Before and after Chairry

I ordered a box full of used Pee-wee’s Playset figures. They were pretty dirty and all came clean after a light scrubbing in dish detergent. Well, except Chairry.

I was nervous about scrubbing too much since she’s covered in flocking that was already coming off her arms.

Any idea how to clean her without taking off more flocking? I gave her a short soak in some warm water and oxiclean, which helped a lot.

I watched a video where someone re-flocked the hair of a 1960s Ken doll and it doesn’t look too hard.

Added Shaun Weiss to my original Pee-wee's Playhouse script today.

He played the little kid named Elvis in season 1, he has now joined Paul Reubens and Lynne Stewart as signers.

Everything my 3.5 yr-old said watching Pee-wee’s Big Adventure for the first time

(We skipped Large Marge and nightmare sequences)

“Pee-wee’s racing with his friends”

“Pee-wee’s gonna be the queen.”

“Why there’s fishes outside?”

“Pee-wee likes to do unsafe things.”

“Pancakes on the ceiling?!”

“Is that the Pee-wee 5,000?”

“He isn’t holding on with his hands.”

“Where’s Pee-wee’s bike?”

“Pee-wee’s clothes are getting wet.”

“Where’s Pee-Wee’s bike?”

“I saw his bike but they went past it.”

“It got dark. They drived the whole day.”

“Where’s Pee-wee’s bike?”

[Scrub through Large Marge]

“Hey, there’s his Dino friends.”

“Did the ghost get his bike?”

“He lost his bike and now it’s taken.”

“Au revoir means bye in French.”

“I think they’re in his Dino friend.”

“That’s what my mouth looks like inside.”

“Where’s his bike? I think that Dino friends ate it. Maybe it’s not his Dino friend.”

[Long discussion about why the dinosaurs can’t come with Pee-wee on the rest of his journey.]

“I don’t know where his bike is.”

“This is the land of toys.”

“It’s sunny there now.”

“Pee-wee doesn’t say buenos dias. He’s thinking about his bike.”

“But where his bike? And when are the dinosaurs going to talk?”

“He has more friends to meet.”

“He can’t remember his name.”

“I think that was a stick ball.” [tumbleweed]

“Oh no.” [motorcycles]

“He’s actually dancing.”

[Scrub through nightmare]

“His bike is there!”

“There’s a knight.”

“When’s he gonna live in the brontosaurus’s mouth?”

“There’s Pee-wee’s bike. He’s going to snatch it.”

“Elephants.”

“They’re trying to stop Pee-wee but his bike is fast.”

“Oh no. They’re getting closer.”

“His bike has two handles.”

“His bike is going through the forest. That’s where his Dino friends live.”

“I think Pee-Wee’s going downhill and setting his trap.”

“There’s Santa.”

“Look at the monsters.”

“He’s going where the Dinos live.”

“He’s letting the animals come out. That’s unsafe to do.”

“Those animals are just pretend.”

“But who took his bike here to New York City?”

“He lost his bike for a while.”

“There’s two Pee-wee movies?” [drive-in]

“Now there’s the condiment king.”

“The ninjas got trappers.”

“Where’s his Dino friends?”

“I think that’s Pee-wee.” [bellhop]

“He’s gonna ride his bike home now.”

Which shows do you think are similar to Pee-wee's Playhouse?

I started watching At Home With Amy Sedaris and couldn't help but draw comparisons. She is so talented and funny, her interior design is always so quirky, and I think the show feels a bit like an homage to Pee-wee's Playhouse. Sesame Street is the first predecessor that comes to my mind with the puppets and various random segments, some animated. I also know Scott Aukerman is a fan of Paul Reubens and has featured him on his show Comedy Bang! Bang! Maybe also the show Kablam! but haven't seen it in a while...

Anyway, what are some shows that remind you of Pee-wee's Playhouse or think a fan would also enjoy? Something like psychedelic, multi-media, kid's show, crazy design, or a memorable fun host?

Cheers!
