Best thrift stores/shopping spots?
Hi RVA’ers!
Coming to town this weekend for the oddities and curiosities expo with my 13 year old daughter.
She is very into thrifting and vintage shopping. I’ve searched previous posts and am wondering if anyone has recommendations for good spots to hit? I have Circle thrift and Rumours on my list already! TIA!
Code Refresh and Duplexes
Okay I hope I don't come across as more ignorant than I am when it comes to this Code Refresh. But I'm wondering why everyone is so focused on duplexes vs larger apartment complexes in neighborhoods. By larger complexes I'm talking like 5 over 1s and in general the complexes that I've watched being built around the Diamond and along Broad St. And I'll be honest, I hate these fucking ugly ass, grey ass, looks like every other bitch type of complexes. I don't think they're made well and I think they are a general blight on the historical neighborhoods in Richmond. I would be all for them if I could see that there was any consideration for adding charm to the neighborhood. I've seen such complexes elsewhere, annoyingly in European cities like Berlin, Germany and Montpellier, France. So I have a general hesitation for these larger density focused buildings because I have yet to see one that looks like it hasn't been half built in a Minecraft server. I think duplexes are great but I also wonder why there isn't as much of a focus on building fourplexes or 6-8 unit buildings which we already see in neighborhoods around the city. I mean I get the necessity for parking space but I'm also a little Reject Modernity, Embrace Tradition and think Richmond should expand their busing and (in my dreams of dreams) bring back our railcars considering much of the initial outgrowth of the city in the early 20th century was built around said system. But I know that's technically a separate conversation. I also think we seriously need a cap on rent in the city and an honest consideration of supporting the workers of Richmond (food service, retail, and other blue collar jobs) living in the city. (I for one, am fucking tired of having the same goddamn conversation with a Nova or NYC or Cali transplant about how 'cheap' the city with their 100k+ salaries).
All in all I get some of the concerns about building up density housing because I have yet to see an example of said density housing done with a consideration for longevity, neighborhood charm, and regionality. I love Richmond and I don't want it to become a Nova copycat in which massive private equity corporations give little thought beyond their own monetary gain for how people are going to live here.
Kelsey Bagot worked for NextEra Energy before becoming Chair of the Virginia SCC and doesn’t think she needs to recuse herself???
Could not be more of an industry plant at this point. They want to merge with Dominion so install a friendly chair. Chair pushes through the merger. Chair quits and goes back to cushy job at NextEra. It’s a tale as old as time
Avoid 14 South Plum street
Just moved out and there’s definitely a mold issue that they just paint over. It was so badly taken care of a possum got into my unit. They charged me $150 for a clogged toilet and now they’re asking for more money despite the deposit. Managed by Bear Granville.
Drop it Like it's Flock!
We want YOU 🫵 to help us do an anti-Flock dance at Gambles Hill Park. Come ready to learn an easy 8-count dance to Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” on Wednesday 8/19 at 7:30PM. Map on the second image for meeting location and parking recommendation.
A message to the great retired patriots of the Fan Homeowners Association
All and all its not so bad, the corridors were maintained which is nice, and they kept the ADUs, but man ill miss those hypothetical duplexes

Dirt bikes and motorcycles on Floyd?
I’m new to Richmond. But what’s up with the idiot parade of motorcycles blasting exhaust pipes down Floyd and elsewhere last night circa 2 AM?
What’s with the tv mounting ads plastered everywhere
On the ad it says they mount anything. Do you think they’d mount me?
Observation of a DC transplant: dudes running with shirts off
Conservatively, 90% of the male joggers in Richmond do not have shirts on. The DC percentage is totally flipped. What gives? I thought maybe it's an exhibitionist thing.... Look at me, I'm jacked! But that's definitely not the majority. Sure, it's hot out, but wicking Tshirt technology pretty good. This isn't a bit. I'm genuinely curious.
Everybody in /rva hates my nickname for Scott's Addition and I don't understand
I like to call it "the 'dish'" like Scott's Ad-dish-tion because it's a stupid funny thing to say. I've tried to get /rva to adopt it and they shot me down immediately. For what it's worth I told the people at the Benny's in the dish and they are officially on board. Please don't be mean to me. Ok cya.
Does anyone else feel like the Lewis Ginter workers are being unreasonable?
Hey guys I'm completley for workers solidarity and I fully support workers exercising their rights to collective bargaining. But... I mean don't you guys think striking is going a bit far? I don't want this to come off like a lecture of anything but I take me and my three kids to the garden every other weekend and the vibes are always positive and the garden is super well maintained. If these workers strike who's gonna maintain the garden? Who's gonna water the plants? Remove the diapers I stuff in the bushes?
I hope the workers can look past their current dissatisfaction that Ginter isn't raising their wages and consider what's best in the long term for ALL Richmonders. Thanks for listening and stay Richmond Real!
