New to the prog metal scene

Since a kid (now 29), I’ve always loved/played rock n roll and heavy metal music but I’ve recently discovered a passion for the progressive genre. I’m particularly fascinated by bands such as Animals as Leaders, Tool, Haken and Camille Bigeault and was looking for other band recommendations of a similar vibe please

New Drew Goddard interview Sixty Scales and the Truth

Hi all,

For who's insterested: I just (a few minutes ago) uploaded a recent interview I did with Drew Goddard, just prior to his show with Karnivool in 013, Tilburg in The Netherlands. It was a really open conversation and he shed some light on one of the real reasons behind the long process of making In Verses. He said he hadn't shared that before. Hope you enjoy the chat and feel free to ask questions about the conversation if you have any.
Check the interview here:

Entropist - “Creation” Need prog metal people smarter than me to tell me if this is actually good or not

Found this on my Release Radar and fingered I’d ask people who know prog metal better than I do what they think.

Weirdly enough, I actually met one of the guys from the band (pretty sure the bassist?) on a cruise ship like a year and a half ago. Subscribed to support them and then completely forgot about them until this popped up.

Entropist - “Creation” https://youtu.be/YZ9DAdwSXto

It only has a few hundred listens on Spotify, which honestly surprised me because the production is legitimately pretty damn good. Not saying it’s some genre-defining masterpiece or anything, but it feels way more polished than I expected from a band this small.

Also this is apparently the only song on their Spotify right now, so I’m guessing they wiped older material at some point.

For context, I’m a big Tool, Protest the Hero, and BTBAM guy, but I don’t really know enough about prog metal technically to critique stuff beyond “this sounds sick” or “this feels kinda generic.”

What I liked most was the atmosphere and texture. It’s got a modern cinematic/prog-industrial thing going on, but it still feels intentional instead of just being technical for the hell of it.

I mostly lurk here, honestly. I like reading the discussions people have about albums and songs because there are a lot of people here who clearly know this genre way better than I do. So I’d genuinely be interested to hear what you guys think about it, good or bad.

Looking for song or album recommendations of lesser-known bands that feel special or novel to you

I've already listened to a fair share of the bigger progmetal bands and now I am searching for something new to listen to. I at least know some of the recommendations from the website Progressive Subway, but they dont do much for me most of the time. Maybe I listened to the wrong stuff.

So now I am asking you: I am looking for albums that you personally think do something unique or genuinely different from other bands. I dont really want the typical Haken or TesseracT copycats (Nospun, Ihlo...), because those usually just make me want to go back and listen to the originals instead.

The bands I like the most are:

BTBAM
Opeth
The Ocean
Karnivool
Haken
TesseracT
Gojira
The Callous Daoboys
Vildhjarta
Car Bomb
Alcest
King Gizzard & TLW

I'm excited to listen to your recommendations

Any British prog metal bands?

I'm sure there are a lot that have just flown under the radar for me, but I am wondering if there are any bands worth checking out. I have been a huge fan of prog metal in Canada, United States, France, and Sweden, and am looking

to expand my interests into other areas.

While I feel like the UK would have the most unknown prog bands for me, I am also interested in any band from the entire world from Japan to Brazil, and also to get a discussion going for others who are willing to expand their interests in this subgenre of metal.

We need AI labels on Spotify and Apple Music

Since the start of 2026, the music world has changed
AI Music has now made up at least 28% up to 40% of daily uploads onto these platforms, and a decent chunk belongs to people pushing out AI music solely for profit over any form of creativity

With the addition of Spotify "carefully" labeling real musicians who do not use AI Generation, their requirements have left many musicians who don’t use any AI Generation and just below this requirement in the dust.

I feel that two additions to both of these platforms will let users / listeners who use these music platforms daily be able to fully understand in a complete transparent way on WHO they are listening to and WHAT they are listening to.

