Oneworld’s New CEO Charts Next Chapter; Forges Hotel Partnership

TLDR: oneworld chief acknowledges they have to fix the "seamless" technology promise that they aim for; smaller airlines need to be heard better; India, as well as South America and Africa are big holes for the alliance; and buried all the way at the end of the article is some quick mention of a new partnership with Taj hotels.

Philippine Airlines officially invited to Oneworld

Anyone excited about Philippine Airlines being officially invited to join Oneworld today? I wonder when they will officially integrate. I am hoping that it will help push them to modernize their booking interface and continue to elevate their standards.

Qatar Silver Status/Partner Airlines

So I have just been upgraded to Silver status (to my surprise!) and with that I see I have 15kg additional baggage allowance.

With my flight I have an additional one via Malaysia Airlines; given the situation in the Middle East.

Will the additional baggage allowance be extended to this flight? I have tried in vain to check the FAQ’s on the website, tried checking my baggage allowance (which only allowed me to choose my seats) and also tried to speak with the chat bot (which was as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle).

Anyone else have this situation recently? Will the additional baggage allowance be extended to a Oneworld partner?
(This is all on the same ticket too, so bags should be checked through to my final destination).

Currently baggage allowance is 30kg.

Best Oneworld Program for HK base

Hi, I am an international student flying between the US (mainly Boston) and HK 3-4 times a year, and I'm struggling to keep my Cathay gold. The go to flight for me is usually Cathay's direct flight between BOS and HKG, but Christmas prices this year spiked up to 3200, and I only get 120 status points and 12000 miles from the round trip. Thus, to maintain gold with this route will require me to fly 5 round-trips a year, a scenario that I fall short of.

However, I found a really good deal with BA, and I get to fly half of the trip in pey while paying a much lower ticket price. I can also do a full pey round trip on BA with the same price as Cathay econ during spring break.

But Cathay has really poor status accumulation for partners, so I've been thinking about switching to the AS program. Since I'm flying so many ultra-long hauls, AS could be a much better way for me to accumulate miles and get a one world sapphire status as AS accumulates points for partners through a percentage of mileage flown. AS accumulates really well for pey cabins for partners (less well for econ). With AS, it is entirely possible for me to get an oneworld sapphire by flying a mix of the BA peys and Cathay econs. I never used AS before and I am not sure if I got everything right so I want to hear some ideas.

First Class out of Tokyo with Avios, does it exist on Finnair Plus?

I've got 200k Avios sitting in Finnair Plus and I want to blow them on a one-way First Class long haul out of Tokyo (HND/NRT). This is purely about the experience, so I don't care where I end up.

I'm a student with tons of flexibility. I can take two weeks off anywhere in the next year and schedule means nothing to me, so I'm happy to just chase availability.

Here's my problemj,Finnair doesn't fly a First cabin, so nothing First shows up searching their site directly. But Oneworld partner flights do appear in the results, which made me think there might be a way in. I've tried pretty hard and turned up nothing in First, so I'm starting to wonder if Business is just the ceiling on Finnair Plus. I mean I could only found handful business flights as well.

Has anyone ever booked partner First through Finnair Plus, or is Business really the limit? I don't mind transferring Avios if it makes it possible. Thanks in advance!
