Newbie … help needed!

Hi good people, please bear with me.

We’ve had solar panels since 2016 and are fortunate enough to get a FIT tariff for generation and export.

Last Friday we had an Ohme home pro charger installed for our recently purchased EV.

Last Tuesday we had a Powerwall 3 installed to compliment the solar and to future proof our home against price rises. On Tuesday we also switched to Octopus’s Intelligent Go tariff.

On Tuesday evening I plugged my car in and set the ready time to 05:30 on the Ohme app to ensure I stayed within the cheap tariff window - 23:30 to 05:30. However, on Wednesday morning I found that the Powerwall had been drained and we appeared to be drawing from the grid with the car still charging.

Also, I assumed that I would be able to keep the EV plugged in and the overnight tariff would charge the Powerwall and the EV.

My wife and I are completely bamboozled by Google searches and calls to Octopus etc and would appreciate any advice from anyone with a similar set up.

The other confusion was whether to export via Octopus or keep our existing FIT export rate (for simplicity’s sake I’m tempted to keep that side of things as they are.)

Thanks for any advice and sorry it’s such a long post.

Ohme epod help

Hi all,

I had an epod installed a few days ago and last night was my first time using/charging my vehicle.
I have a bmw, and was told by the guy who installed it to use mybmw app to schedule the charge. I’ve done this and input it charges between 2300-0600 to 80%.

However, every few minutes the app kept pausing the charge, and then changing the schedule to charge between 0400-0900 for whatever reason. So I’ve now woken up without it being fully charged.

What is the best way to charge going forward?
Am I doing something wrong? Do I use the ohme app or the bmw app?
I’m also on EDF go electric so my off peak is 7p and I want to utilise this price so charging in day is not desirable

Thanks

ohme / octopus

So now only 6hrs a night.?

Basically loosing 20% charge overnight for a 77kwh battery car.

https://octopus.energy/blog/intelligent-octopus-go-smarter-charging-for-a-greener-grid/

“Ohme, BMW, Mini, and Polestar
For some manufacturers, things work a little differently. If you use an Ohme charger or drive a BMW, Mini, or Polestar, the 4-rate tariff still applies, but your experience works a little differently.

If you have an Ohme Charger: You will manage your schedules entirely in the Ohme app, not the Octopus app. When enabled, the Prioritise setting will automatically appear in your Ohme app.
To keep your charging under 6 hours, go to Charging > Prioritise and select Prioritise Savings.

Selecting Prioritise Target (default) means Ohme automatically schedules charging across multiple time slots between plug-in and unplug to reach your battery target, and you will pay peak rates for any extra charging time over 6 hours. (Make sure your Ohme app is updated to latest version and notifications are on so they can warn you!)

If you drive a BMW, Mini, or Polestar: You will set your target battery percentage and departure time in your car’s native app. However, these apps don't have a built-in feature to stop you from exceeding the 6-hour limit.
This makes the Octopus app notifications even more important.

If your settings are going to push you over 6 hours into peak rates, we’ll send you a notification suggesting an alternative target. You’ll then need to open your BMW, Mini or Polestar app and manually lower the target to keep your charging in the cheapest times.

Our data shows that over 80% of EV charging sessions take less than 6 hours. So, instead of spreading the off-peak rate too thin or creating a dozen confusing tariff variations (yes, we’re looking at you, Octopus Go Faster), we’ve tailored Intelligent Octopus Go to work brilliantly for how people actually charge.

We’ve split out your car charging and your home use, creating a dynamic 4-rate system. It sounds complicated, but it boils down to four simple rules:
Your home off-peak: Your house always gets the cheap off-peak rate between 23:30 and 05:30. Reliable, consistent, cheap green electrons every day.

Your car allowance: Your car gets up to 6 hours of off-peak charging per day (measured midday to midday). We might schedule this during your home's off-peak window, or at other times of the day when the grid is greenest.

Your freebie (the bonus home rate): If we schedule your car to charge outside of the 23:30–05:30 window, your home also gets the off-peak rate for that half-hour when it’s within your car allowance.

Your standard rate: The default for your home, outside its off-peak window. If your car charges for more than 6 hours (or you decide to Boost charge), the car rate flips back to this rate (even if it happens at 2:00 AM while your house is still getting the off-peak rate).

Car hasn't charged correctly for the past couple of nights

Hiya, Can anyone offer me any assistance please?

I'm in the UK, I have an Ohme Home Pro and an MG4 Xpower, I'm on Octopus Intelligent Go. Ohme cannot connect to the MG on the API / read the battery level.

