Concept for a 1v1 pinball game

Had this idea for a pinball game that's essentially two pinball machines put together, where you score by outlasting the opponent.

This idea looks like it has been explored before, but not nearly as much as I would've expected. I think there are a lot of possibilities with this concept in terms of unique elements & minigames in the play area.

One thing I thought of is a "shot clock" where you have to get the ball over to the other player's side in a certain amount of time or lose a point, to avoid stalling or hogging the ball to complete objectives.

Any ideas or problems you would see with this concept?

Progress on TAF restore/refurb and succumbed to "more is more"

I've been slowly, diligently making my way through cleaning up, fixing and restoring the Addams Family I posted about months ago here : https://www.reddit.com/r/pinball/comments/1t6mzvf/first_pin_30ish_year_dream/

I've replaced all the bulbs with LEDs, fixed whatever socket issues I found. Cleaned, cleaned, cleaned and waxed the playfield and installed the Cliffy's as needed (thanks Cliff!). Rubbers replaced and most targets aligned. The subwoofer ... LOL. The sub cone had completely separated so that was replaced. Some of the wire gates were problematic so those were fixed, mostly. There were a few wiring problems, just solder had let go so those were fixed up. A few blown fuses. It has the collector edition ROM and sound ROM in it: I'm not sure I'll keep that. Put a set of the metal protectors between leg and box. The playfield ... holy hell all that dirt really protected the playfield! LOL It's insane how little true wear there is.

I still have one of the wire gates to adjust ... it works but the switch trigger is too high. I know I need to replace a lot of the targets which seems a little overwhelming right now. Probably coming up on time to service the flippers but they are fine for now. The glass has some deep scratches I couldn't polish out so that'll come in time. I also have been debating the art blades, probably will since the inside black is a bit busted. The white on the backboard isn't really white anymore so I think I'm going to paint it, as it didn't clean up for shit.

But while I was doing all that I popped into a local-ish game store to check out an Aurora and ... well, Harry cast a spell on me. It's nice to have a brand-new game that requires almost nothing so I can actually keep going on TAF 😄

Thanks for all the messages, advice, support etc. on the first post. I took a lot away from it, helped me tons, as has the sub in general. 🤩

*I posted the pics in comments as they didn't come along with the original post for whatever reason.

Stern & Sony. Disc-less consoles and Pinball Machine DLC. But were okay with it?

Am I the only one that feels like pinball machines having multiple editions with full on gameplay changes between the editions and even worse, Stern offering PAYWALLED GAME CODE on their machines, which again, already have 3 different editions, is absolutely the same way the video game industry started with their bs?

Just like the video game industry, the gamers didn't speak up until now, where we don't own the games and were being forced into all digital. Stern and others is already chopping up what they're making to force you to pay extra for this or that on day one, how much longer until they figure out more ways to micro-monetize their pinball machines? How long until they start offering a home digital version of their machines with a monthly fee while jacking up the price of the physical machines to price out normal people?

Please vote with your wallet. I can't stand to see another incredible hobby die to this kind of bs.

During reassembly after doing "some" work to my Stellar Wars, I noticed something doesn't make sense

It matches my reference pic I took before doing any work, but I didn't notice until I ran a ball through. Does anyone have a closeup shot of that area they could post so I can see where the wireforms go? I haven't been able to find a good shot on the internet.

Pictures are 'before', a gratuitous mid work gore pic, and it's current state

Bally Lost World

I have a bally lost world pinball machine that powers on and the lights all activate but the game does not react at all to the start game button. This machine used to work fine. It initially started having some weirdness on the scoring counters not displaying or at the least being intermittent. Now the machine is a lovely lamp. Any guidance on where I should start when diagnosing the problem would be greatly appreciated.

JAWS “4th of July Challenge” pretty cool….

I like how the American flag is always lit, and the playfield colors go red-white- and blue ! Pretty neat how the game is timed too, I like it 👍

First Home Pinball?

So I’m considering buying a pinball machine for my home.

I have two young girls 7 and 5 and figured it would be fun.

