Auto hold active light

Here's my relatively new to me 2012 CFFB Highline TDI, AKÁ The Panther. I was doing some tight maneuvers in someone's driveway at the weekend and managed to scrape up a rear quarter, just the plastic thankfully, on a concrete gatepost. I live rurally and I've been driving estate for years. What happened? Auto-hold didn't do it's job as a I changed gear. I drifted back and crunch. Never would have happened if I had a proper handbrake.

Has anyone managed to add a light to the dash which shows clearly when auto-hold is engaged? It's not a huge amount of use knowing it's on! This isn't the only time it's failed to switch on, but the first time it's been an issue. TIA!

B7 Passat, oily/exhaust smell idling at lights or stop signs.

Just as the title says, my 1.8t Passat has recently started to smell a bit while idling. I’ve owned it since 43,000 miles. It now has 144,000 miles. No excessive oil consumption, no CEL’s, no real issues at all.

I’m fairly mechanically inclined; any suggestions on where to start searching to remedy this situation?

I plan on testing the PCV and visually inspecting for oil leaks. Could it be an issue with the exhaust?

Engine cooked?

Anyone able to give me an idea on what this could be? Sounds like knocking whenever I let off the gas and I’m moving, hoping it could be a suspension component given I’m at 150k miles and I’m sure nothing has been replaced. At a stop idle is smooth and there is no noise and it’s not as bad when I’m on the gas more so when I let off the gas and am coasting. Thanks in advance

Valente just hit 220k miles! Wish him and me 100k more

Bought it with 100k miles when I was 17 and never left me stranding. From Eureka to San Diego, Malibu to Mammoth lakes, we’ve been all over the place .Right now codes I got are p000a and p0327. Any hints? Btw he is pampered with oil changes every 4k miles. Engine is 2.0 FSI.

B5.5 clank when coming to a stop

Hi all, I have a 2003 passat (AWF manual) that I've had for a decade and half. Over the years I've gotten used to the noises the front suspension can make when things are wearing out. Over the last year it's had all new front suspension arms, except for the top two on the RHS (still to do due to a stock issue). Also replaced the transmission mounts and one of the sway bar links.

It's mostly noise free now but one thing hasn't gone away and that is a metal clank when the car comes to a stop under gentle/normal braking, occasionally felt through the pedals. This happens just as the car stops, not when the brakes are first applied. It's very difficult to tell where this is coming from as it doesn't do it all the time but it appears to be coming from the front LHS. It does not make this sound under any other conditions. Hard braking it won't do it at all. It seems to be more frequent when the car has been driven for a while but will occasionally do it 'cold'.

My gut says it is a brake pad or the caliper on the front left wheel but I've had the wheel off to check fitment and cannot see anything wrong with the brakes. I also can't see any signs of harsh movement such as shiny metal (I'm in the UK so everything is rusty all the time).

Would be happy to hear if anyone has experienced the same thing or if anyone has any ideas before I replace the front brakes and possibly calipers!

How to verify battery drain issue?

I’ve installed an RCD330 and swapped the gateway in my VW Passat B6. How do I check if I’m going to run into battery drain issues? Is there a way to verify it without any extra tools?

Everything seems the same so far - I can still use the radio with the ignition off, and my phone keeps charging.

Chrome delete

I’m sure this has been covered but can’t seem to find the info I’m looking for. Recently picked up a 15 NMS tdi high line. Some of the chrome trim is in rougher shape so going to do the old Chrome delete. I will vinyl wrap what I have to but would prefer to replace parts, so in saying that. Does anyone know where to get black badges, preferably not covers but actual badges. And a black grill (can be badge-less) or has anyone run a stock one with the chrome trim removed? And does anyone know if any model or trim came with black window trim that would fit (something euro??) links and part numbers greatly appreciated.

Edit for clarity: unsure if I’m going to full murdered out (not like there’s any blacked out tail lights available) may leave the window trim, but the lower chrome is going to go, and as I had previously stated would like to do black grille and badges. Also if anyone has pictures with gunmetal or bronze wheels as the stocks will get winters wrapped around them.

Good deal at $4300?

4300 out the door.155k miles on it. I want a car that will last me a few years. Will do ODM testing to see if there are any surface issues. Im not worried about the tear on the drivers seat.
In today’s used car market, a junk car that drives costs 2500-3000.
Can this car be reliable for a few years?

Goodbye my dear .

Sold my Passat two years ago on impulse. I ended up buying it back because I just couldn’t let it go.

Today, I had to sell it again since I already have another car. Feeling really sad. It wasn’t my first car, not even my first Passat, but this one was special. It was pure pleasure to drive, never let me down, and even saved my life a couple of times.

Goodbye.

2012 Passat sel (B7) Cluster replacement..immo 4

Replacing the CAN and Cluster (immo 4A) in my 2012 Passat SEL. I have access to VCDS ross-tech coding platatform, trying to ensure the swap goes smoothly. I was under the impression that my keys can be reprogrammed for the new immobilizer, but my neighbor's girlfriend knows a VW mechanic and he told her i would have to replace the ignition cylinder and get a new set of keys.. does anybody know definitively if that's true?

Passat 2016 wont start or jump?

I have a 2016 passat last night at a gas station I had to get jumped since the car would not start by itself. Lights, radio and everything works fine but the engine won't start.

I figured it must be the battery so I was going to get one today but again the car would not start. Tried jumping it w my mom's car but now it does not crank. It says "ignition on" and that's it.

Anyone knows what that means?

Passat 2014 tdi sel. What is this sound?

Outta nowhere after 10 min highway drive i started getting this sound. The harder i press the gas pedal the louder it gets. After turning off the car and coming back after 10 min it was gone and after 2 days of driving its still gone. Wondering if its the turbo? Car is at 160k miles very well maintaned.

Can anyone help identify this sound

If I step off the gas pedal it starts making this hissing like sound. Pressing the brake also adds to this. When accelerating it disappears.

2016 VW Passat 1.6 TDI (157k km) – Reliable or a money pit at this mileage?

I’m considering a 2016 VW Passat Comfortline and want to know if it’s a safe buy or if I should expect major repairs soon.

Specs:

Engine: 1.6 TDI (120 hp)

Transmission: DSG Automatic (7-speed)

Mileage: 157,000 km

Price: €7,900

Condition & History:

Full VW service history (every service done at an authorized dealer).

Body has some dents/cosmetic damage.

Mechanically feels solid, but the mileage is high.

My Questions:

Transmission: How reliable is the 7-speed DSG (DQ200) at 157k km? Is a major failure (Mechatronic/Clutches) likely soon?

Engine: Is the 1.6 TDI engine "tough" enough to reach 250k+ km, or do things like the DPF and injectors start failing now?

Maintenance: Since it has a perfect VW history, can I trust it more than a lower-mileage car with a messy history?

Price: Is €7,900 fair for a dented Passat with this mileage?

Idling noise

Hi all. Picked up this 2015 2.0 TDI B8 Passat a few weeks ago and only noticed this chirping noise at idle coming from the left side of the car in the passenger footwell just trying to see if this is a common issue or what can be done to fix it? Thanks.
