What year had the largest number of people playing Pinball in the USA?

I'd say we are at a 30yr high right now.

Were there more people playing in the early 90s? At the height of TAF and TZ?

What about the 70s before pac-man fever wrecked pinball? Games were more available back then. Instead of 1-2 arcades with 40-50 games there was a pinball machine in half the diners, bars, drug stores, grocery stores, etc. And more smaller arcades.

And what about the 30s when there was a pinball machine in every bar, which was basically used for gambling. They made massive amounts of games in the 30s. Way more than today.

Medieval Madness - Troll Standup Targets

I received my very first pinball table last week, Medieval Madness! I am learning quickly that pinball is an amazing hobby, but comes with the need to repair and care for often. I am up for the challenge and looking forward to spending many hours with my family chasing high sores on this machine.

One of the issues I experienced while playing today is that the troll standup target decals popped off both posts during a multiball today. I immediately stopped playing, but when I took off the glass to collect them, I could only find one. I must of searched over an hour for the other, but can not find it.

My question is, does anyone know where I can purchase a new set of quality decals? I'd also like some advice on how to attach them to the stand-ups so that they no longer pop off when routinely hit. I am thinking of using 3M 468MP tape, but want to ensure that won't mess something up somehow.

Thanks!

What does a game like this go for?

Hey all, I'm new to the world of pinball. Wondering how much a game like Godzilla 98 can sell for?

It's an awesome game and it's super clean with only a couple hundred plays. But I'm just not sure if it's a great location game.

Dune Arrived, and I'm battling Harkonnen all the time

I'd played a handful of games on a trip to Litt in Minneapolis, but I wasn't ready for how addicting it is as I get a better handle on modes and shots. Its been a really fun addition to the lineup. Well worth the wait for it to be produced.

Question for older players before leaderboards. Are players nowadays better than they used to be?

Nowadays we have leaderboards online. So there is much more visibility to big scores. But I bet there's plenty of phenomenal scores that have been lost to the annals of time. Were there scorers back in the day just as good as we have now?

I think Black Knight is going when Fallout is revealed. Kong has been getting most of my attention lately. Underrated game.

Moving a Stern TMNT Pro into a basement – legs on or off?

Hi everyone,

I’m about to move my Stern TMNT Pro into my basement and would love some advice from people who have done this before.

The staircase is 1 m / 39" wide and U-shaped, with a 180° turn/landing.

I’m considering:

A) Legs attached – carry/move it down the stairs in its normal position, secured with straps.

B) Legs removed – carry it down the stairs with several people.

C) Legs removed – use a hand truck to move it down the stairs.

I’ll have several people helping and proper straps/equipment available.

What would you recommend for a U-shaped staircase like this – legs on or off? And what’s the safest way to handle the 180° turn?

Thanks!

Elton John is at DenOfPin

Needs some cleaning & a few minor repairs but ready to get some games on it. Franchi's art packacge on this doesn't seem to get talked about much but might be his prettiest art on a pin.

New Jaws 50th Anniversary - Stickers letting Loose

Im new to pinball and got my first machine: Jaws 50th Anniversary Edition. I absolutely love the gameplay and artwork. It will also be my only machine. I picked this machine for the gameplay and artwork (its different than most other machines, less cartoony, looks great in the office).

One problem: the stickers are letting loose after 3 months.

The supplier is helping a lot and gave me few options:

- Return the machine for a full refund
- Exchange the machine for a new Jaws Non 50th
- Take the machine apart and apple the new stickers by a specialist and hope it will look good, no guarentee (both the top and side stickers are letting loose).

Im leaning towards new stickers by a professional, although im not sure how hard this is and what the changes of succes are?

My other thought was to tape over the edge the machine + tape over the sticker and apply supperglue.

Are there any know methods in the pinball world to fix this?

Leaving it as is would seriously devalue the machine is my guess. Besides that it looks ugly.

Stern speaker upgrade

I recently purchased the Kenwood speaker upgrade for my Deadpool. It is the $114 option that Pinball Life have with the LEDs on the speaker inserts.

Installation was super easy but just wondering if they are supposed to linked to any type of game play or just added sound and LEDs that either keep to a solid colour or pulse.

My shot inaccuracy is driving me mad - how do I figure out what I'm doing wrong?

I am extremely consistent at being inaccurate with my shots and I'm getting so frustrated that at times I have to take extended breaks from playing and even consider quitting. I have really good ball control and nudge habits, which occasionally results in me being able to put up some pretty high scores, but those games are mixed in with a lot of mediocre games and always a ton of inaccuracy.

Here is what it looks like for me in practice, which is fairly consistent across all machines

  1. Shots that are around the middle of the playfield I can shoot likely 85-90% of the time. Examples would be Theature of Magic trunk, middle ramp, lane that goes around the trunk and captive ball. Jaws boat/shark bash toy, chum bucket and middle ramp.

  2. Shots to the left of the playfield - roughly 30-35% accuracy. Almost always miss to the right just a bit, so shooting early. Good examples would be Jaws wave ramp and leftmost shot (not an orbit exactly but like the orbit shot)

  3. Shots to the right of the playfield - roughly 10-20% accuracy. These misses are completely varied, sometimes too early sometimes too late. Good example would be Theature of Magic right ramp and right orbit, Medeival Madness princess ramp (right ramp), Jaws fishing reel and right Quint's Shack shot. I can miss these shots over and over and over again.

How do I improve this? I watched Tim Sexton's video about watching just the flipper and the release point of the ball, but even trying that I'm still struggling. And I have problems knowing exactly where to release on the flipper even when watching it because it seems some shots (like Jaws right orbit Quint's Shack shot), there is such a tiny minute difference in the spot on the flipper that results in it making the shot vs missing to the left or to the right. Also the ball speed seems to make knowing the exact spot on the flipper hard to hammer down.
