcalf Street up to Pine Grove.
New England’s Cabo Verdeans living a World Cup fairytale
Of all the great stories from FIFA World Cup 2026 so far — the Tartan Army, Viking Row, Lionel Messi — who knew that the best soccer story would be the national team of Cape Verde?

Posting here in case anyone else has had a nightmare experience dealing with this property management. I’ve been without air conditioning for a week now. I have called and left probably 15 messages between their main office and the “emergency” line. I get told someone is coming out to fix it and nobody shows up. I finally filed a complaint with the health division in New Bedford but they can’t guarantee they can do anything to help before the heat wave hits tomorrow. This is only one of the many, many issues I’ve had since living here and I don’t know what else to do. Sincerely worried about the safety of myself and my 15 year old dog.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!

Capitol Still Collecting?
I don't know if any of you have Wednesday trash, if Capitol Waste is still collecting bins for now until the contract winner is announced. If you see any other hauler besides Capitol collecting bins in the city please let me know as there is no announcement regarding the contract winner.
Moving to NB
It looks like I will be moving to the area soon for work and know very little about the city. I have been looking at apartments and want to start touring soon. What are some areas to look for? What are some to avoid? What are some things I can look forward to when I move? I am a couple of years out of undergrad and am worried about not having things to do or people to hang with. Thanks!
Yard Waste Reduction
I am wondering when will yard waste pickup frequency be reduced with the new trash contract and cut night last week. We usually have yard waste that goes out every week in summer, and less often in spring and fall. I do not know who won the contract, or who bid as it is not public. We usually have weekly yard waste that goes out in summer, so when should I notify my parents about the switch to bi-weekly? Should I tell them after Mayor Mitchell announces the winner, so they are not left calling the hauler, or should I tell them now?
Affordable Piano movers?
I recently moved to New Bedford, and I am looking for free/cheap upright pianos on FB marketplace and trying to figure out how I would get one home.
All of the piano movers I am seeing are an hour away+. Has anyone in NB used a piano mover, and are there any closer?
I am getting quotes for $795 for moving costs because of the distance which sounds like a lot & I am wondering if I should just try to move it myself 😭
(please don't recommend movers who don't explicitly work with pianos)
Recommendations for rehearsal dinner
does anyone have any recommendations in the New Bedford area for locations for a wedding rehearsal dinner?
Are there any rules against using a charcoal grill or wood smoker in town?
I didn't find anything on the website, and the only thing Google came up with was an ai answer of being to be ten feet from any structure, which sounds reasonable but it's ai so I don't trust it.
Anyone know for certain?

The kids leaving Roosevelt Middle when they're dismissed this year are the worst its ever been. When is the school responsible (if ever)?
Posting under an alt for reasons.
I've done some loose google searching and it appears that when the school is made aware of the incidents and takes no action they can be held liable for ensuring that their students are not disturbing the peace in the immediate area, according to prior cases (specifically citing a case in Seattle where students upon daily dismissal were vandalizing the local area of their school, the school was notified, and they weren't facilitating a better dismissal so the city stepped in).
So here's my qualm: this year when students are dismissed from Roosevelt daily they are menaces. In the past we've had loud yelling and fighting but it's never resulted in property damage. This year, since October, the kids are damaging property in the area. This one woman has had rocks thrown at her house, they've damaged a small statue on her lawn, some kids tore down a Portuguese flag and left it in the street, and today they came by threw PAINT on someone's car. PAINT. Roosevelt HAS been contacted and only said to tell the police in the past. The police have shown up, "looked" for the kids in question time after time and had a presence but nothing has come of it. With the paint incident, the police have said they reached out to Roosevelt but it's been a while and nothing has come of it. People in the area are getting fed up to the point where a small group of us are about to reach out to media, specifically WPRI. We have camera footage of the same-ish group of kids acting like assholes.
I'm coming here to ask because other than New Bedford Guide (which, seems to have a lot of racists and bigots that comment) there isn't another online congregated community to ask. What are everyone's thoughts?
Where is responsibility and accountability to be held when a large group of students are constantly disruptive, violent, and destructive when they get let out of school and they walk down Brock Avenue.
