Bruce Wayne- council race

Bruce Wayne- council race

I read the story and looked back through his social posts.

I'll give him credit for engaging before the election and talking with voters. It sounds like he's been attending council meetings to better understand the role he's seeking.

I don't agree with his videos. Will he turn off the Meta glasses if he's talking to someone and they ask?

I'm concerned about assertions like open and closed-door decision making given how specific the Community Charter is on that issue. On the CN Centre repair loan, if his position is that it should have gone to referendum, what alternative does he propose when infrastructure requires expensive repairs and citizens vote it down?

I'm also curious about his use of the term "special interests." A group advocating for a stoplight or traffic calming could reasonably be called a special interest group. The question isn't whether groups have particular interests, but how Council weighs competing interests transparently and makes decisions in the broader public interest.

CentreBC - What do we think?

Bernier was an MLA in the Peace for a long time and lost to a nobody. I’m not a conservative or even a centrist, but I do long for the days when our Conservative Party weren’t religious zealots.

CORRECTION: It was Dan Davies who lost to a sexual predator.

Finishing Up CityOfPG F&A

Last Finance and Audit Committee today.

One good thing: the public budget engagement will give residents a chance to weigh in again AFTER the draft budget is done. Big cheer!

Cheered on by what I thought might be a trend to greater transparency:

1.I asked for the total debt and borrowing as at today. After I asked the second time, our Director of Finance said he "would try to get them to me by email in a week 🤔

  1. Tim Bennett (HUGE thanks!!l) seconded AND VOTED for my motion to refer to Council a request to get a one-pager with KPIs explaining each budget item included in the Budget consultation and Council Budget process. It was defeated with Cori Ramsay and Ron Polillo voting against. 🤕

  2. I asked for a ranked list with costs of most urgent capital projects like sewer, watermains, lift stations, bridges, etc. This was denied as not needed because they have those items listed in the budget and they keep a reserve for emergencies. That wasn't quite what I asked for, but I will double-check the budget and write a NOM if needed.🧐

It’s 3am and the joint pain won’t let me sleep..

It’s after 3 AM and I haven’t slept at all tonight because my joints hurt too much. I’m exhausted, frustrated, and honestly at the point where I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore. The frustrating part is that because RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) or what the doctor suspects I have hasn’t shown up in my bloodwork.

For context I’ve been dealing with joint pain, stiffness, swelling and flares for a long time and new symptoms of weird nerve pain, numbness, muscle weakness and severe headaches. I spoke with my doctor recently and he is considering Lupus and even Multiple Sclerosis, but no official diagnosis yet 😩

Some days are more manageable than others, but during a flare I’m in pain for the majority of the day, and nights like tonight I can’t even sleep through it.

I feel like I’m stuck. I’ve been told essentially that the tests don’t support rheumatoid arthritis, despite continuing to have symptoms. I previously saw a rheumatologist in the Lower Mainland, but I really want another opinion from someone willing to investigate the possibility of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune disease rather than stopping at negative bloodwork. Are there any Rheumatologists here in town? I know we are pretty short on specialists.

And in the meantime…how do you actually live like this? What helped you sleep? What helped the pain enough to function? Because this is hell sometimes..

Any advice is appreciated 😔

Would y’all keep a horse in your backyard?

Hello horse/farm people of Prince George, I have an issue. I’m looking for universities as one does and my top pick is UNBC however being a resident of the lower mainland it is quite a distance. In my ideal world I would just go to UNBC and board my horse in a nearby stable and live on campus or something like that but that is not realistic and too expensive. Now a sain person would say “oh I shouldn’t hold myself back because of this horse- I guess he won’t come with me” that is not who I am. My horse is my favourite thing in the entire world and living without him isn’t happening for me. Now a quick google search will tell me about all the bigger barns in the area who are throwing themselves online but that’s not what I’m looking for-I need something cheap. Like the kind of thing where you ask a random stranger with lots of land if you could keep your horse there for cheap. I don’t need any real facilities or anything, just a place for the horse to stay and so kind of bin for storage, I’ll be in school anyways so it’s not like I’ll have much time to do fancy stuff. It’ll just be me and trail rides against the world. Now since I’m not familiar with the area- like I’ve never been there- I have no idea where to look or who to ask. So I figured I’d ask someone who’s familiar with the area, hence why I posted this. Honestly any kind of advice or insight would be awesome, stuff regarding horse and barns especially closer to UNBC or anything regarding work in that area to. I’m probably going to be at school part time so I can work and if I’m lucky I can score some kind of job with housing for me and my horse. Idek 😭 anything helps- I’m getting really desperate.

Pair of popular city councillors challenging 1st-term mayor for top job in Prince George election race | CBC News

The race for mayor of Prince George is heating up, as incumbent Simon Yu confirms he intends to run again despite two of the city's most popular sitting councillors also gunning for the position.
Yu will face Garth Frizzell, who is finishing his fifth term in council since first being elected in 2008, and Kyle Sampson, who was elected in 2018 and again in 2022. Also in the race is Roy Stewart, a local lawyer who finished third in the mayor's race when Yu was elected in 2022.
It is unusual for sitting councillors to challenge incumbent mayors for the top job in Prince George politics, which doesn't have a party system. Instead, the northern B.C. city of approximately 90,000 people votes in an at-large system, with every voter allowed to vote for one mayor and up to eight councillors who represent the city as a whole, resulting in a relatively cooperative environment.

Moving from Vancouver to PG

Planning on permanently moving to PG, been there many times, have family there, wondering how the job market is? And how the rental market is?

Famous Players Prince George never got the official Spider-Man posters, so a theatre employee drew his own. It is amazing

This is all over Facebook but I haven't seen it here yet. Absolutely fantastic Spooderman reference

Maybe a bit of a long shot

One of my family members works for CN and was forced to call in an emergency (his first in working there for 13 years) because of some lady that was filming the trains with her iPad and was literal feet away from the tracks. They have no idea where she went after the emergency and were trying to find her. Does anybody know if there’s any train spotting PG groups on any app or social media that she could’ve posted on so that we can maybe get a lead? Thanks.

EDIT: The incident occurred at 9:30 PM last night (August 14th) near Wilson Park

Where to go to have a fire?

My kids are asking to go camping, but after talking to them about it I realized they don't want to go camping, they just want a campfire.

Where could we go nearby where we could have a campfire in a firepit? Preferably close by. Also I've seen firewood at some gas stations before but I can't think of one off the top of my head, any suggestions there so I don't have to run all over town?

Feds putting American booze back on the shelf, do we have any local stores that won’t be carrying American alcohol products, I’d prefer to vote with my wallet.

So it sounds more and more like Carney will lift prohibition on American alcohol products in the coming days. Now I prefer to vote with my wallet, do we have any local retailers who WILL NOT STOCK American booze even after the ban is lifted? I don’t want to shop somewhere that will go right back to selling American garbage and feeding their economy while they work to hurt ours.

If you own or operate a liquor store in PG will you be bringing back American products? Are you willing to commit to NOT doing so in order to win my, and I’m sure others, business who aren’t satisfied with the way Carney has folded on everything.
