FREE BEER, HOT DOGS, & PIZZA - Join our weekly progressive political discussions at Drinking Liberally : Thu, 5/21 6:30pm @ Rudy’s Bar and Grill, Hell’s Kitchen

Drinking Liberally is a weekly social meetup where people get together to talk politics, have a drink (and a free hot dog), and hang out. We started gathering at Rudy’s Bar and Grill in Hell’s Kitchen in 2003, and it is still meeting there every Thursday.

What:

Casual political conversation and socializing. We talk about local and national politics, share perspectives, and get to know new people in a relaxed, friendly environment. People of any political persuasion are welcome as long as the conversation stays respectful and kind. The group tends to attract people left of center, but it is not limited to them.

When:

Thursday, May 21

6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

People often stay later if the conversation is flowing.

Where:

Rudy’s Bar and Grill

627 9th Ave, Hell’s Kitchen

We meet in Jack’s Backyard at the back of the bar. There is a Drinking Liberally sign on the wall near our tables. You can also ask the bartender for Drinking Liberally and they will point you in the right direction.

Cost:

No cover and no minimum.

Drinks can be purchased individually.

Rudy’s provides complimentary hot dogs with a drink purchase.

It is customary that the first person to arrive buys a pitcher for the table and that people who enjoy the pitcher will take turns returning the favor later in the evening.

Who should come:

Anyone interested in politics and good conversation. Despite the name, this is not just for liberals. We have progressives, social democrats, DSA members, resistance era liberals, and people across the political spectrum who want thoughtful political discussion.

Accessibility and notes:

21+ only since this is a bar.

Jack’s Backyard is handicap accessible, though the bar can get crowded at times.

Our tables are reserved so you will have a place to gather even on busy nights.

Brunches of Morocco & Mountains of Injera -5/17 @ 2:30pm

This Sunday, we’re doing what Foodie Fam does best. That is eating our way through multiple countries without ever leaving the craziness of the city. We are switching it up this time. This is less of a food crawl and more of a “we came for dinner and somehow stayed out 6 hours” event. Because we have two absolute gems in Café Mogador and Halie.

📍 Meetup - > Gemina Coffee Shop - 424 E 14th St 2:30pm

First stop: Cafe Mogador

Calling it legendary wouldn’t do it justice enough. The ambiance, the authenticity of the food and wonderful attentive staff make it a must visit. It’s been on my list for a while and plan to make the most of it. Think Moroccan eggs, lamb tagines, fluffy pita, mint tea, and the kind of atmosphere will make anyone feel like they were in a cozy café in Marrakech.

And then onto….

Haile Bistro
Where we’ll dive headfirst into giant Ethiopian platters, spicy stews, sizzling tibs, and enough injera to accidentally becoming best friends with strangers at the table. If you’ve never eaten Ethiopian food before and or have been wanting to, then this is for you.

As usual we will share dishes, laughs and dine family style(because that is honestly the best way to eat with potential strangers) There is an already existing Discord(changing over to Whatsapp soonish…).
