Buying small apartment in Nice for student rental plus summer use - realistic?

Hi, i am considering buying a small apartment ( 20-32 m2) in Nice, ideally close to the beach or promenade. My idea would be to rent it out to students during academic year, and then use it myself as a summer base for few weeks in summer, i am in early reseeach phase, is this realisticalky doable in Nice? How difficult is property management from abroad? Make this hybrid use strategy sense financially in that area?

Nice airport time needed

We have a 1015am international flight out of Nice. I’ve heard it’s a very easy and not crowded airport. Do I really need to get there 3 hours before the flight?

from Nice to Monaco to Menton on foot

Ciao,

I am a fan of exploring the places on foot and year ago I was in french riviera (nice, monaco, menton) driving by car, the views and surroundings has absolutely amazed me so I decided to return there to explore it by walking.

I wish to walk from Nice to Monaco, or from Monaco to Menton.
What will be your go-to points?

Google creates the route along the public roads, but want to dive deeper into more private surroundings.

Thank you

Merci 🙏

Le Plongeoir minimum spend

Hello everyone!!

Me and my partner made a bit of a mistake it seems... We were very interested in visiting Le Plongeoir, for the view and some drinks! We had heard, and saw that it is a place that needs a reservation, so we went ahead today and made one for friday. When we got the confrontation email, it mentioned that a) the largest cancellation was yesterday (lol??) and b) that there is a 60 euro minimum spend. We were just looking to sit in the lounge area with cocktails and an appetizer. Not spend 120 euros...

So my question is, is the 60 euro minimum situational?? Just for the fancy roof top area or is it a MUST with every reservation?? Basically is there a way out of it lol.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, the general tourism thread seemed to be locked. I don't use reddit a lot, I'm a bit oblivious to how these things work..!!

Accomodation in Nice

Bonjour à tous!

I'm a student from India who got accepted into Centrale Méditerranée in Nice as part of the Digital Tech Year program of 2026-27, and I had some queries regarding the booking of accommodation and what to avoid, since it's been a huge burden on my head ever since I got my admission letter.

  1. Is Studapart a good platform to look for accommodations, or should I search for one on other platforms like Se Loger or Studea Nexity?

  2. Can security deposits be paid in installments or should it be paid all at once? Cuz some of the listings have massive security deposits which I can't afford all at once despite having affordable rent.

  3. How is the Tram system in Nice? My school is just a few minutes of walking away from Tram Line 3, but most accomodations are in La Madeleine, Vernier, Thiers, basically the East of Nice, while my school is in Avenue Simone Veil.

  4. Accommodations right now on Studapart are getting booked quickly, and my date of entry is somewhere around the end of August, which a lot of landlords aren't willing to accept. Will there be more listings later on?

Please do let me know. I need to get my accommodation sorted out especially since I need proof of residence to apply for my student visa, which could take some time to receive. Thank you!

How do tourists find Cannabis.

All CBD shops are closed and the vending machine in old town was empty. We had brought a pen over to help with medical issues but it has run out. It’s not exactly easy to find here. I know it’s frowned upon but we are from a legal state in america and will have trouble without it.

Any help appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you see this before it gets taken down. Not looking for a transaction just advice.

Looking for friends ✨

Hi everyone! I’m 27F, recently moved to Nice with my husband, and currently trying to build a social life from scratch 🥲

I’m a bit introverted at first, but I’d love to meet people for coffee, walks, or just nice conversations ✨

Nice, Villefranche or elsewhere

I’ve coming to Nice for the third time this summer, on the last occasions I’ve stayed in Nice itself.

This time I’m coming with my mum and wondering if I should look for accommodation in one of the neighbouring areas instead.

We won’t be out late partying- we’ll want to go to the beach a couple of times, relax over coffee and dessert in the evenings, go sightseeing (I think we’ll go to Eze, and probablt get the train to Antibes as I’ve never been there before).

My mum is in her sixties and relatively fit but she has Parkinson’s so can get more tired than the average person.

I just want a nice holiday in a beautiful setting for us to enjoy. I know that’s a bit vague, but what would you recommend?

Nice study spots/laptop friendly coffee shops in Nice?

Hello,

I’m a student at one of the universities in Nice and our school year is mostly over so the BUs are quite abandoned except for people studying for rattrapage or a few doctoral students. I’m also quite tired of the BU and would like to find somewhere else to work but I haven’t been able to yet.

I do still have some projects and candidatures to work on but I can’t really be productive at home. The smaller city where I used to live had a lot of cafes where it was easier to focus but I have had trouble finding some here in Nice. most of them aren’t super laptop friendly or have too much noise/get too crowded with limited space etc. I usually try to go to copenhagen or hobo cafe but for some reason i sometimes can’t really concentrate there because there’s too many ppl and the vibe stresses me out lol.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice coffee shop or place with a calm ambiance where you can do some work? Where do people normally study/work here besides libraries?

Medieval City Tour - Rent a car or use a taxi?

Hello! My friends and I are spending next week in Nice. We would like to do a day trip where we visit Grasse, Gourdon, Tourettes-sur-Loup, and Saint Paul de Vence. What’s the best way to manage transportation? Are taxis available or Uber? Public transportation? Should we rent a car for the day? We’d prefer not to do a tour and take our time in each location. Any advice is appreciated!

And apologies if this is not allowed, but I couldn’t find the megathread the rules referred to.

Where/how to learn swimming in Nice?

Hello!

I recently moved to Nice and the weather is perfect now to go swimming but I don’t know how🫣

I can kinda swim a bit and can sort of stay afloat in pools but i have difficulty treading water and swimming more than a few meters because i never officially learned so i don’t really have any skills.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find swimming lessons for adults here in Nice? and are there any places that offer lessons in the ocean where you can learn to swim in open water?

Thanks in advance🙏

Is there a “look” that makes you seem touristy?

Obviously there are a ton of tourists in Nice but I’m wondering what might make someone seem especially more like one or give off that touristy vibe.

My friend and I have been living in Nice for several years and aren’t from here but not tourists either. I noticed that every time we go anywhere usually she gets spoken to in french and I always get spoken to in english. Even at the same restaurant if a waiter comes by and my friend makes a motion a question the waiter will answer in french before she’s even started talking, and if i’m trying to ask, they will usually approach us in english. Like just “oui, vous avez besoin de quelque chose ?” versus “yes do you need something?” at cafes, boulangeries, bars, etc. since it’s before we’ve said a word i think it’s most likely just our appearance and maybe vibe. I’m not sure because some tourists are REALLY obvious and some locals are too but most people are somewhere in between so people default to french.

We are usually dressed in very plain basic clothes from zara, h&m, uniqlo, or mango. Wouldn’t say we are stylish but also not dressed obnoxiously in glittery eiffel tower striped shirts and berets hahah.

Is there any specific vibe or clothing or mannerisms that makes you seem more like a tourist in Nice? What might make a local more instinctively speak to someone in english instead of french?

Please help me with food in Nice

Hi everybody.
Going to Nice for a vacation in two weeks. I have been there before and even lived there for a year many years ago.
But I think its hard to find good places to eat that are not touristy and overpriced.
So please give me all your recommendations where to find goodfood, not too expensive, would love it if its french cuisine, but the most importens thing is the quality.
Thanks!
