Star Spangled Sunday Specisl

So they’re promoting the Star-Spangled Banner a gift to all of us. However, the gift is that we can’t watch the Orioles with our standard MASN package? Is there anyway we can actually watch the game without paying extra? This does not seem like much of a gift to me. I would rather return it and watch the Orioles on MASN or anywhere.

Post Fireworks bWAR Party 7/5

O's started July off with a win streak. Patriotism is good luck. 🇺🇸🎆🎇

All star Adley's back! 🥳

Bradish's start lost him .2, so he's down to 1.2 on the season. Baz gained .3, for a total of .9. Gibson lost .5, so he's at -.6 as he returns to AAA. He spend three rotations at -.1. Kremer gained .3 in his return, putting him at .2 after three games. TRog gained .3, so he's up to .6, .2 away from his season high, and 1.5 above his season low. Young gained .1, so he's back to 1.1 on the season.

Mayo has the lowest bWAR on the team at -.8, and Trey Gibson comes in second with -.6. Second lowest on the active roster is TON and Anthony Nunez with -.4 each. That's an improvement for TON since last time, when he had the second lowest with -.6.

I'd usually expect someone who's been on the IL for over two months to struggle a bit coming back, but it looks like Kremer mostly just wants it to not be April. Also, Gibson going back to AAA means our entire rotation is currently made up of guys with positive bWAR! Also, ten of the top twelve are above 1.0, with the other two not all that far behind! Last year, we finally had the entire top twelve at 1.0 at once on September 13th. Akin was the last piece that time.

Cano, JJax, and Taveras left the top twelve, and Baz and Wells took their places

In order: Alonso 1.9; Adley 1.7; Ward 1.6; Basallo and Gunnar 1.5; Garcia, Blaze, and Bradish 1.2; Cowser and Young 1.1; Baz .9; and Wells .8.

Last time's in order: Ward 2; Alonso 1.9; Adley 1.6; Basallo and Bradish 1.4; Blaze and Gunnar 1.1; Garcia and Young 1; Cano and Cowser .8; JJax and Taveras .7.

Do you think it’s still possible for a “lightning in a bottle” type of season(s) with this core in tact if they kept it together for their entire contracts and didn’t trade any of them away? (Long rant, please only engage if you’re willing to read it all, thanks!)

It feels like there’s so much potential in this team that you can *see* but then it rains and then it pours. I’m not saying all of it has been injuries because there’s clearly players struggling to perform with some bright spots here and there. It’s like, they’re close to being a division contending team but then they always come up a dollar less to capitalize on momentum and string together a consistent diet of winning series and fumbling in big moments.

Could you still see the possibility of a resurgence similar to how the Orioles of 2012’ were? I know those were much different circumstances but, it felt like that happened when Adam Jones was 27 or 28 and I believe Nick Markakis being the same age as well. Point being, despite being different players from a most of the Orioles in the Mike Elias era, they had a lot of experience in the MLB at that point.

I also consider the fact that with how new ownership has proven that they’re willing to spend, they might not feel like they need to do a “fire sale” anymore since they can acquire talent in the offseason more competently as well as this impending strike where, a new salary cap/salary minimum could have a major effect in the offseason beyond just the Orioles which could fundamentally change how baseball teams are formed across baseball. I could be completely wrong but, I see the offseason of the MLB looking a lot more like the NFL where, you see more teams across the league making splashy moves, even the so called “small market” teams of baseball since they’d be required to hit a certain threshold of their payroll?

That’s all to say that, they might be able to make auxiliary signings similar to a team like the Cubs or Cardinals while trusting in their farm system to produce *enough* talent to fill in the gaps? I could see turnarounds for baseball teams in a salary cap era having much shorter rebuilds on average but I’m also no expert lol. Anyways, this is *not* a doom post about the current team and more a “hopium” about the future of the Orioles with their current core of players. Happy 4th of July and stay cool if you’re in Maryland 🥵🔥✌️

Will Jackson Holliday be the most disappointing #1 prospect in recent memory, or can he turn it around?

There have been a lot of issues the past few years with the Orioles, but for me, the baffling one is that Jackson Holliday just can't seem to get anything going. He's still young but closing in on 1000 ABs, which by that time, most players seem to be who they're going to be.

The guy must have true talent: the 3 guys below him on the MLB "top prospect list" for 2024 are Chourio/Skenes/Caminero. All total studs. I'd think he'd at least be able to stick as an MLB regular. After all, pretty much any player who has climbed to #1 overall prospect has shown he's a "can't miss" guy in the minors. Before Jackson, it was Gunnar, Bobby Jr., Wander Franco, Vladdy, Shohei, Benintendi, Corey Seager, Bryon Buxton. The only guy that doesn't jump off of that page is Benintendi and even he has 16 WAR. Jackson is < 1.0.

What do you think his issues are? Are they correctable or was he just overhyped as a prospect? I'm not saying we should or should not have drafted him: that draft was very weak. The top pick in 2023 would have been better and Paul Skenes would be pitching for us instead of the Pirates. But that's neither here nor there.

I really wanna know if it was that miscellaneous "illness" he had that was holding him back earlier this season or he was just rusty

Orioles Cap Found

I found this Baltimore Orioles cap on the side of Route 77 near the Spurwink River. The writing on the underside of the brim says “Boston - 18 Baltimore - 10 Mom + ???? Aug 2”. If it’s yours, DM me!

Old Memorial Stadium Baltimore had two famous nicknames: "The Old Gray Lady of 33rd Street” and "The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum".. The urn is made of bronze and holds soil from U.S. military cemeteries around the world. Called “ Memorial Field at the Y “ now

Orioles Fan from Mexico

Hey everyone!

I’ve been around this community for a little while, but I realized I’ve never properly introduced myself.

I’ve been an Orioles fan for about seven years now, and it’s been awesome following this team through the highs and the lows. I was wondering if there are any other fans from Mexico here.

It would be great to connect with fellow Mexican O’s fans. Go O’s! 🧡🖤

Minor leagues games on MASN

Really been enjoying watching the minors when the Os aren’t playing. Just turned on the first Frederick Keys game on MASN and got to see Irish hit a homer. I’m in Shenandoah VA and there’s a good amount of Os fans here so having the Keys an hour away is pretty nice. Ain’t the beer cold and let’s go Os!

Michael Bourne assist Joe Angel call?

Really random question but it's one of my favorite calls in Orioles history and I can't find any video or audio of it. Michael Bourne throwing out a Tampa (I think) runner at the plate in the 9th to save the game and Joe Angel going crazy on the radio broadcast. "He got him at the plate! He got him at the plate! He got him at the plate!"

It gets me so amped up and I need it in these dark times. Anyone have a bead on where it might be? I've found it in the past but can't now.

Does anyone still have faith in this team, or are we definitely going to be sellers at the deadline?
