Butters on a very polite day
Butters patiently waits with polite paws to enjoy his daily dose of night time treats. It would be much appreciated for feasting to commence sooner than later. Baby ears at rest, and polite, distinguished paws await the great snackage. Please offer the bun his delicacies posthaste.
Rule 1 wording update
Bun tax of a very sophisticated bun I have saved on my phone.
First, and most importantly, I want to thank everyone here for posting in this community. It’s growing quickly, and becoming the haven I hoped it could be for the classiest buns everywhere! This subreddit is a bright spot to my day, and hopefully to yours as well!
However. I’ve been noticing a rather unfortunate pattern in the past few months. People will post their absolutely adorable bun and a random title. Nothing in it to say that the bun is polite, even though I’m sure they are. The comments are definitely pointing out the politeness, which is awesome!
But I really want this subreddit, and posts to this subreddit, to stand out in people’s feeds. This isn’t just one more bun subreddit, this is specifically the subreddit for the classiest buns on the internet. I want people to see a post from here in their feeds and immediately know the bun is a true gentlebun. That’s why rule 1 exists, to distinguish us from the HEATHENS over at r/bunnyshaming, r/murderbuns, r/greedybuns, and other scandalous bunreddits. I call out the worst offenders so you can avoid them and definitely not join them all too. And whatever you do, don’t click the link in our sidebar with the ultimate list of every bun-focused subreddit under the sun!
I tried warning people with a polite comment under their posts, notifying them that it wasn’t a massive deal, but that I’d appreciate it if future posts talked about how the bun was polite in some way.
The result was that those users stopped posting here. Which is sad.
And I have a firm belief that if there’s a trend in the subreddit, it’s on the moderation team for not making the rules clear enough. So, ultimately, this trend is on me. People don’t tend to read all the text of the rules before posting. How do I know? Because I do it myself. I just skim the titles of the rules and then post.
SO!
With that in mind, I’m making a small change to the wording of rule 1.
Here’s the old version:
>Buns should be polite
>We don’t do chaos goblins, adorable as they are, please make sure to mention somewhere in your post title about how polite your bun is.
Want chaos goblins specifically? Try r/bunnyshaming. Or r/murderbuns. Or the brand new r/GreedyBuns.
And here’s the (hopefully) clearer, reworked version.
>Your title should describe what makes your bun a gentlebun
>Please include something in your title or body describing your bun’s sterling character. What makes them polite, civilized, sophisticated, classy, gentlebunly, impeccably mannered, or otherwise worthy of polite society? Everybun needs a character reference!
For rabbits of a more criminal disposition, try r/bunnyshaming, r/murderbuns, or r/GreedyBuns.
This rule isn’t meant to be enforced with an iron paw. I'd like to run on good faith here, so please try and stick to it as best you can. If you break it accidentally, no big deal. We all make mistakes. If you make a habit of breaking it, though, I might have to step in.
This post is to tell you how things have changed and to give people an opportunity to provide feedback on the changes. So please, let me know your thoughts! Does it help, seem too strict, seem unclear, or something else?
I'm also torn. Should we stick with title OR body, or just title? In theory, I'm totally cool with people saying something in their body section about how their bun is polite, but then that might continue the issue where we don't exactly stand out on people's feeds. Honestly, as I'm thinking about it, I'm leaning more towards requiring title only, because the title sets the identity of the post on someone's feed. Title OR body sounds much more inviting, but I really want to help this subreddit have a distinctive identity. I dunno. Let me know your thoughts, I guess.
Or just comment how you like his lil bow tie. Seriously, it’s really cute. Generally, it’s not a good idea to put any kind of collar on bunnies, but I recall the original poster of this image said it’s a very loose bow tie they put on for like five seconds, took the picture, and then removed it. So I can enjoy the cuteness with a guilt-free conscience. Now if I could just remember who posted it...
Edit: wow I actually found it! Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/politebuns/comments/1rvyu2q/i_am_not_a_regular_bun_i_am_a_gentlebun_ᯓ/
Credit to u/Flemishmommy for the cutest gentlebun! 10/10, if someone hadn't already made the subreddit icon, this would probably be it.
