SCAMMER ON THREADS
PSA: Please be careful when posting on buying on Threads - Decluttering PH (crossposting to other platforms as well for more awareness)
i have been shopping for Camera Gear and ive found a post selling Camera Lens. i shouldve flagged the price as too good to be true but i opted to check as i was hoping ive found a good bargain.
i sent a DM and then they were cordial at first, she was accommodating and fast to reply. i thought i struck a bargain as the Lens Price was 20% CHEAPER.
Not 30mins into the discussion, the seller showed signs that she was on a rush and needed to get rid of the item, and was being contacted by other buyers on threads.
We exchanged Names, numbers and address information
THIS IS WHERE EVERYTHING STARTED TO BE FISHY AND I SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER
The Seller sent a set of ID and asked if i could also send my identification cards for his "peace of mind" i was adamant but as he was very polite, i opted to send what he requested
The seller then started to push for downpayment to "secure the slot" and as proof that i am a legit buyer.
this is where i started to get a whiff that something is wrong. I told the the seller im not comfortable with that setup and id rather meetup in a public location
Than this is where things started to get messy.
the seller insisted that she had already refused may inquiries to make up for my query, and that she needs the money. one reason after the other, she kept berating me and pushing for me to send money.
At one point she even said, she has booked a rider and i need to send the money so that he can send the item to me. after which the discussion became more of a threat, demanding i send the money and i comply even gaslighting me that i wasn't playing fair and i was taking taking advantage of her.
as we went on back and forth with this, i finally decided to decline and step away from the conversation. This is where things went form bad to absolute hell.
the seller became a scammer. he/she started sending my Linkedin profile, pictures of my partner, i felt a chill and i found out that my Threads profile was public and i have tagged her on multiple posts. this continued and the blackmail started. after a few minutes, i faced a call from my partner saying that there has been multiple replies to her threads profile, and to make matters worse, the replies claimed that i was availing PAID SEX/PROSTITUTE and that i was being unfaithful. Thread messages, telegram messages and even gotyme transaction screenshots were sent across several dummy accounts.
as i am clearing this mess, please be careful of these profiles and be careful on providing your details online.
