Newb question...

I want to start grafting seedlings for propagation and fun. I got some peres cuts and rooted them. Once rooted I am cutting at about 6 inches or where it begins to get thinner, and leaving these in their own pots to become moms.

Is this the best way to create mother plants (short thick stalks hopefully spitting out thick pups)? Does anyone have tips and tricks on getting them as fat as possible? Does in ground give way thicker plants? I have messed with peres here and there but I never figured out how to get them super thick.

Discrimination on grafts?

These are some of my Copiapoa grafted onto Pereskiopsis. I know grafting can be a bit of a divisive topic in the cactus community, so I'm genuinely curious.

Do you avoid buying grafted plants, or do you see them as a useful tool for faster growth, propagation, and conservation? If you do discriminate against grafts, what's your reasoning?

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts—whether you're for them, against them, or somewhere in the middle?

Finally!!! I accomplished my first hybrid of Crested Pereskiopsis x Quiabentia. The superficial fruits took a lot longer than any other typical cactus fruit. 1st year flowers on both. 2nd yr fruits starting. 3rd yr ,today, mature fruits with seeds.

Why do they randomly start leaning?

This is east facing, decently shaded by oak trees. I moved them to full sun (south facing, zone 8b, surface of the sun heat) at one point and a few started to droop.

I’m guessing they either got too hot or too much sun, but I wanted to ask. I’ve dealt with this for 3 years. I’ve come to figure out that no matter where they are, some will randomly droop. Here is the maddening part: they will seemingly droop from too much rain, droop from not enough rain, too much sun, not enough sun… or so it seems. I’ve got pere cuttings I’ve tossed that have survived with zero intervention from me, so I know they are tough lol. I just can’t seem to keep them all upright at the same time.

Sorry for writing a novel!
