What do you think Pennywise’s real weaknesses are? (Ritual of Chüd, belief, or something else?) What actually works against it?
I’ve been thinking about this after revisiting IT, especially how different interpretations seem to exist around what actually works against Pennywise.
We obviously see the Ritual of Chüd presented as a key element, but even within the story it feels… complicated. It’s not like a straightforward “weapon” that just wins the fight. At times it almost feels more symbolic than mechanical.
Then there’s the idea that belief, fear, and imagination play a much bigger role in Pennywise’s power and limits. The kids’ ability to confront It mentally seems just as important as anything physical or ritual-based.
So I’m curious how others read it.

The Shining + IT
This excerpt is from one of the final chapters of The Shining. I can’t help but wonder if this is a nod to Pennywise?? Was Jack possessed by the demons within the hotel or were the apparitions themselves just variations of “It”? Wondering if anyone who’s read The Shining has ever considered this, especially with Dick Hallorann having connections to Derry.

Could the IT franchise spark a cinematic expansion of The Shining and Doctor Sleep stories?
Could dick halloranns presence in it welcome to Derry and the use of the shine from dick and pennywise lay the groundwork for a cinematic universe ?

I am writing an it/pennywise novel that i will upload here on r/pennywise when complete
I plan to be done writing the novel within the next 20 or so days it will connect to a novel I wrote earlier called the rooms outback the one I uploaded to r/TrueBackrooms and basically the story behind the novel im writing is after it was in the backrooms for several weeks the fear generated from the people in there basically gave it/pennywise immense power and basically it broke free from Derry and is going basically town to town wiping the entire place out practically within a day until it come to Clarkston a mega city with thousands of people living there the novel will revolve around it/pennywise trying to kill everyone there and a group of kids eventually figuring it out and trying to stop it before it kills everyone in Clarkston

I keep seeing Pennywise described as a “cosmic god” or “Lovecraftian deity,” but when you actually look at cinematic Pennywise (movies + Welcome to Derry), that label doesn’t really fit what we’re shown.
