Recommendation for buying a drilling tool or impact tool .

Hi guys ,

We are shifting to another house and there were places where we would like to install stand in bathroom for holding soaps and all and outside we want to setup some lamps , so basically I want a tool that I can use to drill a hole in concrete and a tool that I can use to drill a hole in bathroom tiles . Which tool would you suggest me to buy. I am from India , so if you suggest any product that is available in india and is sold online , I will look into it and buy.

Thanks

battery powered circular saw for plywood

I got today a Kobalt 4.5 in compact circular saw to cut some plywood. I used it with a full 4Ah 24V Max Extended Run battery.

But I still couldn't make 3 full cuts on the width (4 ft cut) of my 1/2 in sheet of plywood. I think I set the depth of cut to maximum so I cut too deep which may have drained battery too fast. Mid way through the 3rd cut, the saw just stopped as if starved for power.

The battery pack was still at 3 bars (over 4) of power.

Do you expect this? Do you think it is because I set the cut too deep causing way too much friction? Or are these tools just bad.

The usage I am looking for out of the tool is rough cutting plywood on the parking lot of the store so I can fit it in my car. So I don't need 100s of cuts. But 3 seems too little.

Any opinion?

Cheers!

Oscillating tool brand advice

New-ish to power tools here - recently widowed, having to tackle some jobs my husband used to do, without hiring a handyman for some small inside jobs. (I deal w/moderately hard/complicated garden jobs OK)

I need to cut down a baseboard to fit a new HVAC vent. Rather than removing the baseboard and using the circular saw, or a hand saw (we don't have a jig saw), someone recommended getting an oscillating tool. It looks like that would be a handy thing to have. (We don't have a sawzall, and I'm not sure I want one). I already have an 18V Ridgid drill and - for some reason - we also have a 20V Black and Decker drill set. It seems it'd be reasonable to get another tool that would work with one of these battery systems, right? I know they aren't as high end as DeWalt or Kyobi, but would one of them suffice? and if so, is there a reason to choose one over another?

My husband was a scientist and willingly (and safely) tackled everything from plumbing to electrical to minor construction (not carpentry), but he wasn't really a "gotta have a bunch of fun tools" guy, so I feel like I may need get some more things to make life a little easier. Or I need to swallow my pride and hire things out - but I'd rather see what I can do on my own!

Thanks in advance!

Is makita not as good as dewalt and Milwaukee?

I have been looking into buying some tools recently for my job and come across makita dewalt and Milwaukee. I have seen good stuff about them all but I keep seeing people saying makita is terrible and has no power compared to the other 2. In the uk it’s mainly dewalt and some makita with little to no Milwaukee on the sites I’ve worked on. Which is the best tool brands that I should buy?

Best small shop vac built-to-last?

We bought a small 2.5 gallon craftsman and it broke after maybe 4 uses and lost its suction even when we changed out the filter bag. Honestly, was a piece of junk. Craftsman has some more expensive lineups than the 2.5 gallon, but not sure if it’s worth it considering our luck with the small one. We want something compact and small (we don’t have space in our apartment). Needs to also last a while and not tank out like the one we just had. Any recommendations?

Should I sell my craftsman tools and buy greenworks?

Walmart just recently started stocking this brand called Greenworks specifically the “pro” series. I’ve seen a guy in YouTube do a torque test on it compared to other big brands and it was pretty much keeping up with dewalt. The guy tore the tools apart and said the internals were kinda premium too. Has anyone done a stress test on the gw pros?

Ryobi Drill Issue

I am from Australia and I recently bought a ryobi drill for casual household use. But when I went to drill into a post on my fence using the correct drill bit, it barely drilled a 10mm hole and then started smoking . I searched online to see if there was any solutions l. But then I realised that my drill doesn't have the torque adjuster thingy, I then searched online to see the exact model of it and I couldn't find my model anything anywhere. Why is my drill different to every other drill model I see online. And why can't my drill, drill through wood easily as the others???

Ryobi vs Harbor Freight

My old Chicago Electric stuff died and I’m looking at going all in on a platform. I’m mostly an around the house and garage guy, I’m sure dewalt and Milwaukee are the best long term choice but I don’t have that kind of money and or need to really replace the things I need with those brands. So I’m left with Ryobi and Harbor freights brands, Home Depot currently has a pretty good deal on a full kit of brushless tools with a couple batteries. Harbor freight doesn’t have much of a deal currently but it I have inside track and the tools go on sale often enough for me to piecemeal something together at a higher price but over time. Looking for a drill, driver, circular saw, 1/2 inch high torque impact and a recip is a bonus, I’d probably expand from there but those would be the first things on my list.
