Passat GTE 2017 - Gearbox Fault

Hello ladies and gents,

I’m the proud owner of a 2017 Volkswagen Passat GTE, but unfortunately it recently broke down with a gearbox fault.

The garage carried out a full diagnostic, and these are the fault codes that were found (stored as sporadic faults):

* P060700 – Transmission Control Module Performance
* P07A300 – Transmission Friction Element “A” Stuck On

They also checked Volkswagen’s Technical Product Information (TPI) database but found no relevant bulletins relating to these faults.

A full Guided Fault Finding test was then carried out, and the conclusion was that the transmission mechatronic unit has suffered an internal failure. The garage has recommended replacing the TCM/mechatronic unit with a brand-new one.

Before I commit to such an expensive repair, I wanted to ask if anyone here has experienced these exact fault codes.

* Was it definitely the mechatronic/TCM?

* Has anyone had their mechatronic repaired successfully instead of replaced?

* If so, who carried out the repair, and has it been reliable?

I’ve already contacted TVS Engineering for advice, and they’re reviewing the fault codes to see whether this is a failure they’ve dealt with before and whether the unit may be repairable.

Mentioning im in the UK

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

2013 Passat 2.5 manual transmission interchangeability

Transmission on my Passat is trashed ,
They are hard to find and expensive. But the Jetta and rabbit/golf with the 2.5 have the same a04 transmission with different gearing as far as what I can find online . The gearing in the Passat is ass and probably the least engaging or fun manual transmission car I’ve owned so not having a 4spd with overdrive would be nice .
Can I just buy a used transmission from a junk Jetta or rabbit and swap out the transmission? I know my mileage might be a little worse but I’ll take that over spending close to 2k for a transmission.

Error warnings on start up

Last year I was having issues where one morning the car was completely flat, before this the engine management light had been coming on. The battery was changed and seemed to have fixed the issues.

A few weeks later the engine management light would appear every so often and this remained the case for about 7 or 8 months, until again the battery was going completely flat overnight. Diagnostics showed a fan to be replaced which was done about 3 weeks ago.

Engine management light started to appear again. Gone again another day. Now when I start the car all these error warnings are coming up but I can still drive. However it doesn't feel safe. Sometime the errors don't appear.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't feel the mechanic has spent enough time diagnosing the issues as it seems to be electrical or fuse based on what I can find online.

It's really frustrating and its the main car.. would anyone have an idea of even a process of elimination of what should be done to diagnose it?

I don't believe the battery was the issue in the first place (maybe wrong) but some other underlying problem.

One thing to add I feel like I can hear a click in the cabin usually when turning the wheel which sounds like a faulty light bulb going on and off randomly..

Thanks!

UPDATE: brought it in today, diagnostics showed abs wheel sensor as some have mentioned so that's been replaced. Hoping this is it with the issues....(not overly confident!)

Should I buy??? 07 Passat Wagon 3.6L 4motion

Hello All!

Posting here just to see people’s opinion. There’s an 07 Passat wagon 3.6l for sale near me and they’re asking 3200. I’ve been watching the listing for a couple weeks, they were initially asking for 4300. It ticks my boxes as it’s got a relatively unique engine (VR6), it’s AWD, and it’s a wagon/estate which are are inherently cool 😎. It’s got 128000 miles on it, 1 owner, and service records seem ok on it, no accidents either, and at least from the pics there’s no rust. I’ve already got two vehicles so this would be purely as a for fun vehicle. I’ve done a little bit of research and they seem to be mostly reliable but with a couple fatal errors in some cars, namely the improperly torqued/fastened oil pump bolt in some that comes loose and destroys the engine. Theres the typical European wiring/electrical issues that come up too but that’s not too concerning for me personally.

What are people’s thoughts/opinions? Is it worth it? To me it seems like a steal especially for this market, even when they listed it at 4300 I thought so. Does anyone have one? If so are there annoying problems thatve plagued you? And does it take 87 or 91 octane?? Thanks!!!!

Anyone with a 2018 VW Passat GTE 1.4 TSI PHEV had this issue? My AC makes a continuous boiling water/hissing/static noise. It cools and heats fine, but when I change the temp I hear an old door opening/closing sound. Cause? Low refrigerant, actuator, blower, or something else?

Gas Mileage drop. Why?!

Up til last week I had consistently above 40 MPG. Half a tank would last me from Friday to Friday the week after. Then last week it only lasted from Friday to Monday, despite similar distances. It’s currently average 30 something even 27-29 MPG. It’s been drinking a lot of gas these past 2 weeks. I recently switched to another place with less highway so maybe that the gas mileage, but it shouldn’t be that bad.

My driving is the same, and I’m a cruise driver. I realized when the gas mileage dropped, my car tends to move glide faster and more aggressive when my gear is on D.

Looking at purchasing a 2004 Passat Wagon 2.8l v6

I'm looking at purchasing a 2004 Passat Wagon with the 2.8l V6. It is at just over 190k miles and selling for $1,700. He says it runs and drives great. Is this a worthwhile purchase? What things should I look for when checking out the car and test driving it? Any advice?

2015 heater core questions

Hey guys,

2015 NMS TDI, fairly new to me car, noticed the other day that I have no heat. Seems like it’s very slightly warmer on drivers side (also noticed this with the a/c on and cooling?) popped the lower panel off and can see that actuator move when switching from high to any temp. And can feel heat at both tubes so I suspect the core is plugged going across it, but still flowing. Now I know there’s issues with the G13 coolant, but my coolant bottle says G12 on it, so I expect no silicate packets in the bottle?? will there be anything else I will need to look for on the cooling system as far as blockages?

And for the Canadians, where are you guys sourcing your parts? Are there aftermarket cores or do you have to go oem? Same goes for what coolant to run.

Thanks for any help

Need help w my Passat B6 2.0 TDI

So a while ago my dad was driving the car when suddenly the brake pedal became hard and the “low oil pressure, stop engine now” popped up on the dash. Both of these issues occurred simultaneously, and I can’t pinpoint where the problem is and which part to replace. There’s tons of opinions online and almost all have different answers for this problem. Can y’all help me??

2017 Passat R-Line headlamp change question

My Passat is a US assembled model. Most of the videos and other online guidance on changing the driver side bulb show an access opening in the wheel well. Mine does not have that, and the space available for my hand or a tool is so small, I figure there must be a way to do this that I'm missing. Any experience doing this would be appreciated.