If there is enough evidence to show that the artist on this platform is AI Generated and not a real-life musician, it should have an "May Contain AI Generation" label on the artist profile itself, similar to how Spotify now has "Verified By Spotify" so the listener understands that the person behind the songs they are listening to with full transparency.
If there is enough evidence to show that the song on this platform is AI Generated, it should be listed next to the artist name on these platforms with "May Contain AI Generation", so if a listener finds the song on a "Mix" or a "Radio" they are listening to, they are able to view that the song could have AI Generation involved with it.
Considering that both of these platforms have allowed AI Generated Music to be put on the platform and have started to implement a crude method to verify musicians who don’t use AI at all, we need to at least have full transparency that the track was either made by a real human or made by an AI or an Hybrid AI/Human track

finally sat down and listened to a bunch of Opeth this morning... i get it now

I first heard Opeth around 10 years ago, before I had really gotten into prog. I thought they were weird and just kinda wrote them off as not really my thing.

Fast forward to this morning after a decade of slowly immersing into prog, I was jamming to some Indukti and had a random thought "you know, this is probably significantly weirder then Opeth. I should try them out again"

This is now one of my favorite bands. I simply didn't have the ears to appreciate them before. Progressive music is like the gift that keeps on giving

In contract by Caligula's Horse is amazing

I love listening to the whole thing in full. Idk but every song brings so many emotions inside me (specially the song Graves). Songwriting is peak, and lyrical themes feel well structured and interesting. Any other fans of this classic?

Looking for New Prog BluRays/DVDs

Hello everyone!

I'm a big prog and prog/power enthusiast with an extensive concert BluRay/DVD collection. I regularly host watch parties for my friends where we get pizza and drink while watching something from my collection. I'm always interested in expanding my taste and collection, so I'm looking for recommendations!

While I'm primarily interested in prog, if you have any other metal recs you want to shout out, please do! My whole friend group is big on virtuosic guitarists and keyboardists, so that's a bonus.

A non-exhaustive list of things I already own: anything Dream Theater (official and semi-official), anything Galneryus, Angra, Firewind, Andromeda, Labyrinth, DGM, Nevermore, Pagan's Mind, Rush, Fate's Warning, Blind Guardian, Opeth, X Japan.

TL;DR: Physical media concert recs please!

Recommend me some bands / albums based off of my favorites

I am looking for some new music to dive into, and I'm not as diligent at searching for new music as I used to be. Some of my favourite albums are albums that have a lot of "personality". I don't really know how else to describe it.

Could you please help me out with some album recommendations based off of my favourites:

- Protest the Hero: Fortress, Palimpsest
- BTBAM - Parallax 1+2, The Blue Nowhere, Great Misdirect, Colors
- Tesseract - War of Being, Altered State
- Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West
- The Contortionist - Language
- Last Chance to Reason - Level 2, Level 3
- Haken - Visions, The Mountain, Fauna
- Johnny Booth - Firsthand Accounts
- Parkway Drive - Horizons, Deep Blue
- Gojira - Magma, From Mars to Sirius
- Periphery - IV, V, A Pale White Dot
- Tool - Lateralus, Aenima, 10000 Days
- Rishloo - Feathergun, Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth
- Breakdown of Sanity - Mirrors
- August Burns Red - Constellations, Leveler

I know a lot of prog listeners also appreciate other genres so here's a list of some of my favorites outside of metal if you've got any good recommendations:

- Half Moon Run - Dark Eyes, Salt
- Anderson .Paak - Malibu, Ventura
- Alt J - This Awesome Wave
- Tame Impala - Currents
- Hiromi, The Trio Project - Move, Endeavour
- Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Animals, Dark Side of the Moon
- Pretty Lights - A Color Map of the Sun, Filling Up The City Skies
- Cake - Comfort Eagle, Fashion Nugget
- Kanye West (I'll admit it) - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, College Dropout, Late Registration
- Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
- Leon Bridges - Good Thing, Leon, Gold Diggers Sound

Thank you in advance!