For the past couple of years I've not had more than a blip with charging my car. I always charge to 100%, previously telling the app how much % to add to my car to make it up to 100%. Recently the app has changed, whereby I've set that I want it to charge to 100% by 5:30 and I tell it what my battery % is at time of plug in.

The Ohme app is up to date and I do not have any active Routines.

I've not changed any of the settings in the car and there's nothing that would limit charging / schedules.

When I got home from work yesterday I noticed that the charge level was unusually low, down to 30% - indicating that it hadn't charged correctly the night before, so I put it on charge, set the battery level and approved the charge, expecting to walk out this morning to a 100% battery, however, it was still on 30%.

I've dropped a message to Ohme via the help section in the app, but part of the troubleshooting was to try power cycle the Ohme (I've turned it off at the consumer unit for 30 mins) start it back up and Max Charge - I did this, but it's only charging at 0.0KW, it seemed to flick to 0.4KW for a short while. I can't work out how to remove my EV from the app, do I have to add another of the same car and then remove the old one?

I've changed it back to scheduled (it flicked to 0.12KW whilst setting up the schedule) and it's now scheduled to charge in an hour (ish), I'll keep an eye on it, but I don't think it's going to charge. I do have the 3-pin plug as a back-up, but would prefer not to use it unless I have to.

Does anyone have any further suggestions on how I can get the car charging? Preferably on my Intelligent Go schedule?

Thanks in advance!

Low charging speed

Can anyone help shed some light on an issue I'm having with my charging speed?

I've just taken delivery of my new Tesla Model Y and plugged it in to make sure everything works. However, the max speed I'm getting is just under 4 kW.

My Ohme Home Pro says its max charge current is 32A, but the car shows it's only receiving 16A. If I manually change the car's setting to 32A, it immediately drops back down to 16A once charging starts and won't let me select anything higher.

I don't have an EV tariff yet (I'm in the middle of switching) so there are no schedules set up. I just wanted to test it on max charge to put some juice in. Am I doing something wrong?

Charging start time is off

Hi

I have an Ohme Home Pro and I've noticed that the start time for charging is off by an hour or so.

I have manually set my tariff (British Gas EV Power 2) as it is not listed as a selectable tariff. I've set the off peak time as midnight til 5am, yet when I set it to charge off peak, it wants to start at say 1.03am or 1.09am. I've changed the battery % in the app to 20% (to see if it adjusts the start time) but it made no difference.

Despite me setting the off peak as above, the tariff rates show off peak to be 1am-6am. It's driving me crazy. Has anyone else had this issue and if so have you managed to resolve it, or am I doing something wrong?

Cheers

Ohme app showing incorrect SOC

This is the first time I’ve experienced this.

I plugged the car in and the Ohme app is showing 63% as the current charge but the car says 53%. It is set to charge to 80%.

I assume I will end up with 70% in the morning!

Car is a VW ID.7.

Car hasn’t charged past few days

Hi all, I’ve been having some issues with our Ohme pro for the past few months really, since they updated the app and I now have to enter the car’s battery %. It also never gets the estimate right, meaning I have to manually change it.

Quite often I’ll plug the car in and forget about it, and it is selected to smart charge during 11:30 and 5:30am using octopus intelligent go’s cheaper rate. But sometimes I’ll get a notification saying charge interrupted and to check the wall box - which I did last night, usually an unplug and plug back in does the trick, but the past two nights it hasn’t.

I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Not ideal with the weather and now we’re left with 97 miles on the estimate range.

Thanks for any help before I call Ohme today. I’m hoping this isn’t a fault with the car (VW ID.7).

Ohme fluctuating voltage issues causing stops

Hi There

I’ve had an Ohme home pro charger for a month for my new BYD Seal. Always charged fine and no problem.

Then this evening when charging, it started saying error and clicking, then starting, then error and clicking, then starting (rinse and repeat).

I’ve attached a video showing the voltages. Drops to 208/209ish, errors and clicks, spikes back up to 220ish, and then repeats.

Not sure if it relates to the hot weather - charger was in direct sunlight earlier but now it’s not and still doing it. Ports all clear and tried flicking fuse off and on to reset it but still happening.

Any ideas of what’s happening here? Need the car first thing and highly anxious. First time I’ve felt some regret about electric but hoping it’s a temporary blip…

App won;t let me charge to 100% anymore

I’ve just noticed today that the app tells me that it’s going to charge the car up to 89%, even though I have it set up to charge to 100%. When I try to override the session to 100%, it pops up a message saying it’s setting it back to respect my session settings. What’s the deal with this?? What if I need the car to be at 100% by the morning? Not happy.
