piercing advice

Hey guys,
I’ve had my navel pierced three times now and I’m looking for some opinions before I try again.
The first time was in summer 2024. I got a traditional navel piercing, but about a month later I went swimming and it became badly infected, so I ended up removing it.
I got it redone in April 2025. This one lasted around 9 months. There was some migration, but I honestly thought it was still healing. My piercer told me to downsize the jewelry, which I’m not sure was the right call, and after that it eventually rejected. I removed it again.
About a month later, I got it repierced. At the time, I didn’t know you were supposed to wait until the tissue had fully healed before getting it redone. This time I got a floating navel instead of a traditional one, but it rejected within 2–3 months.
Looking back, I think the main reason it rejected was because I didn’t wait long enough between piercings. Another thing I’ve noticed is that my piercer tends to place my navel piercings very shallow, with very little tissue being pierced.
My question is: if I wait until October and give the area plenty of time to fully heal, would it be worth trying a floating navel again with a different piercer? Has anyone had multiple navel piercings reject and then eventually had one heal successfully?
I’d love to hear your experiences or any advice.