Question what would be a great home game that we wouldn’t get sick of? I like the more modern machines with the screens and all the bling. I see the new Sonic and that looks crazy good in the CE edition.

Others I seen that look good got kids would be Jurassic Park, Jaws (not so much for my kids but looks awesome), Pokémon but I’ve been reading some not great play reviews about it.

Any other games I should be considering?

Thanks!

Mandelorian GC (is 719m good?) - Looking for 1B next

Soooo, I'll take any and all advice on Mandelorian.

I'm getting pretty good at it I hope.

My strategy is this (to be as brief as possible). I start a mission, then Razor Crest MBs and stack em. You can rack up some SERIOUS points fast, like 100M in a couple minutes that way especially if you use the multipliers.

Blast through missions, and Razor Crest Hurryup. The 2nd and 3rd Hurryups are worth pretty good points (again with multipliers.)

Missions are an awesome way to get score by actually playing through them! It's a well balanced game that way. You're not just 'timing out' modes to get to 'better stuff' and it's FUN.

I can usually get to the 4th Razor Crest MB (Precious Cargo) and/or the 6th Mission (You have something I want) on a good game.

But damn those Encounters are like impossible compared to the rest of the features, no? Like disproportionately so? I've figired out HOW to get them. It's just HARD!

My biggest question is is it WORTH IT? I literally have most games with all missions and/or Razor Crest MBs complete and then maybe only on the SECOND Encounter 😂.

I get you gotta get the yellow targets after lighting Encounter. Then complete them, then the 'bonus mode'. Then it seems a SECOND set of yellows and ANOTHER bonus mode(?) is needed to award the Encounter.

It's tedious, even compared to the DOZENS of Razor Crest shots needed for almost everything.

So does the Encounter wizard mode then do something great and score HUUUUUUGE for all the trouble it is? Then how about the overall wizard mode once you've completed the 3 smaller ones?

Also, do y'all actively aim for the 1x+ targets or just let them 'happen'? I'll go for it if I happen to hit the first one, and during MB. Otherwise only if I'm feeling comfortable and playing well. And have things coming up WORTH multiplying ✖️. You?

Thanks in advance. Fun game 😄

Lord of the Rings longevity? (Thinking about trading for it)

There's a beautiful LOTR near me and the owner is interested in trading for Elton John, which I own and enjoy a lot and haven't owned more than a couple months. I'm also rehabbing a Star Trek premium which is a similar layout to EJ (tho I don't find them reminiscent of one another TBH). Anyways, can anyone speak to the longevity of owning an LOTR?

I think I’m starting to understand why some people call it a pinball “table”…

It seems that’s where all the parts end up! What started as tracking down an unlit pop bumper light on my “new” F-14 Tomcat has turned into a substantial Teardown so at this point I’m rebuilding the flippers, replacing some incorrect coils, touching up playfield paint, doing some mods, doing some bulletproofing, installing a full playfield protector, finishing the LED conversion the previous owner half-did…

New Stern Code

Didn't see a post about this, but Stern dropped new code on what seems to most (all?) recent machines on 7/1. If you own a Spike 2 connected to wifi open the door up and enjoy a modernized settings experience!

I didn't notice this myself until I went in to check play count today.

As a new JP owner using the old fake LED UI was disappointing, but it's great now!

Draining on Transformers

I kept draining the ball as it came down the right side from the ball lock ramp. It would drop off into the out lane before making it to the in lane feeder to the flipper. Or it would come all the way down, then bounce back up and over the side.

Week 4 Owning JAWS: finally broke 500k

EDIT: 500 mil. Whew, what a ride this machine has been, I hit 400m three times a few weeks ago and never got close until today. I caught my first shark last week, and today I almost landed two, and how in the hell does anyone land all 5 sharks ? Holy shit ! It must take at least 30 minutes to accomplish that. Love this game, I can see why its very popular 👍

My submission for dirtiest pinball Playfield competition.

This Godzilla Pro at TimeZone Broadmeadows in Melbourne Australia, is hard to describe in words.

The game looks dark even though the lights are all working, you can just see that there is art under there in spots.

Suprisingly everything seems to work just fine! So someone is maintaining it but never cleaning.
